What's your top 3 or 5 favorite platformers? (one in a franchise)

I've been on a bit of a platformer kick recently so I was wondering.

The first Nintendo platformer I spent real time on was Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 so I have nostalgia for Wario that I don't have for 2D Mario games. I only really started playing Mario games with Mario 64. Along with Wario Land, I was also playing Kirby's Dream Land 2 at the time so those games really have a place in my heart. Besides those games and 3D Mario games, I actually haven't play that many platformers. I really liked the first Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank: A Crack in Time, and Rayman Origins. Sly games don't seem to really do it for me. I'm playing DKC Tropical Freeze and accounting for momentum, animation, and weight makes it very interesting I think.

What are some of your favorite platformers to date?

And probably some more that are just as good.

Spelunky is the best 2d platformer ever unless you have the climbing gloves. Then sometimes there are issues with your character sticking to the walls when you don't want him to. But other than that it definitely controls way better than other platformer.

Super Mario World. The GOAT

Crash Bandicoot 2 is amazing. I haven't played the remasters yet but it will be like a new game because it has been a long time.

Rayman Origins. The chase levels were amazing and it's one of the best looking games ever made.

Ms Splosion Man. The sequel improves on the first game, which hada great base and inventive hook.

Donkey Kong Returns. Another tough, great looking, great playing, 2D platformer.

  1. Psychonauts
  2. Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
  3. Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
  4. Sly 2: Band of Thieves
  5. Super Meat Boy (I'd call this a perfect game. The only 2D platformer that's even close to my list.)
