Which of the following headset brands do you own and use?
I have a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2000s. Do the job for me as wireless headsets, I like to move from the desktop to the tv.
I've got a pair of Sennheiser PC360s. Bit pricey, but super comfy and as far as I can tell the sound is great. Also, Sennheisers always last forever. So that's a nice bonus.
Had mine for a couple of years now. They fit better for every day it seems, and sound really really nice.
I have some Sennheiser HD555's that I've had for around 10 years now. They've single handedly made me a loyal customer. Extremely comfortable, durable, fairly light, big bright sound with a respectable low end and do not require any amp to drive. Even after being discontinued for many years I was still able to buy replacement ear cups. When (or at this point if) they kick the can I'm pretty much set on just buying the updated 558's.
It's an open design so there is no isolation (good for a wide sound stage and being present when others are in the room, not ideal for heavy bass or loud environments).
I've recently added an Antlion ModMic 4.0 to the left so that my favourite pair can also double as a gaming headset.
Also have an AIAIAI TMA-1 which are pretty good closed DJ-style headphones. Very plain, flat black design, excellent bass, almost total isolation and comes with both straight and coiled detachable cords.
For portable I have a pair of Audio-Technica CK10's that are my go to ipod in-ears. Got them based on the glowing HeadphoneList review.
I have Turtle Beach PX21s that I bought back in the heavy Call of Duty days, they don't see much use now though. I moved onto Steelseries Siberia v2s which are very comfortable and probably the best price-to-value point of the sets I've owned. Even they have been sitting fairly still of late though, I invested in Astro A40s (in a delicious candy red) and while the price jump is fairly steep - at least for a 'gaming' headset - they're the most comfortable headset I've ever tried, by far.
The Steelseries would eventually get a bit uncomfortable after longer gaming sessions, while I participated in Extra Life last year and was wearing my A40s for pretty much the whole thing with no discomfort. Also when I picked up my PS4 I found I already had the correct cable to plug it in and go, which is neat.
Comfort is absolutely top priority for me - I don't care too much about the sound quality past a certain point, and microphones don't matter too much now because I use a separate mic on PC anyway (though I've never had complaints about the A40 mic when playing on PS4). I tend to only wear headsets while I'm actually talking to other people, or if a game specifically benefits from positional audio (this generally means first-person games, especially competitive online shooters and such).
I do also have a pair of Beats Solo that came free with my phone. I don't really use them though - sound quality aside I prefer around-ear to on-ear headsets. I have worn them a couple of times when taking long car rides as a passenger, as they are pretty good at cutting down a lot of outside noise.
Wireless Astro A50. Ive had them over a year and 1/2 now and easily one of the best electronic purchases iv ever made. While sound wise they are amazing, the plastic shell that surrounds the cups are BS. Especially for the $$$.
How's battery life for you? I'm thinking about upgrading from my Turtlebeach X41 and heard a lot of good stuff about the A50's except some nitpicking about battery life here and there.
I have a pair of Turtlebeach PX21's. Got them a couple of years ago as they were good all-rounders for PC, Xbox and PS3.
They've been great. Only two issues:
1) I don't find headsets comfortable, that's not the Turtlebeach's fault, just a personal preference - they're not particularly comfy or uncomfy
2) On PC, when plugging in the USB necessary for power I get a lot of feedback on them (not sure if this is an issue with my rig). To circumvent this I just plug the usb into a usb to power adapter and run this into a nearby powerboard
Corsair Vengeance 2100 wireless. Both me and my wife have owned a pair each for a year and they're amazing for both music, chatting and games!
Edit: Should add we use them for PC only.
I use a combination of $25 Sony headphones and the microphone from my HP USB webcam clipped to my monitor. No idea how it sounds to other users. I use push-to-talk so hopefully they don't pick up much keyboard noise.
I had a job where I needed to wear a headset which has completely put me off using them at home.
Custom made (I got my name laserprinted on it!!!) BeyerDynamic DT770. My friends laughed when i bought a headset for $400 but 6 years later im still happy with them and meanwhile they have gone through dozens of headsets and im fairly certain they are far beyond $400 at this stage. I have only changed the foam earpads twice for hygienic reasons, new foam pads cost $5.
Sennheiser HD 558's here. Not "gaming" headphones, and a bit out of date, but I cannot really see myself going for any other brand when I am in the market for headphones again.
Kind of happy to hear others have had a similar experience - I bought a pair of enthusiast Sennheiser headphones like 10 years ago and they've never let me down. I've tried others (I think Philips, Sony, Koss, Steelseries to name a few...) but they always end up breaking in some way (like, loss of sound/cable failure etc). If I were to pick up a headset it would probably be in the Sennheiser "G4ME" series.
I use headphones and mic separately. Both do not require software.
Headphones: Sony MDR7506
Mic: Blue Yeti
For gaming with voice, I use Logitech g930s. They sound pretty good and can almost sound great after adjusting the eq with the included software. They're wireless, which is super handy. Being able to do things away from my desk and still talk or hear a queue pop is kind of life changing. The wireless distance isn't bad and the charge still lasts nearly 10 hours after a year of regular use.
For gaming when I don't need to talk, I use Beyerdynamic DT 770s. @Rorie, you have mentioned that you're not a very social gamer and a music fan, so I would look into these. None of the frequencies are boosted, so you get true sound and can clearly hear all available frequencies. Some people aren't into that and prefer bass heavy headphones, but flat headphones sound much better once you get used to them and are much less fatiguing.
Very rarely do I use a mic so I use standard headphones. Have moded some Grado MS-1s, and recently have some Sennheiser 598s which are crazy good.
Console user here: I recently converted to a pair of Polk gaming headphones, which are among the most comfortable gaming headsets I've ever owned. The pair I own only offer stereo-to-virtual-surround sound, but the quality is still really high. And, again, the comfort is unparalleled for me. I had the opportunity to try these out at a friend's place--was sold almost immediately.
My buddy works at Skullcandy and got me a pair of Plyr1's that are pretty good. They're what I generally using for chatting and whatnot. Even though they are Skullcandy branded I think they're comparable to other Astro headphones since Skullcandy owns Astro I believe. Otherwise I use a pair of ATH-M50s.
For PC, I use a standalone mic (Blue Snowball) with Sony MDR7506 headphones (nice accurate sound).
For XB1, I use a Turtle Beach XO ONE headset. I just needed a cheap upgrade and it works well enough.
For PS4, I use a Turtle Beach DPX21. Not a fan of it. Tons of cable that makes it hard to store when not in use. Feels incredibly cheap. I prefer the sound of my 10 year old $20 Sony V150's. Looking to upgrade. Mic's good, though.
I am kinda curious to know if Rorie is asking this question for advertising purposes:).
Seems an oddly specific question to ask.
yeah i hope not. not that i deeply care, but it's in better taste to be up front with that sort of thing. as in a simple "we're trying to get better ads for the bombcast, and..."
Wireless Astro A50. Ive had them over a year and 1/2 now and easily one of the best electronic purchases iv ever made. While sound wise they are amazing, the plastic shell that surrounds the cups are BS. Especially for the $$$.
Same here.
Astro for gaming. Sennheiser for music and movies.
Havent used a mic in a while but the headphones i use most are sennheiser hd-598s which are quite amazing especially for the $70 i got 'em for. open backed so you'll hear outside noises but soundstage space and positioning are fantastic (and probably unrealistic)
I use Sennheiser's and AudioTechnica's products. Reason? Lower priced Sennheisers still have good range and higher priced AudioTechnica headphones are big. I like big over the ear headphones and they have real good bass.
If there are super-aural high quality headsets with quality mics I would like to learn of them (sub-$200), because that stuff lets you hear frequencies that normally go unheard, wouldn't you want to have all the music sound completely fresh to your ears, and also hear your enemies footsteps long before they have a chance to?
Never really paid too much attention to the battery as it seems fine, i guess 4-5 max? I use them primarily on PC but used them a long time ago on PS3 and they were great. The range also is incredible as i can go 2 rooms away and its still clear. I have had 3 friends buy on my recommendation and no regrets. The way i always put it is if this is one, or is, your favorite hobby, wouldn't you want the best? Also if they last 3 yrs, thats $100 investment for ea. year rather than buy a cheaper pair or 2 in the same time frame. All i know is it changed everything i thought i knew about sound in games.
Not really a headset but I really love my Sennheiser HD 650's, they pair really nice with my Nu-Force Icon. I use a mxr something or other usb condenser mic I bought off walmart.com because I had a gift card, its red and black and sounds pretty nice.
I had and liked a set of sennheisers but for the last 3 or so years have used a Blue Yeti mic with some studio headphones.
