Hello

Konami's Racing Jam has the catchiest game soundtrack from the '90s in my personal opinion.

I'd have to say Ocarina of Time because despite having never played it herself, by simply being in the same house as me at the time that music is stuck in my sisters head forever.

For myself personally i start singing the NBA Jam team select music about 5 times a day.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles In Time, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, any Final Fantasy, Symphony of the Night. There are way too many choices. I guess I'd probably go with Ocarina of Time.

The baroque/metal infused jams of SOTN get their galvanized hooks into me endlessly.

The FInal Fantasy VIII soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous and i bet even if you haven't played that game ,you can tell that there's a story being told throughout the tracklist. But at the same time, most songs are able to stand on their own quite well too, and have a strong hook.

Songs like The Stage is Set, The Mission & Only A Plank Between One And Perdition generate an awesome urgency.

Starting Up is the Axel F (Beverly Hills Cop) of JRPG's and immediatly conjures images of machinery being powered on.

Songs like Martial Law ,The Spy & Under Her Control offer a lovely jazzy steely dan vibe.

Balamb Garden & Fisherman's Horizon are sleepy flute-heavy songs that make it feel like peace has been lasting forever at these places.

Songs like A Sacrifice & Succession of Witches have a mystical ominent vibe that hints at a dark seductive power.

And finally you have the thumping prog-rock of The Extreme and The Man with the machine gun to let you know that this game gets quite bonkers.

And that's only 15% of the music in that game :D

That Lotus soundtrack is no joke, so I even covered a song. I think Drew mentioned it on here one time and led me to find it.

Also, the Earthworm Jim and Vectorman games are so great.

@csl316: Bloody hell, that's some mean guitar work there good sir! I did a by numbers synthwave version (that I would have to improve before sharing after seeing your handiwork) - it's a great soundtrack but that particular song is like the Magical Sound Shower of the nineties for me. So many days with friends lapping up the glorious split screen racing.

My suggestion I thought were 90s were actually 80s, now I feel old. :(

It was Outrun (8bit).

For 90s, probably Tex Murphy under a killing moon.

It's a boring answer at this point but it's really hard to beat Streets of Rage 2.

It's also an answer that I share. Can't go wrong with Go Straight.

I'll also add in Mega Man X. Spark Mandrill was one of my favorites.

@rejizzle:

JSR is great, but what about JSR2?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugo6ASPVu9g

Also, I have been on a bender of listening to Descent into Cerebron this week, even picked up the bridge at 1:08 on the guitar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALBKFB28E0M

Someone needs to mashup "Disculpame Profesor Cerebron" with that song.

Chrono Trigger gets my vote for sure. From the battle theme, to the fight against Magus, to World Revolution, and even just Lavos' classic theme it's all pretty great and thematic to whatever era the characters are in within the game.

There's a lot of good ones, but to me the hidden gem and one of the most underrated is TMNT The Manhattan Project for NES. The Konami soundtrack is so catchy and fantastic. If you like Konami soundtracks and haven't heard it, check it out. Underrated game also.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 - I wanna take you for a ride

Seriously though, catchy songs are easy to name. You've got:
San Francisco Rush - What's your name?
The Legend of Dragoon - Menu Theme
Uniracers - 5th race

Catchiest soundtrack is much tougher since catchy often means upbeat. Doom, Ecco the Dolphin, Sonic 2, Half-Life, Quake 2, Wipeout, Tony Hawk 2, and FF8 are all favourites of mine. But if you want jams, I nominate Einhander:

This is hands down the catchiest song of 90s gaming.

Toss up between Vib-Ribbon and Pogger Chungus Naganuma's magnum opus Jet Set Radio.

My first thought: right on, duder!

My second thought: another fan of Naganuma's (frankly incomprehensible) Twitter presence ;)

My third (and, frankly, annoyingly nitpicky) thought: JSR / JGR is a 2000 game :}

I preferred the JSRF soundtrack, myself, but the original's rough stems have immense charm.

This is let in the decade, but Gran Turismo 2 had a great sound track of cool jazzy numbers to really funcky guitar, brass, and piano ensembles (all synth). The Cardigans song is of course running on opening cinematics. The official music video of "My Favorite Game" has a racing theme...somewhat more edge-fo-your seat destructive through.

Ditto on the Streets of Rage (2) love, but the other Yuzo Koshiro banger soundtrack I love is The Revenge of Shinobi.
