was there ever a cancelled video game that you were excited for coming out only to be disappointed that its not? What was it?
What cancelled game were you waiting for?
Whore of the Orient and Agent come to mind immediately. Dirty Harry and Star Wars 1313, too.
Huxley: The Dystopia, but what i wanted out of that, I'm getting (almost a decade later) from Destiny.
Full Throttle 2, though when they announced it was going to be a motorcycle-combat game, I lost all hope. Oh, and Telltale's King's Quest.
The Last Guardian
I came into this thread fully knowing the chances of someone twisting the knife in my heart.
God damn it...

I'm with you. Shadow of the Colossus is my favourite game ever and I was blown away when I first saw the TGS trailer for TLG.
It is most likely dead though and I was looking forward to it immensely so it fits the parameters of this thread.
I don't care how middling the quality level was on the project, I would've played Starcraft Ghost or Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans, just to see those universes from a very different perspective. Though now WoW has turned Warcraft lore into Family-Guy-levels of dumb pop culture references, and Starcraft is dumb now because the idiots at Blizzard think I give a shit about the personal story of Raynor and Kerrigan as opposed to the giant fucking space conflict that is going on (granted, I liked how Kerrigan and Raynor played off of each other in the first game, but it was just flirting then Kerrigan dies and Raynor feels bad about it; they've retconned it to the point that they were like the love of each others' lives).
@humanity: Yeeeeeeep.
I was also really interested in seeing how that Obsidian Alien RPG would of turned out.
I was also interested in an open world zombie survival horror game (that's a mouthful) that was revealed at E3 2004 and cancelled two months later called Dead Rush
Back at that time, open world zombie games were not a thing at all and was super excited for it.
Is Prey 2 actually totally cancelled? I know the studio shut down, but I thought their was still murmurs...

The studio didn't shut down, they took over making a game called Minimum which a previous studio was working on (which is ironic)

Even if it does resurface it won't be the same Prey 2 we saw gameplay of at E3 2011.
The Outsider seemed like a great idea
... according to Wikipedia the development is 'ceased' and not cancelled.... but I'm fairly sure it's dead.
So glad I see Prey 2 plastered all over this thread. PREY 2.
That game seemed like it had so much promise, and am still a big fan of the original. It made an FPS really interesting for once.
I remember being really disappointed when BC was cancelled, and also that original Xbox MMO that I can't remember the name of right now. Also, I just learned Whore of The Orient is cancelled from this thread, so I'm super bummed about that.
I read about this around the time the original Gears of War came out, so cover based shooting mechanics fatigue hadn't set in for me yet. This game looked so cool with an original setting.
Also, I can not forget the FPS Avengers game
Because THQ was going belly up, this was one game they cancelled to try and save the company. Ironically, if the game had come out when The Avengers hit theaters, they would've made a whopping off it. This is probably the biggest one for me. If I won the lotto, I would try to resurrect this game.
Eight Days
I came to say this and Project LMNO.
Hey, did NiOH ever come out? I remember it was announced during the PS2 era and I heard talk that it still exists. I didn't have any interest in it, but it is a game that has been dark for a while, possibly longer than some people reading this have been in gaming or on the internet.
- Shattered Steel 2 (they advertised it in the end credits of the original Shattered Steel, and that was Bioware's best game)
- X-COM: Genesis
- X-COM: Alliance
- Command & Conquer (2013)
- Prey 2
- Stargate Worlds
- DeathDrome II
- Sin Episodes S1E2
- End of Nations
- Outcast II
- Descent 4
- Urban Decay

How have I never seen this? A score based Marvel first person brawler looks awesome. Now I want it and know that I will never play it.
Oh man I second this one, I remember playing the beta for it back when it was still an MMOish RTS. I had way more fun with that game than I ever expected to.
Then the original developer left and they tried to make it into a MOBA but then just killed it.
Saboteur. No one remembers it. But hot damn did I eagerly await it. The character designs were so cool. He had a tank top, katana AND wolf!
@connerthekewlkid: yeah, Petroglyph seems to have had a lot of trouble recently, they've announced like 5 games in recent years that have been cancelled (most of them MOBA's, so they didn't interest me). Hoping that their current project Grey Goo gets finished at least.
@vierastalo: oh right, I don't remember if I thought that game looked all that promising, but I did (and still do) love Pumpkin's Warzone 2100, so I certainly hoped for it.
Shenmue 3, 4 etc...
And the other two parts of the Two Human "trilogy." I'm not kidding. They built a cool cyber viking world and the story was finally starting to go places at the end of the first game.
KotOR 3 which was apparently pretty well planned out by Obisidian, but LucasArts management never greenlit it because they were too busy being insane.
@fisk0: Yeah its pretty sad to think that one of the most highly regarded RTS developers can barely find work anymore.
Sorry if it's been said already, but Zero Escape 3.
Considering that Virtue's Last Reward ends with a HUGE cliffhanger, it breaks my heart to see all these talks about the 3rd game not coming out. I'm not actually sure if it's confirmed to be canceled, and my info may be old, but man it's looking grim.
Agent
TimeSplitters 4
Aliens RPG (The Obsidian One)
Prey 2 (assuming it's cancelled)
Untitled Raven Software James Bond Game (love anything those guys do)
Shangheist (The Black Tusk game, I wanted to see more)
This is Vegas
Bulletstorm 2 (Technically never announced but it's been acknowledged several times)
Dead Rush (That open world zombie game that Activision were publishing in the PS2 era, basically Dead Rising 3 has done that now)
That's all I can think of for now!
