What do you think your Game of the Year will be?
So far God of War III, but it will be Starcraft II, I assure you. I currently like the beta more than I like 95% of games I play.
For me, 2010 has been a pretty huge gaming year already. I don't know about editors' picks, but here are a few games I've been playing lately that I absolutely love and would be in contention for my personal favourite game of the year.
Bayonetta
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver
Monster Hunter Tri
And here are some upcoming/recent releases I'm anticipating adoring and I hope to add to the list above:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I
The Last Story
Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned
GOTY's already?
Well.. hmm.. I would say:
(in no order)
- GOD3
- SSF4
- SC2
- LPB2 (If it comes out this year)
- ME2
- RDR
- SMT: Strange Journey
- Mario Galaxy 1.5 (C'mon, its more the same, which isn't a bad thing, cause it looks awesome)
Thats about it. Haha, too hard to name one XD. I imagine something from this list.
" Metro 2033; it had one of the most compelling atmospheres of any game I've ever played, and I adored the Russian VO (with subtitles). The gunplay wasn't great, but the story/atmosphere more than made it up to me. "if this had come out in 2009 it would have been near the top of my list, but... :( I do agree that the story/atmosphere is one of the greatest, but a GOTY isn't made up of that alone.
No idea. I really liked Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 was okay, but those were really the only two high profile games I've played in quite some time. Red Dead Redemption looks amazing as well, and I will pick that up soon. I might get around to Mario Galaxy 2, and there are many other games coming out this year.
Basically, I have no idea. The only game I'd automatically give my GOTY is Diablo III, and, well, that isn't coming out this year.
Also, UFC Undisputed 2010 doesn't look bad at all, and I think Backbreaker will be one of my sleeper hits this year, along with a slew of other sports games, too many to list. Possible GOTYs? Probably not, but you never know.
Talking about game of the year right now seems a bit early, but so far I'm really enjoying Red Dead Redemption. I guess Mass Effect 2 would be close behind. Other than that, the only games that have taken up my time have been Assassin's Creed 2 and Dragon Age, both of which came out last year. If I had to choose beetween RDR and ME2, I guess my choice would probably depend on my mood. But, tthen, it's only May. The year's not even half done yet.

"I don't own a wii, and I'm not the biggest Mario fan to begin with, so Galaxy 2 probably won't make it on my list."
Believe me, you don't need to be a fan of Mario to like Super Mario Galaxy. Being a fan of fun is more than enough :P
Oh no doubt! I loved the first one, I just never get much oppurtunity to play those games because I don't have a wii. That's the main reason it won't be on my list.
" @jukezypoo said:Yeah, and that's why for overall GOTY it wouldn't be my pick. But for my GOTY (as indicated in the title), that would be my pick, because I haven't had a better experience, and I find it doubtful that I will for the rest of the year." Metro 2033; it had one of the most compelling atmospheres of any game I've ever played, and I adored the Russian VO (with subtitles). The gunplay wasn't great, but the story/atmosphere more than made it up to me. Super Street Fighter IV, Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Mass Effect 2 are all in the running. Possibly 3D Dot Game Heroes, Alan Wake, Vanquish, and a bunch of other games I haven't played or haven't come out yet sound like top 10 list competitors at least.
" @Icemael: On the page listing for Arkham Asylum 2 on Giant Bomb it says Sept. 21, 2010? "The GiantBomb page is wrong.
Red Dead redemption, although super mario galaxy2 has been getting a lot of 10s... But I enjoyed RDR more. there are still too many possibilites though, the last gaurdian, fallout new vegas, the new deus ex, Doom 4, postal 3, sin and punishment 2, metroid, timesplitters 4, Twisted metal, kingdom hearts PSP, valkiria chronicles 2, god eater, MGS,moster hunter freedom 3, LBP2(my expected GOTY) any last minute announcements(zelda?) or a game that works well unexpectedly. And that's only the biggest and most mainstream possibilities
For this year I've played
Mass Effect 2
Mount and Blade Warband
Tropico 3
And I WILL play the hell out of Civ V when it breaks.
So far Mass Effect 2 is my favorite.
Mass Effect 2
I'd like to say Alan Wake but i don't think I'll still enjoy it the same way years from now. I know I will feel that way for ME2.
ME2 was pretty good. I still havent played a bunch of already released games like Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII. My game of 2008 was Dead Space, so I think my game of this year might be Dead Space 2. If not, Halo Reach will definitely be up there along with another multiplayer heavy game you may have herd of called, Star Craft II. Last but not least though, we cant forget Portal 2.
Edit: I have yet to crack open my Red Dead, I hear that games alright.
I don't have anything against Super Mario Galaxy 2, but i hope it won't be it, as it is the most gamey of games, with awesome gameplay, still with a paper thin story, and recycled characters. I don't won't to see games move in that direction.
I hope it will be either Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake or Bayonetta.
