Poll Which of these is the best Beatles song? (82 votes)

Helter Skelter 10%
I Want You (She's So Heavy) 7%
Dig A Pony 1%
I Me Mine 0%
Dear Prudence 10%
Happiness Is A Warm Gun 15%
Revolution 1 4%
Why Don't We Do It In The Road? 1%
Mother Nature's Son 2%
Other because I have bad taste 51%

Which of the above choices is the best Beatles song?

As for me, it's a close call between "Helter Skelter" and "I Want You," but "Helter Skelter" probably comes out on top more often than not. Everything is about the song is completely awesome, from Paul's roaring labored screaming at the beginning to the distorted, out of tune, off-time crashing and bashing throughout the length of the song. The song is noise rock, punk rock, and black metal before any of those genres existed. Harrison's short, weird solo is awesome and it's awesome the way Ringo screams "I got blisters on my fingers!" at the end of the song.

So what about you guys? What's your favorite Beatles song and why?

Note: I didn't include a lot of songs and I don't really care if your favorite choice is not represented in the options. I just picked from my favorites.

Second note: If you choose "Other," be sure to explain your reasons! Don't just click an option and then not explain your reasoning.

Out of those songs I say Revolution 1 is the best. Its not my favorite Beatles song though. I gotta give that one to "I've Just Seen A Face" because its just a great, catchy pop song that I can never get enough of.

Really like Revolution a lot. I think that the song is good due to the distorted sound of the guitars, that really draws me into the song and the airplane noises. Also the song looked really cool when playing the Beatles RockBand (just sayin'). Helter Skelter is a close second though.

Nah. My original, launch-day username on the site was just my name and some numbers after it, and the ability to change your username is pretty new, so I just decided to make a new account- and it was right around the time TooHuman was coming out, and I thought it was funny- I originally was shooting for Infinite Walrus, a King of the Hill reference, but it was taken everywhere. The fact that I Am The Walrus is my favorite Beatles song is a happy coincidence.

Dammit, why'd you even put the "other" option in there? I say "I want You (She's So Heavy)". I only discovered with The Beatles: Rock Band and I've loved it ever since. That ending is so awesome!

i thought there was a general consensus that "a day in the life" was one of the best pop recordings of all time. beautiful/haunting verse, big dissonant string section, like 6 pianos hitting the final chord but whatever i picked happiness is a warm gun

@fluttercry: that one is real nice too. i think you gotta do which is best beatles song by period or record or songwriter or something because picking one out of all these real different styles is pretty hard and kind of apples to oranges.

i'll get shit for this but i think the beatles are GROSSLY overrated, they're good no doubt, but DAMN are they overrated.

that said, eleanor rigby is probably my favorite beatles song.

they're the citizen kane of movies. painted as the BEST EVAH, but clearly other things have surpassed them but since they were influential everyone gives them this honorary title of BEST EVER. which is gross.

Yeah, absolutely. It's without a doubt the best Beatles album, followed by Abbey Road. It's the most experimental, least poppy, just-the-right-amount-of-production stuff that they ever did. Abbey Road, while awesome, was a bit too slickly produced for my tastes and Let It Be was a train wreck in that regard. Plus, The White Album was basically just a bunch of solo stuff mashed together, except only for the most part. For example, the Lennon songs on The White Album are some of my favorite Beatles/Lennon stuff ever, but I'm nowhere near as big of a fan of Lennon once he actually went solo. His songs on The White Album were mostly his songs, but the rest of the group was still able to rein him in a bit. Once he got out on his own, he didn't have anybody to tell him "no," and the quality of his work suffered.

Ooof, what a tough question! If backed into a corner, I guess I would pick "When I Saw Her Standing There". It's a simple, fun song that I can listen to in almost any mood. The runner-ups are Tomorrow Never Knows and Day Tripper for similar reasons. I find that songs like Yellow Submarine and Yesterday require me to be in a certain emotional state to get the most enjoyment out of them.

You ruined your own poll when you added the 'other' option!

Anyway, I did what you asked and picked the best for me out of those: I Want You. That song was my first experience with progressive rock, it blew my mind as a child.

Weird. I never knew that "I've Just Seen a Face" had such a large following. I never thought the song really sounded all that special. I mean, it stood out from the other tracks on Help! by nature of being acoustic and folk-rocky, but let's be honest, folk rock was not really the Beatles' strongest genre. The song really just attempts to replicate what dozens of other bands of the same time were doing much, much better.

@officegamer said:

I know! I was really torn about whether or not to include it. I eventually decided that if I didn't, the entire thread would just be people whining that I didn't include their favorite song or whatever anyway.

But, if I were to not be totally trolly in my answer, even though I totes love Yellow Submarine, I would probably say Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) or In My Life.

I go up and down on their songs all the time, but I always liked Rocky Raccoon consistently. But, I'm more of a Smiths guy as my go to Brit band so my Beatles opinions are probably going to suck.
