It really depends on the game for me. When I played MW2 I used to talk to some friends, but almost none of my close friends play xbox so they don't talk to me there. I usually just bring my laptop and stick to msn for that.
When you are playing a game by yourself, will you do voicechat with friends, or just focus on the game at hand?
I only talk to my close friends that I know personally...I hate talking to people who I have never met or seen their face.
When I'm on Xbox Live and playing a single player game, I have friends that will constantly ask me to join chat with them. I don't join because I know I will get distracted and not actually catch any of the audio that is going on in the game and it typically matters that I focus.
The reason I have a TV by my computer is so I can play every game while still being on skype with my broskis. XBL chat is so fucking horrible, I couldn't use that shit. I felt like a deaf old man when on there because I didn't catch a word of what anyone said.
That said, in atmospheric games I might turn skype off/volume down, it feels wrong to have people belching and bragging about their WoW achievements when playing HL2.
Oh yeah, talking with random people online is mostly retarded (I'm talking stuff like MW2 and the likes).
If it's a multiplayer game like Halo or Call of Duty, yeah I will accept their party chat invites. But if I'm playing Single Player Campaign, you best be leaving me the eff alone haha.
If we're talking about playing a game online and talking to someone who is not playing with me... that never happens.
If I'm playing a video game with story I don't really like to talk unless the person is in the room with me. And I don't really do that with my friends mostly the girlfriend that sits beside me and watch / talk.
If there's multiplayer or nothing interesting is happening in the game I'll chat with friends over Xbox Live.
If I am playing by myself in single player, then no I will not chat with anybody. If I am in multiplayer, I will chat with the people I am playing with/against. Other than that, I don't voicechat.
It depends. I find it crazy when my friends play Bioshock while in a party, because I feel that is a game where you need to hear everything. But, I'm fine with playing Gears of War single-player in a party. Obviously, when it's multiplayer, I usually don't mind.
I don't like to talk to people when I'm playing a single-player game because I like to immerse myself in the experience. It's partly the reason I also don't like to play games that CAN be played co-op that way if I care anything about the story. I'll usually play the single-player first by myself, then play with other people later.
now i'm in a very peculiar situation... you see when i'm on my xbox there's rarely a time where i'm not voice chatting. and i often question the chatting system, when i'm having freinds yelling at how the other team are noobs down my ear, when i'm playing a really heavy single player game.
however when i play my other consoles i often sit there thinking, now if there was somebody else to talk to i'd get through this boring dungeon/level without thinking too hard.
it's one of those cases where, the chatting helps forget the slower parts of a game, yet become detracting at the more serious(or unserious in the case of say brutal legend) deeper and more interesting side.
I usually have one or two friends online whenever I get on, so I'll just start up a private/ party chat with them and either play whatever single-player game I have, or get together and play a little Call of Duty/ Madden/ whatever else.
A, all business here.
Only when I play with my cousin or a good friend I actually use the mic, otherwise meh, fuck em.
I'm absolutely atrocious at multitasking. If the game requires a certain amount of concentration I'll focus WAY too much on the game and I'll have a difficult time putting together a logical and coherent sentence. I can't even talk on vent while using WoW. More often than not, I'll find myself jumping around Dalaran. After about two hours I'll realize what I'm doing and attempt to do something. Only for the process to continue.
Edit: changed a few words to make it easier to understand.
Sometimes. If it's my first playthrough in a single-player mode then no, I won't chat. But if it's the second time around I will chat with my friends.
I usually stay away from party chat as it gets too distracting although I'll dabble in private chats when I'm playing a multiplayer game. That being said, I listen to podcasts a lot while I play games provided that the story isn't particularly important or I'm on my second playthrough.
