Which game comes to mind when you think Half-LIfe?

When I think of Half-Life, I think of Half-Life. Because it's called Half-Life.

Yeah, but what game do you think about when Half-Life 2 comes up?

Personally, I selected Half-Life 2, because when I hear it I tend to consider the series as a whole. Either way, images and memories of playing Half-Life 2 are what spring to mind first when I hear "Half-Life".

Black Mesa isn't listed. This might be heresy, but Black Mesa is kinda the best Half-Life game? I mean, yes, I certainly do love all the others, but Black Mesa is the best looking, the best playing, and doesn't come with the same "this story has no ending" baggage that HL2 and its episodes do. I'd expand some more but I'm on mobile. If you like Half Life and haven't played Black Mesa, you reqlly ought to.

Half-Life 2, then Half-Life immediately afterwards.

Half-Life 1 and it's not even close.

I've considered playing Black Mesa but, new coat and Xen aside, I prefer the original's enemy AI.

I do get the question, i think about the Combine and Dog and Ant Lions more than things in the first game, and i can understand how players new to the series might not understand how industry changing Half Life 1 was, but i will defend that first game to the death.

@shindig Black Mesa is a different beast for sure but i definitely recommend it as a love letter to the original, many believe it's the best remake we may ever see.

Half-Life Alyx. It's the best in the series.

The first game. Hate to admit, but I still haven't gotten around to playing the second one. Was mostly gaming on console at the time it released, and when I finally got a new gaming PC, it was lost in the backlog next to Deus Ex and Freelancer.
