What games or genres do you guys appreciate, and maybe even enjoy, but don't throw into your regular game-playing time? I love the Street Fighter characters and franchise, I love the Starcraft franchise, and I can understand why something like World of Warcraft can be fun. However, I don't play these games regularly or even own them. So, what games do you guys: A) wish you could get good at
B) understand why they can be fun but just can't get into the mindset for it
C) enjoy the fiction or characters but not the game
And etc.
I've already talked about the games that I "appreciate from afar" in the above paragraph, here are some genres that I "appreciate from afar".
Sports games
Most JRPGs
Racing
Simulations
So have at it.
What genres do you appreciate from afar?
" I like Fighting games; I want to be good at them. But I can't, so I don't play them. "/\ That.
I appreciate the story behind Tekken from afar.
Fighting games in general I guess. I play them occasionally but I've never had the patience to actually get good at any of them.
Fighting games like MK/SF/SC always look good and are fun to play, but I can't get into it, so I spectate most of the times, also love all the lore surrounding it.
And RTS games, I love the concept of it all, but I can't play one at all.
I tend to build and make stuff pretty, not rush out units and zerg :P
SHUMPS. I usually have trouble getting through the first level in these games, but when I see some players "in the zone" I am flabbergasted by their skill level.
Fighting games. I like them, but I suck at them. I do play them, but rarely for long periods of time due to frustration.
fighting games...... blaz blue is just amazing but i just cant be good at them..... at all.
also sports games but that usually ends up you need to get used to the timing.
Turn-based strategy and simulation games whether it be a shooter, racing, flight, trains, space combat whatever. Far too technical for my brain to understand or tolerate. Any 4X strategy game or Civilzation for example hurt my brainz. JRPG's because I know there are plenty of good ones out there but I cannot get past the anime influence. I can't get into MMO's because of the time, grinding tendencies, obligation to be within the game for other people, and well their jank. Besides paying for a subscription to play a game is not my thing either.
Most of what other people have said are within my wheelhouse with a few exceptions that are out of my league like Street Fighter and Starcraft.
Definitely RTS's. I like the starcraft lore and gameplay. I looooove the command and conquer (maybe not 4) and red alert games, but I am pretty much crap at them all.
RTSes. Grrr, we both know that there's something there, but we've never gotten off on the right foot. Also, adventure/survival horror games.
Halo. It's a franchise I can see why people enjoy, but I'm just not one of those people. In my eyes, it's average online shooter with a poor ranking system. But I know a lot of people disagree with that view. I enjoy watching people play Halo, but I'm just not someone who'd enjoy it.
" RTS's, im just awful at them, but i really like them "Amen to this. Its the "smart" mans game imo. I wish I could be good at them but im garbage. ah well
Fighting games
Whenever I'm hanging out with certain friends we play a Street Fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 2, Tekken or some other fighting game
I can't like it unless I'm somewhat good at it
Soul Calibur 2 was fun, and I actually got decent at it... then Soul Calibur 3 and 4 came out and now I cant play them worth shit
I still say we should play Soul Calibur 2 whenever they pull out fighting games though
I'm the kid who gets a PS2 the Christmas the PS3 came out
I really want to get into fighting games (especially Street Fighter series) and also MMO's with even maybe WoW to see how it's so good, but I just do not have anytime to put in that kind of commitment.
RTS/4X games I always get interested when I hear about a new one, but I know I'll never be able to compete online and many of them have all but abandoned a single-player campaign. When I do play them, I usually play on easy or with cheats. I'm probably picking up Starcraft 2 though.
Then there are genres that I only need to own one game for, just in case I get that particular itch. Right now ModNation Racers is my racing game, Sins of a Solar Empire is my strategy game, and I think the new Mortal Combat might be my fighting game when it comes out.
I guess I'll say RTS as well. I play and enjoy them quite a bit, just not usually online as I frequently get my ass kicked.
I've learned that people just want to get the match over as quickly as possible. I'm all about building up my base/city, researching technologies, strategy, etc. but everyone else is all about RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH.
I'm decent at most of the Mortal Kombat games, but besides MK, fighting games aren't really my thing. I don't have the patience to learn all the combos and whatnot for fighting games. I'm already familiar with a lot of the special moves, combos, and fatalities for MK, and that's why I like it. But I don't see myself ever doing the same for another fighting game. Too much work.
Besides fighting games, I enjoy games. Besides RTS's. I just hate them.
RPGs and RTSs
two genres i long to play and enjoy, but cant seem to pull it off.. it saddens me deeply.
I love RTS games, love building up, making, and ordering the units around. I am terrible when up against the bots though, so i don't play them that often.
Homeworld in particular is one i enjoy greatly however the Strategy part is nonexistent when i play any games of that genre :(
RTS games for sure. I love star craft and have thoroughly enjoyed it, but most of the other RTS options out there just kind of freak me out. I'm just not fast enough to play competitively, and the single player campaign gets way too hard since I just turtle my way through it all.
I am still looking forward to giving SC2 a go however!
