when is "next gen" gonna be the norm

both next gen consoles are less then a month old and there are still a slew of game for 360, ps3 that i wanna get but i am getting my ps4 very soon (amazon screwing my order) i personally think that when metal gear solid 5 comes that when i think we'll see the full benefits what do you think

when are ipad, free to play, pay into beta, etc are going to stop being disruptive elements?

i suppose but i ment more the lines of next gen taking over

@smcauley600: Once a majority of the games released are made from the ground up for next gen hardware with next gen tools and engines.

When Divekick comes out on PS4

I would say late 2015, Q3 or Q4 2015. 2014 still has a lot of last gen games coming out that will not be in on the next gen systems. And you will see almost all games coming out in 2014 on both gens.

When AAA games are not ported to 360 and PS3, and the community in new consoles is considered more active...

For us lot on here? Probably late 2014/early 2015 (except for Persona doing it's usual trick) as then there will be a good number of Xbox One and PS4 exclusive games. Although I'm probably being more than a little early on that prediction.

Between Dark Souls 2 and Persona 5. When Dark Souls 2 hits we will still be calling PS4 and XB1 next gen. When Persona 5 hits we will be calling it a previous gen game.

I remember this exact same question being asked at the start of the previous generation. The term "Next Gen" was used for the PS3/360 for years, so I'd say we've got it until 2015 at least.

Probably when more games start coming out and we're all playing on them more frequently. In other words, a few years.

When Ground Zeros comes to PS4. The Xbone version is a on a VHS with an LP on it.

When the next consoles come out I guess? At least give the current gen some time to breathe before talking about this craziness. I mean, the PS4/Xbox One/Wii U? is just starting up.

Mid-late 2015

I'm guessing maybe as early as Q1 2014. inFAMOUS: Second Son, Destiny, and Titanfall are the games that I associate with next-gen consoles, and all launch in a relatively close window of time.

When Persona 5 is released on PS3 in the US. That's around the time 'next gen' wasn't next gen anymore for PS3 and 360 when Persona 4 came out. It's when lots of people looked at the PS2 finally and went "that's old."

Once the PS3/360 versions of cross gen games stop being spoken of you KNOW that gen is dead. I'd say we can transition out vernacular as early as holiday 2014.

When are people going to stop saying "next gen" when referring to what is now "current gen"?

The new consoles are current gen. Not next gen. People need to realise this.

Chances are you still haven't played all the worthwhile PS3/360 games or even close and chances are the PS4/XBone games will suck for 1.5-2 years; so there's your time period to finish playing older games.

I'm confused is next gen called current gen and is current gen called last gen.

I'd say next Christmas. Usually it takes a year to a year and half in the last few generations. At least in my opinion
