What is the latest OLD GAME you've discovered
New games are cool, but old games bring back good memories.
Some old games though, are as fun as when they came out.
Thing is, you may not have played it back then, so if your tolerant of old graphics, non HD gaming and jumping through hoops to make and old game work on a new system, you may just discover a new adition to your favorite games or at least to your top 10 or 20.
This isnt the oldest game but the one I just started playing is FLATOUT 2. Came out in 06. Never even heard of it untill I got it afew months ago.
Playing it on my pc. Has a few bugs but for the most part it works great. Its fun, fast paced, and great for LAN.
Even though I still play games like Uncharted 2, Borderlands, or Torchlight, FLATOUT 2 reminds me of the firs time I played Burnout and stayed glued to that game for a long while.
Post old games that you just found out about and think are good. It can be anything from NES to even 360 launch titles. Even old atari games. Others should know of those games you think stand the test of time.
Thanks to GOG.com, my list is pretty big.
Currently, the most notable are Gothic, which is huge and a bit overwhelming...
and Sanitarium, which I plan on playing once I'm done with a few other games.
I picked up Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure a couple of months ago. I have no idea how I was able to play that game when I was a kid, the level design is super confusing. It holds many memories for me though and is still fun to play.
There are no old games that I have just found recently but I bought the Deus Ex Pack on steam during the Christmas Sale and The first is still as great as when I played it a few years ago.

I just started playing gothic 2. I want to like it, but still havent decided if I do.

LOL
i began playing kingdom hearts during the summer. i wanted to see why people liked that game in the first place and i gave it a shot. havent touched it for months...
Just bought The Temple of Elemental Evil. I had played all the other DnD RPGs but for some reason I never got to try this game. The first part of the game is not very good (way too many fetch quest) but once you get past that the game is great with one of the best combat systems I have seen in a CRPG.
Fallout New Vegas! Love that game! Just found it, and I know its really old. But still you guys should totally check it out!
Just got my first companion and am finding all sorts of Easter eggs.
Gears of War 2 is another old but still good game.
Probably the Secret of Monkey Island, which I got into a few years back and still consider it one of my favourite games ever made.
And luckily for me, this was just a short time before they announced Tales and the special editions.
Just orderedandpickedup a pristine copy of Chrono Cross off the innahnets. Time to fire up the ol Playstation.
Got Disciples: Sacred Land (1999) from GOG's Holidays sale. Been playing for quite a many hours now and really liking it. Like a perfect mixture of RPG and strategy.
" Currently playing Zelda - Oracle of Season, hoping to play Oracle of ages too "Orage of Ages is such a beast. Hurry up and blast through Seasons to get to the real prize.
Been playing some Sid Meyer's Pirates! recently. Game's a blast.

I hear you. I bought that game thinking it would be perfect for someone like me (and I'm sure the big open-ended-ness of it is) but I couldn't play it for long thanks to the weird ass control method.

"If you like that game, allow me to tell you that Disciples 2 is way better. A much more pronounced and distinct art style, and somewhat more complicated mechanics. I find the first game to be pitiable by comparison. Oh, and Heroes of Might and Magic III is also a good choice if you want games of that genre.
But what old game have I come upon recently? Star Control 2, which as far as I can tell is Asteroids+Mass Effect 2's galaxy map as far as gameplay goes, planet scanning included. On the plus side, it's actual legal freeware and I didn't have to go through any questionable means or pay money for it. But I don't think I'll play it enough to blog about it.
i think counter strike source is the oldest new game. i don't buy a lot of old games. once a new system comes out i go buy that. i am thinking about buying battle toads for sega game gear. i saw a couple of them on ebay. just for laughs because people like to call gamestop and ask for that game.

Recently discovered: Amber: Journeys Beyond
Recently played through: Myst: Masterpiece Edition, Phantasmagoria
Had a stomach flu and couldn't run Titan Quest on my laptop and wasn't really wanting to just dungeon crawl w/ Torchlight, so I picked up Sacred on Steam during the sale for like 4 bucks. Definitely have put more hours into it than I though I would.

Thanks, will check out that Might and Magic 3. Been meaning to get into the franchise a while anyway. I guess starting with that 6-pack at GOG is good start?
" @ArbitraryWater said:Alright, time for the primer: Heroes of Might and Magic is the Turn Based Strategy spinoff to Might and Magic, a first person hack 'n slash-esque RPG series. Disciples borrows a lot from Heroes, but manages to be its own game and not seem derivative. Heroes III is considered by many (including me) to be the high mark of series, although you can't go wrong with II (also available on GOG) or V (On steam. Just get Tribes of the East as that is a standalone expansion) I also recommend that Might and Magic 6 pack, but it's a very different set of games. Might and Magic VI is probably the best of those, as well as the most modern." @kalmis said:Never played any of the Disciples games before so wanted to start from the first game. blood. I really want to play it, but for some reason it gives me motion sickness. I think its color choice because when I play doom im fine
I liked Oracle of Seasons more than Ages. It depends on whether you're more into puzzles (Ages has 'em) or combat (Seasons is more battle-oriented). I thought Seasons was generally more colorful, too.
As for old games I've recently discovered... I haven't really played it yet and won't for a while, but I recently got a good glimpse of Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar for the NES. Considering how the vast majority of the games in that series aren't all that great, Ultima IV manages to rise above the rest. It might be on the same level as an early Dragon Quest game in terms of goodness. It definitely seems worth a playthrough at some point.
Well, let me point you to this forum post I created...

Other than that, I just purchased Summon Night and RIviera - The Promised Land for the GBA.
Depends on what you would class as old, I'm taking Playstation 2 era as a viable answer.
It would be Grimgrimoire for me.
