Which of the following headset brands do you own and use?
They aren't designed for gaming but I think my Klipsch Image x-11is sound great through the Dual Shock 4's headphone jack. I'm honestly super surprised how good it sounds. The fact that they were designed with iPhones in mind means it also has a mic on the headphone cable so they work really well for Destiny as well. A ton of games open up for me when I play with them, especially GTA V and Last of Us.
I used to have a Steelseries headset that I loved to death but it broke after a few years. I'm now using a combination of Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and desk mic and I'm never looking back.
Really surprised that Sennheiser got so many votes. They are really good when it comes to headphones in general. They don't have some kind speciality, they just sound really nice and natural. Can be on the pricey side though. They announced a new version of the Momentum over-ears at CES. It's wireless and has noice cancelling now, but they cost $200 more than the original. So, $500 in total.
word. i think i'm going to pick up a pair of last year's before the stock is gone- i have ZERO interest noise cancelling, and i prefer wired- so with a price drop, it's win-win for me!
I have a bunch of different headsets & headphones for music. I usually play game audio over (Cambridge Soundworks) speakers, but when I do use headphones for gaming it's Audio Technica Airs, 'cause they're comfy on my tiny head.
I got kind of sick of dedicated headphones. There are always situations where I want a Mic but want to use speakers, or use my headphones for things outside of my PC.
So I got a Blue Snowball as my microphone. A tad pricy, but it works flawlessly. I keep it a pretty good distance from me and I never get complaints about my sound.
For headphones I use these Sony headphones: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AJIF4E
They are honestly the best headphones I have ever used(my previous pair was a Bose on ear noise canceling, which were nice, but not worth anywhere near the price I paid).
Kingston HyperX, but I hear they're just rebranded Qpad/Takstar anyway
EDIT: Oh, and Audio Technica MTH-50 for general non-game listening
After yet another headset started going bad on me, I decided that headsets are generally overpriced for the build quality. So for christmas I got myself some normal headphones (an AKG Q701) and stuck a ModMic on it.
For on the go I have a Koss PortaPro [yup, Jeff Green], which I can also stick the ModMic to.
I've been using Creative's EP-630s(earbuds) for the last few years. They're pretty good and cheap. Seems like you need a new pair every three years. Which is impressive since I use them all the time. Thast's how I prefer to play video games. In headphones
Logitech g930. If they get near my microwave while it's running the wireless will die out. Turning them on is a hassle. Have to double tap the power button and even then it take a moment to connect. So you wonder is it connecting? or did I miss the power button? Infrequently the signal will drop out. This happens about twice a week, even when connected via USB. The outage lasts 2-3 seconds then connects again.
Regardless the audio is great and the battery is amazing. Not a bad purchase but I could do better.
I am using a pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones that don't actually cancel noise anymore. Still, they work better than earbuds.
I'm using a Kraken 7.1, which is ok. My biggest problem with it is that quieter sounds are accompanied by a rather annoying hiss. Its mic is pretty decent quality and the positional audio is pretty good. The software is kinda balls, though. Gets in the way of fraps and stuff.
Just got a Kingston Hyper X Cloud headset and I love it. The sound quality is great. (Needs to be powered by more than just a standard motherboard though since it requires more power than most things output)
Had a Razer but that broke and I bought a cheapo Plantronics while I waited for Christmas since I already asked for a nice headset.
Have also used Sennheiser headphones for music and they are nice. I would probably go with Audio Technica for the price of most Sennheisers at this point though.
Use some Sennheiser 160s mostly for music and podcasts. Set is light, comfortable and portable with its small base. Recommend for a micless, wireless, durable option.
Tritton 720s for gaming about 5 years and have bought two sets during that time. Fine enough for slightly overpriced gaming headsets. Never an issue except for the bullshit I'd need to do to get a mic to work on an Xbox One.
Astros are because neither Tritton will let me use a mic on Xbox One without doing some bullshit. Halo edition A50s because why the fuck not?
I have a Razer Carcharias headset and a Plantronics Gamecom 780 headset. I bought the Plantronics one second because I wanted a USB set at the time, and have switched back to the Razer because the audio quality is much better and it seems to balance everything better...also the construction is great.
I used to use whatevs, but my dad recently got me a Razer during our little family secret Santa thingy. It's not my favorite brand I guess, but it's pretty comfortable and has a nice sound quality...
Sennheiser PC 363D.
They sound great and are incredibly comfortable. Been wearing them 8-12 hours practically every day for almost 2 years at this point. They're pricey, but still rock solid after so much use and some of the best money I've ever spent on my computer.
I love my Sony Pulse Elites, I never use the pulse feature since it doesn't really add to my gaming experience and the audio quality on both ends (mic and speakers) are really good.
On PS4 I have been using their Gold branded headset and I really like it. On PC I was using a nice pair of wireless Logitech's, but those broke :( Might get a new pair with my tax return.
You can use the headset on your computer (and any other device that supports 3.5mm or USB audio)
Some kind of Steelseries, I think it might be Version 1 or something because the mic was separated from the headphones and I don't actually use it.
I'm not in a any way a sound guy, so the best thing I can say about them is that they are the comfiest I've worn and that they've lasted longer than any of my other headphones. I used to go through headsets fairly rapidly, even bought a bunch of them at once, once because I knew that they would break. The first pair of Steelseries I got lasted a lot longer, though that might've simply been because they weren't as cheap a product as the ones I usually got, I dunno.
They eventually broke, but I got a second pair and those lasted even longer, seeing as I'm still using them.
At home I have a pair of Senheisser 280 HDs which are fantastic for sound quality. At work (ahhh open plan rooms, god I hate them) I have a pair of Quiet Comfort Bose that are fantastic for hiding me from the inanity of my coworkers. So depending on what I need determines which I like better.
I bought a pair of Tritton's at one point years ago, back when I lived with people who had to sleep. They were on sale and I worked at the store I bought them at, so I got a pretty deep discount on them. They probably sound better than my speaker system, but I kind of dislike wearing headsets and I'm not convinced they'd even work with an Xbox One, so they sit in an electronics bin gathering dust.
I use a pair of Turtle Beach Ear Force X12's pretty much every day and for long periods of time without any noticeable discomfort.
They were comparatively cheap when I bought them, they sound pretty good (though hardly top-of-the-line), and they've been through several years of abuse at this point and haven't skipped a step. I may just be lucky on that one, though, my brother got the Playstation version of the Turtlebeach headsets - P11's, I think - and he had to send those suckers back twice. To counter my own counterpoint, though, he bought his own X12's some time ago and they have held up very well for him. So maybe the X12's are just a good line of gaming headsets.
In any case, I'm pretty happy with what I've got.
ATH-M50x, then depending on how nice I need the quality to be, either a boom mic, or an antlion attachable mic.
I used to have this set of turtle beach wireless headset but the battery wouldn't hold charge for long and then just died. So now I have these Kingston Hyper X''s and they are just awesome
@ben_h My man!
I use a Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro with 250 OhM, combined with a Samson Meteor studio microphone, ran through audio software with equalization and compression.

Thanks to Jeff Green I use Koss PortaPros!
Me too! I know his endorsement of them has turned into a big joke, but they really are fantastic headphones. They're the perfect intersection of comfortable, convenient, durable, affordable and euphonious.
I use a Blue Yeti for the talkin' and it's pretty sweet too.
A Steelseries Syberia somethingorother which looks like it should be on the set of Blake's Seven and was bought in a rush after discovering the Corsair set I'd previously bought had the audio quality of two tin cans on a piece of string. Under water.
It lights up.
I'm slightly embarrassed by it.
