What is the most prestigious GOTY award?

Hey gang. I've been seeing GOTY awards for years and years but I've never actually thought: what is the "de facto" GOTY award? Obviously everyone has differing opinions and honestly in the case of video games these days I believe that to only pick one game above all else is near-impossible.

What do you guys think? Which award is the most prestigious and why?

Prestigious, I guess you'd go with the DICE awards. The VGAs are probably most viewed. For me personally as a Giant Bomb fan, I'd go with the Giant Bomb community GOTY award, since it's a little more scientific than the staff GOTY.

DICE I would say overall but I mean who cares really. Fallout 4 beat Witcher 3 last year so fuck that noise.

I don't put a ton of credence into any GOTY stuff. I get some mileage out of the GB staff lists but it helps knowing their tastes as well. I actually really like the community's GOTY lists as well because they feel a little more "scientific" than the staff stuff. Ultimately, the most prestigious GOTY is the one I choose for myself!

Brad's top 10 is usually important, he would die for some of his choices.

One thing I really appreciate about GB's approach to game of the year has been the emphasis on the discussion rather than the final list. Frankly, the list itself doesn't matter. We're all going to disagree with it to some extent. The value comes from hashing out what we liked and didn't like of the games released that year.

The most important one is that Wikipedia page that ranks the games of that year by number of GOTY awards won.

They are all arbitrary with positions often being interchangeable anyway. It's too early in the year to argue about this stuff right now, bah humbug.
