PC is my go-to, but if I were to buy a console tomorrow, it would be a PS4 because that's were my console friends are, PS4 has the console-exclusive games I want to play, and I can get upcoming XB1 games on PC so there is no reason to by an XB1. Haven't cared about Nintendo seriously since the SNES, and thought the N64 was bummer besides Goldeneye, Winback, and Perfect Dark.

When the PS4 came out I had to make a decision if I wanted to upgrade my graphics card or buy a PS4 (which was about the same price as a new GPU), I picked the graphics card and still feel like I made the right decision, especially with news of the Neo coming out within the next year or two. I'll probably get a Neo at some point but right now there really isn't anything grabbing me. I'm holding out for as long as I can.

I've got all of them and I think the Wii U is the one I'd keep if I was forced to get rid of two. Xbox was my Destiny machine with friends but that's fallen off a cliff and the PS4 has games just none of my friends are on it and also the controllers are pretty weak. Rocket League ruined both R2 triggers on my controllers so I moved to the PC for that one also.

Also the Vita is terrible people come on, and I own one.

I don't want a pc, PS4 has the third party, and first party games that I want.

And I LOVE that controller.

I moved most of my multiplayer gaming from PC to console as most everyone I know IRL who games online games with a console.

That being said, X1 is my preferred multiplayer platform. I prefer the party system there (easier to join/leave, less prompts, less waiting) and I like how Gold is shared console-wide rather than account-wide like the PS4. I'm also excited for Project Scorpio. I like the feel of the controller better than the PS4's, as well.

PS4 I'm going to call my "JRPG" and singleplayer platform. It was the first of the current gen consoles I purchased, but I've had a difficult time finding people to party up with - it seems the less popular of the multiplayer choices for consoles in general. However, the selection of interesting Japanese and singleplayer titles keeps me playing.

PC is strictly MMOs and work-related, now, which is rather funny as I've been an exclusive PC gamer for the better part of 25 years now. It became apparent to me that outside of MMO-land the larger multiplayer base for FPS games is console-based, and that audience also happens to stick with titles a lot longer than PC gamers do. Take an absolutely mediocre title like Battlefront - on PC its userbase died practically overnight, whereas it was still going strong on both console platforms.

I have all three and I'd say I actually prefer the Wii U since it has the most as far as actual exclusives go. SM3DW, MK8, Splatoon and Pikmin 3 are all a lot of fun and Breath of the Wild will probably be good as well. The PS4 has the single best game so far in Bloodborne though. The Xbone I mostly have because I really wanted to play some Halo again but I'm not sure I'll keep it around for too much longer. I'll probably wait for a Sunset Overdrive sale, play through that and then sell it off. The controller is really handy for PC stuff though.

I'd go X1, since I like the controller, it's where most my friends play, and XBL > PSN, but really, gaming this gen kinda sucks. Witcher 3 aside, which is best on PC, in hindsight I would've been fine not playing 95% of the games I did play this gen. Batman AC, Halo 5, Destiny, Division, Shadow of Mordor, Watch Dogs, Dying Light, Tomb Raider, Battlefront, and so on can either fuck off or they were "just okay". Gucamelee and Rocket League were probably the most fun I had this gen, AAA games are bland and lacking so far.

I think gaming has somewhat gone downhill and TV is now my favorite entertainment medium since HBO, Netflix, FX, and others have knocked it out of the park. While games are getting less and less original AND have less content than before. Compare the content of Gears of War 3 or older Tom Clancy game to that of Overwatch and a lot of recent games then you'll see what I means.

So really gaming in general isn't all that great to me besides a few exceptions. I don't get why people love the PS4 so much, other than Uncharted 4 and maybe Infamous it has no released exclusives that I would want to play. I might get it for GOW, Spiderman, and VR (I'll wait and see), but so far I don't see the big deal. PC is obviously the best place to play since you have control on how the game runs, games are cheapest there, the largest amount of games, and the most original/innovative. I would say the only problem other than cost & knowledge of hardware, would be making friends if you already don't have some who play on PC.

I feel the same. The Steam sales passed without me buying anything. Gaming isn't getting better. Just bigger and more expensive, to the point that the devs/pubs go with what's proven and safe instead of innovating. My money is better spent on Blu-rays and Netflix. I'm enjoying God of War for the PS2 right now and I might look into more of those older games, but the new consoles and games in general are pretty unimpressive.

I actually just went back to Mass Effect 3 since I liked that multiplayer/horde mode a lot - the firefight that Halo 5 added got my hopes up, but it's pretty bad. I've actually gone back to Gears too, since they're good at co-op experiences and that's the mood I'm in. The last Steam sale wasn't even slightly interesting from what I saw - the good games were the same ones they've been pushing for years (Portal 2, Witcher series, Garry's Mod, etc).

Out of those three, it's really hard to say. I have friends on both X1/PS4, great games on both (for instance, I just got The Witcher 3 on X1, and I got Overwatch on PS4 a little after it released and am still playing it), but I also recently got a Wii U and a bunch of games that I've wanted to play for a long time on it. All 3 consoles are pretty good.

Soooo I'll default to PC just due to the sheer amount of games I have on it.

I feel most people that don't enjoy what video games are like these days are primarily talking about console (and in most cases AAA big budget console) games. If you feel that way I strongly suggest diving into indie and mid tier, the more niche stuff, on PC, this gen it's often where the real progress is made.

If you think this way and ARE including PC then...well...damn...I'm not much help.

Anyway, here's a few great games from this generation I played on PS4 and WiiU: The Witcher 3 and its expansions (blood and wine straight up blew my mind with how good it looks), Tokyo Mirage Session is the best console JRPG in like 8 years, MGS5 and hitman are 2 of the best stealth games ever made. I played more Destiny than any single game I can remember. Even with all its problems it's still the best console shooter in ages. Dark souls 3 and bloodborn are amazing souls games. I played more than 2000 matchs of super smash brothers for WiiU with friends and that was a blast. That's not even mentioning smaller stuff like Life is Strange, invisible inc and the witness.

@pyrodactyl: Yeah I feel similar when I see these posts. Feels like most people who have this view just aren't trying the stuff that's actually doing something new. There's plenty of great games coming out just like every other period in video games. There may not be as many that speak directly to you but that doesn't mean gaming in general is suddenly bad.

I own all three, but use my Wii U far more often. Mostly for Miiverse drawing and Virtual Console games lately. My PC is outdated, but it's fine for WoW and the odd point and click adventure game. I play new AAA games on Xone and PS4. The last one of those I played was Uncharted 4.

If the games you like are straightforward PS2 style action adventure games (A good recent example is Uncharted 4) this generation hasn't been super great. A lot of what's being experimented with involves inserting weird online features into those types of games (Destiny, The Division) or Open Worlding EVERYTHING (what are the chances that if Beyond Good and Evil ever came out it WOULDN'T be open world? And yes, I know that the first one sort of was, but it more a Zelda overworld than an Ubi open world.) The Indie stuff is great and all but is not as polished or as high budget as that other stuff.

Video game ass video games, like Darksiders or God of War, or Gears of War are less common and haven't had a great track record this gen (The Order is a prime example.)

Now that's changing (Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank are strong examples for PS4; Doom is a good multiplat example) and I personally haven't been bothered because I'm happy to play whatever good stuff is out there in whatever form it takes but you can't fault people for being unhappy that their favorite types of games are falling out of favor. Add in the fact that this gen hasn't had the same graphical leap as most past gens have, and I get why people are disappointed.

I used to own all 3 and ignored my PC (how foolish of me). I sold 2 to a friend (XB1 and Wii U) and kept the PS4. I do miss Mario Maker, but I'm not too upset. Now I'm upgrading my old rig and feeling pretty good about it.

I have a Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One -- my gaming PC died, and I don't plan to replace it any time soon. In order of preference: PS4, Wii U, Xbox One -- PC would have bumped Xbox One further down that list.

I prefer the PS4 controller over the others, and really dislike the ergonomics of the Xbox One controller. I prefer the 360 controller over the One's, but the DS4 is the best controller I've used.

I prefer the PlayStation and Wii U exclusives over the Xbox One exclusives that don't come out on PC.

The spec difference between PS4 and Xbox One only plays a factor in that the former is now the lead platform. The Wii U is underpowered by comparison, but I'd still take its few exclusives over the Xbox One's. All multiplatform games get played on the PS4.

It's Wii U because I got it for cheap. I'm thinking of a PS4, Xbox One, or legit PC upgrade long down the road, but by then I guess I just wonder if I'm gonna miss out on anything (sans if I go for PC upgrade, which I never really cared to do before honestly so idk)

PS4. I have always been a console gamer and PS1 was my first console and ever since that I have just stuck with Playstation.

I tend to find PS' exclusives more appealing than Xbox's. I would buy an Nintendo console instantly if I ever were to buy a second console since I miss Nintendo's exclusives. Unfortunately the selection of third party games it pretty poor on Nintendo consoles and since I don't have tons and tons of money I have a hard time justifying buying it.

Maybe NX will be the first Nintendo console I buy depending on it's price and selection of games. I know Nintendo is not a hardware company but I do find it a little dissapointing that they don't push their consoles a little further in terms of "horse power" so to say. It would be awesome to see a truly next gen console, that would set the new standard for consoles and having it come from Nintendo. Also I would just like to see what a true next gen version of Zelda and Mario would look like.

Only have an Xbox. Sony so far hasn't released any games I want so I've held off on a ps4. Waiting for a neo release date because horizon and Persona 5 look dope. Wiiu doesn't have enough games I want to play to justify a purchase but I might be interested in the NX

@ferbalk: In terms of consoles (which I don't know why people feel the need to let you know they PC game when you didn't ask) I prefer the PS4 hands down over anything else. WiiU has had some good games but I never even turn my Xbox One on nor have I had any exceptionally good experiences on the system.

There's actually a lot of varied answers here, it may not have been in the original question but as a gaming platform you can't ignore it, as much as the industry wanted to ignore PC's last generation.

This thread only represents a tiny group of people, but it's interesting to see how many identify themselves as PC gamers, but also have a console, and to see which console that is and their reasons.

So I finally, finally bought a Wii U a few weeks ago and I've played it quite a bit over the past few weeks.

My Xbox One has seen a respectable amount of use, more than enough to justify its purchase, but that usage has waned quite a bit. It's kind of just a big, expensive Blu-Ray player now.

@rafaelfc said:

The PC definitely does factor into my answer because if I didn't own a gaming PC, the vast majority of my gaming would be done on the Xbox One and my answer would be "Xbox One and occasionally Wii U". As it stands, I've been playing my Wii U a lot but once I run through the thin library of games on it that I want to play, I'll probably go back to only playing consoles occasionally and spending most of my time on PC (until Forza Horizon 3 comes out, and then Breath of the Wild next year).

I never said PC should not be considered in the gaming landscape, hell, it IS in fact the best platform to play games on, i'm not arguing that.

However it does seem out of the scope of the original question. And there does seem to be a portion of the gaming crowd who go out of their way to scream PC PC PC PC at every turn. Which is why I poked fun at it.

Like a lot of people PC is my main source of entertainment, however I decided to grab a Wii U and have been very happy with it. It brings a nice alternative to all the PC/other console games that I can play anywhere.

Probably once they are super cheap, I'll get a PS4 and check out the exclusives that I missed. This won't be until I can get something like Uncharted 4 for 5 dollars used so many many years to go on that.

Wow, dramatic much? Someone says video games are boring this generation and you're making it sound like there's almost no point in living anymore lol. Liking TV more than video games - since much like movies, video games feel bland right now for the most part is reasonable (with some critical thinking and being open to the opinion of others). No need to get so emo.

I said Witcher 3 was great. MGS5 started off really good, but it's too repetitive - plus it's unfinished and has an awful twist. Destiny vanilla wasn't even worth 60 bucks, replaying levels over and over just felt lazy. Super Smash Bros has been out since the 90's, it just keeps getting remade and iterated on. The rest of the games you mentioned don't fit my taste, so my mind remains unchanged.
