Ok maybe I took this the wrong way. I probably shouldn't have said WoW killer, I guess I phrased what I meant a little wrong. I feel like a Harry Potter MMO could be SUCCESSFUL. There that is better worded. I agree with

I think alot of people are misunderstanding the fact that the 12 million subscribers wow has are not necessarily all MMO players, they are WoW players, kinda like me. I could never go to another MMO no matter how earthshattering it is, I am done I did my time with World of Warcraft.
He is right. Not all MMO players are WoW players. The HP MMO could attract other players.

Harry Potter MMO will not work.  First of all , if you go with the Hogwarts formula , everyone will start as annoying little kids.   Tanking : How is this going to work ?  I cant imagine a 12 year old Harry Potter clone with a stick soak up damage from something bigger than him.  Damage: Since everyone is a Harry Potter clone with a stick , I guess everyone is a Mage and does ranged damage. what about melee ?  Quests and killng: from what I seen in the movies , in Hogwarts they don't teach 12 year old kids how to brutally murder monsters and collect their loot for quests. Unless Dambeldor hands over knives.   PVP:  the whole dueling idea sounds boring as hell , gamers like to brutally murder and then Tbag each other .  Raids: I feel sorry for the 12 year old Harry Potter clone who has to tank Basilisk , gonna be bloody .. unless they make it T for Teen game. Thats why I think Harry Potter MMo will fail.
As for this you have the wrong idea completely. The Harry Potter series has become much darker and more adult oriented as it went on. Its not all flowers and unicorns. There is torturing, murdering, war, love, I mean everything that more mature series has. Its not gunna be all casting a spell that makes things levitate. In the movie you see the power of just teenagers and adult wizards. There are many spells that are extremely powerful. Look at Voldemort and Dumbledore's duel at the end of the 5th movie. That was badass. It doesnt have to be a light-hearted kids game. And yes you all will be mage's but you can still tank. There are spells that slow enemies down(Impdementa), provide shielding(Protego), and you can sure as hell make up more spells that will help you soak damage. I mean ITS MAGIC! If you are telling me it isnt plausible for there to be spells that will protect you and soak damage then you are crazy.

You guys know WoW doesn't have to die for other MMO's to succeed, right?

This "WoW killer" concept is getting real old. The only thing that will kill it at this point is the steady stream of people becoming disinterested in it and quitting. Other MMO's haven't had the draw to usurp it. I stopped playing WoW because I got bored of the game itself, not because some other MMO seemed more interesting.

You can't really KILL an MMO. Look at Ultima Online, Anarchy Online, Everquest ect. Those are still going strong after many many years.

@Laketown: I like this idea of course it is only a matter of time before they announce another pointless MMO.

Nothing will kill WoW, its too late for that. Its gotten to the point now where I see it as more of a question of whether or not Blizzard's next MMO will blow up as crazy as WoW did. Which lets face it, it probably will.
I'm predicting it won't. Sure, it might get a lot of attention but WoW was a perfect storm-scenario for Blizzard. I doubt we'll see something similar, although that doesn't mean their new MMO is doomed to failure, it'll probably do reasonably well.

@Why_So_Serious: I know HP movies became darker , but you still start as a first year 12 year old Harry Potter clone annoying kid with a stick , and I bet it will take long time until you actually grow up into a brutal monster killing wizard. Here is an idea of my own , instead of doing the whole Hogwarts school thing , players begin as adult Hogwarts graduates familiar with killer spells but not really skilled users of these spells. the whole game happens outside Hogwarts while Hogwarts is a Stormwind-like capital city.

and what about armor and weapons ? in the movies all wizards look the same .. a robe and a stick (I know its a wand but w/e). "ZOMG WE JUST KILLED BASILISK AND HE DROPPED THIS BADASS EPIC PURPLE TIE THAT BOOSTS STAMINA AND HAS FIRE RESISTANCE"

The Titan project is going to "kill" WoW in my opinion. Although that will be less of a killing and more of a migration.

Also, Harry Potter just doesn't lend itself well to an MMO, unless it's kid-focused. You don't need an amazing IP to beat WoW, you just need a MMO that changes up the formula dramatically. Even the people who play WoW now are getting fed up with it, and everyone I know who used to play in vanilla have now stopped. Guild Wars 2 probably won't be as big, but it will mark an interesting change in the MMO landscape. SWToR, on the other hand, looks kind of generic so far to me. I'm not sure whether it's just more of the same or if it does try to innovate.

Knowing Blizzard, Titan should be the perfect storm here: they'll be able to advertise it to everyone who plays WoW. Also, it's a Blizzard game, so almost everyone will instantly buy it anyway. But most importantly, I think they are trying to do something new with it and I am really excited to have a look at it sometime soon. Even though I like MMO's as a genre (social stuff is always more fun than being alone), they have gotten really stale and it is time to move away from the Everquest clones. With the current state of PC hardware, some really cool stuff can be done with them that simply wasn't possible a couple of years ago.

It doesn't matter what world you're set in or how many features you have, at this point several million people have put years and years of their life into this game. The "WoW Killer" is some other MMO by Blizzard that gives you a boost based on your WOW character.

I get what your saying about armor drops, and this was only an idea I had. Its gunna have flaws but I feel these are minor things that actual game developers could find a way around if they took time and care to actually make a good game. Yes, it may fail and sure it might not lend itself to the "perfect" MMO recipe but I mean whats perfect now days anyways?

Pretty much this.  Of MMOs who have had their doors shut down, it could easily be argued that they still had enough of a playerbase to remain open, but the company wanted to just cut their losses, so to speak *coughcoughEAcoughcough.*
