I've never preordered a game before and I'm thinking starting to. Where do you guys go for preorders? I hear horror stories about both Gamestop and Amazon. BTW, the closest Gamestop is 35 minutes away. I have a nearby Wal-mart, but I have no idea if they would be any good (their employees always seem clueless.)

I think Walmart only does Pre-orders for select games.

If you live that close to a Walmart I wouldn't really worry about Pre-ordering, you are basically guaranteed to be able to find the game you are looking for when it is released.

Pre-ordering is pretty much worthless.  A game they make you pre order to get at gamestop, 99% of the time you can just walk into Best Buy or Target and just ask them for a copy.
That's why whenever I try to get a game from gamestop and the employees say, "you should have pre ordered," I just say, "no, I'll just go get it at Best Buy."

Depends where you live.  Around here when a popular game releases, if I don't have it preordered I don't get it.  EB Games is the only store here that receives games close to the release date, the other stores usually don't have the game for almost a week.

If you are going to pre-order a game, just walk into Gamestop and ask to reserve a copy. Done.

Don't start preordering, man. It will only leave you annoyed at all the Gamestop harassment.

What he said.  I pre-order all of my games from Gamestop.  The only time I didn't pre-order from Gamestop is when I pre-ordered Zelda: Wind Waker to get Zelda: Master Quest.

Their's no need to ever pre-order. With exceptions of hardwatre & Special Editions, Gamestop &  Best Buy always have game's in stock ay one. The only time you should ever pre-order is if you get some special item for doing so.

There are some games that give out artbooks or soundtracks to people who preorder, and those are the best times to preorder.

well that's different.  If it's just the game you're getting, or you don't care about any special edition stuff than, than preordering doesn't matter.

Of course, unless its a big release that actually might not have enough copies on launch day, or if you want to go to the midnight launch (those are always preorders right?)
