Either by saving up or just getting a job. I saw that other thread about your first gaming platform and was wondering how different or similar the answers might be.....
What was the first platform you bought with your own money?
xbox360...
and then another xbox360 because the 1st one RROD'd...
and then Wii
and then PS3 slim
and then DS
and then DS again cause my mom lost it
and then high-end PC
and then X360 Slim + Kinect cause my sister wanted dance central
when i was a kid (age 12 below) i was extremely bratty and always demanded for consoles. End up getting a Genesis and Saturn, really bad choices lol. When I hit 14, i realize i cannot pull shit like whine&complain anymore and stuck to hand-me-down PCs from my parents.
You know, consoles always come outt near my birthday, so I usually get them as birthday presents. With the 360, I chipped in some money. I'd have to say the DSi was actually probably the first I paid for entirely myself.
Thinking about it, the first console I bought with my own money was probably the original DS.
PS1, this is also when I learned that a memory card is an essential thing to have with a PS1. From then on I made sure to know these kind of details.
First console I bought with my own money was an N64, bought it on the cheap from a friend, after that it was a PS2 and after that a PS3
N64. Used my very first paycheck to buy the system. Still have it at my house ready to be hooked up.
PS2, dropped like $500 on it day one to get the system, memory card, extra controller and a couple of games. First big purchase I ever made with money from my first part time job. Felt like a pimp walking out of that EB with my new system in a special Sony PS2 branded shopping bag. Great system to.
Colecovision. Once I saw Donkey Kong, real fuckin' Donkey Kong, on an actual TV screen I cut lawns in the summer and shoveled snow in the winter to amass the small fortune (for a kid) to get one. Totally worth it.
Saved up like crazy for about a year to buy a gaming PC of my own so I didn't need to rely on the scarce availability of time on other people's PCs.
That would have been Sega Megadrive back in early 90's. Bought with money that I got from delivering local newspaper twice a week. Had some help from my brother. Who still today calls me slave driver because of that. I didn't really pay him well (if at all). Anyway our first purchase was Sega Megadrive that came bundled with Sonic 2. The next big thing we got was few years later when bough NHL 94.
Game Boy Advance - Used it once the day I got it, never touched it again.
I paid for some PC parts and built a "gaming PC" when I was like 13, so that would have been first I guess.
First actual console would be the Xbox 360.
