I didn't recognize a single name from this thread.
I'm not gonna pretend like I've known developers for decades, so I really don't have an answer. Valve, Rockstar and DICE are still alive and kicking, so I'm satisfied.
Looking Glass. The Thief games are veritable masterpieces of level-design and atmospheric implementation. Jeez, Thief: Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age are two of the most memorable video games on the PC.

Yes - Free Radical. I'm playing Timesplitters Future Perfect right now and it's so good. You wait before killing people in case they have something funny to say. Any my friend married one of the animators and has his face on one of the pedestrians in the Blade Runner level of 2, so I'm a bit biased.
