Every time I had a substitute teacher in middle school, they would play October Sky. Like, almost literally every time, for three years. I have therefore seen October Sky at least six times, possibly more.

It's a good movie and all, but there had to have been some other things around that were somewhat educational/historical, goddamn.

(Special shoutout to that one sub who showed us the hillbilly incest episode of X-Files...)

The real answer though is, of course, Jurassic Park. Wore out the VHS as a kid and have rewatched many times as an adult, including in theaters maybe two years ago.

Probably something silly, like Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.

I was an easily amused child.

There’s a good chance that it’s actually some animated movie and I’ve just forgotten, but the movie that I do remember renting several times and then eventually buying to watch more times is Face/Off.

If you are over the age of 50, you simply don't realize how many time you have seen A Charlie Brown Christmas 1965, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), etc. The Wizard of Oz is on TV every year since i was born...in addition to The Ten Commandments (1956 film) and Ben-Hur (1959 film).

But, I have a soft spot for Showgirls 1995; t a good anti-parable story worthy of any gospel. For what is Showgirls if it is not a 'simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson' - don't rob prostitutes with knives in Las Vegas.

The Matrix, follow by Alien and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

#1 with a bullet, Grease. Watched it daily for a couple months in high school, sometimes up to 3 times a day.

In my adult life, probably Dragon Ball Evolution. It's real dumb. Fun to introduce my friends to it and watch their reactions. Roughly 10 times.

As a child....I THINK Suburban Commando. I dunno how many times I've seen it, just remember watching it a lot.

It was probably Spaceballs or Independence Day for awhile, I would watch those daily when I would skip school....

But I THINK at this point? Probably "Clue."

It's my favorite "nothing to watch, let's watch this" movie, it's a crowd-pleaser, it's fun alone or with a small group. Very versatile and excellent.

@chamurai: I only watched it once, but I can remember the PREVIEW for it on the TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze VHS tape word-for-word.

I'm really not sure. But here are some candidates.

I'm too young to remember this well, but when you're a little kid you'll happily watch the same stuff over and over and over again. My mom gave me a lot of animated Disney movies to watch, and I latched on to some more than others. I think the two I watched the most were Sword in the Stone (1963) and Robin Hood (1973). A few other live-action films that were my mom's old favorites and that I also latched onto were The Ten Commandments (1956), Ben-Hur (1959), and Swiss Family Robinson (1960). Had to have been at least a dozen times for each of these, though haven't watched any of them in a while now.

When Fellowship of the Ring (2001) came out, I saw it five times in theatres, and then forced any other high school friends who hadn't seen it to watch it with me when the extended cut came out on DVD. So that one is also a dozen or so. (I've also watched the "making of" bits of the extended DVDs almost as much. They remain the best "making of" movie documentaries ever made, and are fascinating to watch even of you don't particularly like the LOTR films.)

Other than that, there's a big list of movies that I've seen at least half a dozen times because I like them all so well that they just never really get old for me... most because they're objectively good films, others because they're connected to my childhood or are "bad"/hammy in just the right way. Off the top of my head (with some assistance from my DVD shelf): The Court Jester (1955), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), The Dark Crystal (1982), Gandhi (1982), The Last Unicorn (1982), The Karate Kid (1984), Legend (1985), Aliens (1986), Hoosiers (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Terminator 2 (1991), The Three Musketeers (1993), Cutthroat Island (1995), Mr. Holland's Opus (1995), As Good As It Gets (1997), Erin Brockovich (2000), High Fidelity (2000), Spotlight (2015).

Looking at this list, which I ordered by year after the fact, no surprise the majority of movies are from between 1982 and 2000. I was born in 1984, so this was the stuff that was out on home video when I was growing up before heading off to college.

The Muppet Movie and Bridge to Terabithia.

Well probably I won't be original, when I say: some part (I don't know which) of LotR or Star Wars.

When I was a kid it was probably one of four movies that were on the same VHS tape at my grandparents house: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Teen Wolf, Planes Trains and Automobiles and The Never-Ending Story. One of my aunts made it for my cousins and it got left there. The only bad thing was she muted or edited out parts that she didn't want her kids to see. Needless to say, seeing those films later came with some interesting revelations.

Now it's probably Spotlight. I absolutely adore this movie for so many reasons. It's a rare true story of people pursuing justice for victims of horrible crimes and ends with at least some hope that things will improve. It also has that low-key office noise and mellow soundtrack that is good to fall asleep to.

The Fast & The Furious (2001 movie).

Kung Pow is my answer as well. I rarely watch movies nowadays, so any answer I give would be what I had on VHS as a kid. Barbershop, Dunston Checks In, and Oliver and Company would be close runner-ups.

EDIT: There are also a couple of Power Rangers movies on that list. The Original and the Turbo movies.

Sidenote: Oliver and Company is the only good work Billy Joel has ever done.

As a film nerd with anxiety, I find myself constantly revisiting "safe" films—films I love that I can put on and zone out to while I process stuff. The short list includes:

However, the amount I've watched any of these is probably dwarfed by how, when I was a child, I watched Beauty and the Beast every day after school for... months, probably. That and Fantasia were my childhood go-tos when the world was just too much.

It's either Amélie or something like Dumb and Dumber.

I don’t rewatch movies so much anymore, but when I was young my grandma had the original Star Wars trilogy on laserdisc (yep, laserdisc!) and I watched those back to back almost every time I was at her place, which was a lot. The next one would likely be The Big lebowski, in my teens and Oldboy mostly from showing it to others over the years (which all this repeated viewing has made me more critical of)

Black Dynamite. I just think it's one of the funniest movies and I have shown it to plenty of people who hadn't seen it yet.

Probably The Thing (1982).

In the running would probably be Ghostbusters, Wizard of Oz, Return of the Jedi, Muppets Take Manhattan, and Blues Brothers. Clue is up there as well. I probably saw Cannonball Run dozens of times as a kid, but haven't watched it in 25-30 years. I'm not counting all the times my daughter watched Frozen while I was in the room.

Actually, thinking a bit more about it, it might actually be The ‘Burbs for me. It’s kind of a toss up between that and The Thing, but there was definitely a time when I would watch The ‘Burbs no less than once a month, if not weekly. Went through a couple copies after I would wear down that VHS to the point that the audio would get all distorted.

Happy Gilmore, and it still puts a huge smile on my face when I watch it today

Didn't have a clear answer but after scrolling these answers probably a Christmas movie that I watch almost every year. Couldn't say which one. My wife and I watch a collection of short ones so for feature length I don't know.

None Christmas movie? I assume it'd be an animated Disney movie I saw a lot as a kid; probably the Lion King or something.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is the answer I'm most confident in.
