Hey guys. I'm soon about to purchase a 360 after all these years since its release. The game that finally convinced me to do it? FEZ.

I'm a sucker for games that involve some light puzzles, exploration and ambient environments. The last real one I played was on the PC called Knytt Stories. That is probably the last game I played that had a very similar vibe to FEZ and is the kind of game that I really would love to play more of. They seem to be real rare these days so that's a bit of a bummer. So thanks to this one game, I'm buying a console and will have no idea what to get for it besides some really awesome XBLA titles that I've always wanted like Space Invaders Infinity Gene and Pacman CE DX.

So now that you all know what game did me in in wanting and eventually owning an Xbox 360, I ask of you all - which game made you buy a console it was released for (assuming it was a game that convinced you)? I also open this question to the other two main platforms this generation, including hand-helds if you guys want to broaden this thread out.

Finally as a side question, anyone know of any similar games to FEZ and/or Knytt Stories that people can recommend me?

Project Gotham Racing 3 made me buy a 360 at launch.

Resistance: Fall of Man made me buy a PS3 at launch.

Super Mario Galaxy made me buy a Wii in '07.

I bought the Vita and 3DS because I like handhelds. None of the games have really captured my interest, though. Well, that Mario 3D Land was pretty alright.

Buying a console solely for an unproven indie puzzle platformer that could turn out to be terrible, might be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I got a 360 for Halo, Gears, Dead Rising, and because hey, next-gen.

Got a Wii first because my wife thought she might like it. I thought the virtual console would be cool.

I got a 360 once the price dropped. It was still too expensive considering I paid another $90 the next day the WiFi adapter.

I got my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player; later I discovered Sony had some good games too. I would have never got it if the 360 played Blu-Rays (or even had an external drive.)

MGS4 and Halo 3, but i felt guilty buying another console and mass effect was the game that validated my purchasing decision.

I do not disagree at all good sir. It is definitely a wild leap of faith to be sure. Thank god there are other games out there that will likely justify my purchase properly later.

Well Halo 3 made me buy an Xbox, Infamous 2 made me buy a PS3, and Xenoblade may make me buy a Wii if I don't finish it by the time I lose access to the console

I like your avatar..

On topic, I don't remember.

Even if peach man over there is correct, there are still some great Xbox 360 titles out and coming out to justify the purchase.

My usual reasoning for buying any piece of electronics goes like this;

Do I have one?

Yes? - Don't buy another one (until there's a slight refresh or redesign)

No? - Buy one.

360: Launch. PGR3 made it worth it. Had 10 360's die on me from 2006-2010, I no longer play 360.

PS3: Launch. Had nothing to play for along time, only enjoyed Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain. Barely played the console, 60gb launch still working perfect. Gave ps3 to my mother, she uses it for movies.

Wii: Could borrow one any time I want, got offered a wii for free, still don't want to play anything on it.

3DS: Launch. Hope more shit comes out for it.

Never buying consoles at launch again. Probably won't buy any consoles in the future, I will stick with pc gaming.

I bought my PS3 with no game in mind. I just knew it was my last chance to get a 60GB model as they were clearing stock to introduce the new 80GB model that only had software emulation. The first game I played on it was a PS2 game.

I have yet to find a reason to buy a 360. I had considered it for Deadly Premonition, Alan Wake, Shadow Complex and Fez. With DP getting a director's cut on PS3, Alan Wake on PC and the homophobic shit with Shadow Complex there still isn't a reason for me to get one.

Well... Uh... ._.

I got both my PS3 and Wii in 2008. The game I got my PS3 for was... Ah... >_>

Haze. <_<

..... >_>

My first Wii purchase was much more reasonable, as I got it purely for Super Smash Bros Brawl. :P

Wanted a blu-ray player as well. That investment as turned out to be somewhat useless, but it tipped me to the PS3 at the time.

Gears of War on 360 - got the 360 at launch though with Perfect Dark Zero (Steelcase edition - why oh why), Kameo and Project Gotham 3.

I got PS3 about a year or two after launch with MGS4. Then played Uncharted and fell in love.

I was happy with just playing stuff on my PC (which was ageing at that point) but then my brother moved in with me and he had a 360 and a small-ish HDTV. I got Oblivion for it and loved it straight away. I moved to Australia a few months later and shipped my PC over but it arrived broken. Lacking the funds for a new one, I split the cost of a 360 with my fiancée and that was me in.

360 because it was a bargain. PS3 for MGS 4, of course. And the Wii for the, at one point expected, release of Earthbound... And we all know how that went...

Wii- Wii Sports and Rock Band- great party games for a while. Now it collects dust.

PS3- Not really a game, but the system and network itself. I did not have a blu-ray player, and then free online play? That sold me. After I played MLB The Show and God of War III, then I really started to play games on that thing. The Network hacking sucked, but not as bad as the......

X-Box 360- I got before the PS3, but I HATED it. Why? Red-ring of death. I played Elder Scrolls and Gears of War mainly on it, and then it just blew up. The customer service at Microsoft was awful (this is before PR admitted to the Red Ring of Death disease), and they wanted me to pay ALOT for having them fix a 6 month old system. Nope. See you later Microsoft.

360 - Because of Bioshock and Assassin's Creed.

PS3 - Because it about time to.

Wii - Because my wife wanted one.

PC - Because I got sick of the restriction consoles still put on games.

Nothing specific made me buy a 360 since I got mine near launch. I bought COD2 and Perfect Dark Zero back then. I still have my COD copy, but sold PDZ.

Resistance Fall of Man is the reason I picked up a PS3 originally, well that and the fact that the console had hardware-enabled backwards compatibility. Sadly that unit died this past Christmas and I am now using a Slim.

I don't own a Wii, but I do have a DS and Dragon Quest V is the reason I bought one of those. Still my favorite DS title.

It was the same game for both Ps3 and 360. The game was the indie darling "If I want to play new games, I need the new consoles" release. Available now on XBLA and PSN.

Wii = Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 ... and the promise of Red Steel (ironically, I never bought that game^^)

PS3 = Dead Space, Assassin's Creed, MGS4, BioShock port (I was gonna buy a 360 first because of BioShock but when they came out with the port in late '08, the deal was sealed) AND the possibilities of backwards compatibility since I had never owned a PS1/2

360 = Alan Wake, Mass Effect (for future save importing when ME2 came out), Banjo Kazooie: N&B (plus all those XBLA exclusives I had missed)

PC = Sim City 3000, The Settlers 2, StarCraft, WarCraft II. (strategy games were such a foreign but intriguing thing to a kid who was only used to action RPGs and colorful platformers)

Definitely didn't get these systems just for these games, but these games pushed me over the edge:

PS3: Grand Theft Auto IV

360: Pac-Man: Championship Edition, Shadow Complex

Wii: Don't have one yet. I'm still probably going to get one once I put a dent in my damn backlog of games. But once that happens, I'll be comfortable adding The Last Story to that backlog.

PC: Flight Simulator X. This one's weird because I've always had a PC of some sort. But the machine that's currently under my desk was built just after I bought a HOTAS joystick/throttle, and the first game I loaded up on this shiny new PC was FSX.

PS3 because of the promise that Sucker Punch, Insomniac and Naughty Dog would be releasing their games on the console. Mass Effect nearly made me buy a 360 but then ME2 came to PS3 so I never got one and no single 360 exclusive makes me want to buy the hardware now.

I bought a 360 when the redesign came out, mainly for Alan Wake. My old GCN and Xbox were getting real long in the tooth at that point. I'll probably wait just as long to get a next-gen console as well!

I had an Xbox and Xbox Live when Halo 2 came out. I played it all the time. They announced the Xbox 360 six months later and it released only a year after Halo 2, I was in because of all the cool stuff they were going to do with it, Xbox Live. Not really in it for any game, went and got NBA 2k6, Perfect Dark (meh), Ghost Recon and Oblivion. Awesome time to get into the 360.

The PS3, wanted one but no games called out to me. But Killzone 2 changed that. Big mistake. That game was a horrible experience. It seemed like it couldn't decided if it wanted to be an old school shooter, with bosses and stuff. I mean, Radec was freaking invincible, yet they wanted to make the gun weight stuff more realistic. It might have been but it wasn't fun. Then Rico, fuck him. I got rid of the game and got Uncharted 2 later that year.

Wii, Wii Sports of course. Haha, I mean, I love Mario and Zelda and all that but the experience of bowling and golf was enough for me.

For 360 it was Perfect Dark Zero.

Got the Wii just because it was a new system, no games had me interested in it.

For PS3 it was Resistance: Fall of Man.

I bought the Wii on launch day due to me being Nintendo fan, the motion control excitement, and Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I got a 360 in summer of 2007 not because of any specific game, but because a friend was selling a refurbished 360 so it was an extremely affordable way to get into HD gaming. At the time, the game I looked forward to playing the most was Dead Rising.

The PS3 I picked up in winter of '08 because Walmart had a deal where they threw in a hundred dollar gift card. I wanted a Blu-Ray player for my new HDTV and I knew eventually I'd want to play Sony's exclusives.
