Which fantasy 4x game should I play?

It's still pretty early in development, but I've been enjoying Endless Legend. I loved Endless Space so take from that what you will. I think there's only 4 races right now and 8 are planned, so depending on how you feel about early access it might be worth going with something else and waiting till official release.

Right now I'd go with Age of Wonders III, there is hardly anything better in regards to fantasy 4X games. Though I can't wait for Endless Legend, but will wait for a final release rather than opting into early access.

Age of Wonders III is pretty effin' great, though its 4x elements are pretty light, making it resemble Heroes of Might and Magic a bit more. If you want something a bit older (and by a bit older, I mean something that came out last year) Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is pretty solid as well.

I'll second this, Amplitude et al have had a really interesting take on player and early-adopter input incorporation and it was really rad to play Endless Space as it iterated. As it is, Endless Legend is really neat to muck around in and see where things are going. However, if you aren't keen on getting in on an early access scene (I can't blame you, I've been burned more than once by my own over-eagerness to get in on stuff) then I would heavily recommend waiting before you give it a shot.
