Something else, and I'm going to tell you what that is 7%

I thought this might make an interesting poll / thread. Feel free to vote for multiple franchises.

When considering a game, imagine a hypothetical situation where a new game in a series has been released to solid reviews. You used to enjoy games in this series, but would you be interested in this one?

Which games are you now sick of? Which game design was copied and pasted until you no longer cared? Which franchise refuses to just die like it should, or at least take some time off and give it a rest already?

Tetris: I still love it think it's a great game, but I haven't needed a new one since the Game Boy and I haven't played it in years.

Pokemon: Played Blue obsessively, but haven't touched a main line game since. Whenever I'm tempted I think about a random battle while wading through grass or turning a corner and getting challenged by a trainer and I think "No thanks."

The Sims: I had some fun with the first one, building silly houses and having my sims burn them down, but it's not a series I think about much these days.

Smash Bros: While I did buy the Wii and Wii U versions they didn't have the same lasting appeal as Melee did.

Most of these i'm less interested in but could see myself playing them regardless, so I obviously still care about them. The only one I think i'm done with is Pokemon. But i've been done with it since I played the first one so it's not a recent development. I might be interested if they make a fully 3d Pokemon (as in movement, not polygons) on the switch that changed up the combat but I dont see that happening. (and rightfully so since I think it would piss off the core fanbase)

It's heartening to see Pokemon get so many votes. It's a fun world, but that battle system is dreadfully dull. The most fun part of the game is the catching/collecting part (also distilled into Pokemon GO), but not so much the battling.

Assassin's Creed. It was a franchise that got driven into the ground by uneccessary yearly installments and little to no improvement on the games, with standouts like 4 being the exception.

I feel like Pokemon Go misses the mark on self-expression with Pokemon. In my mind one of the things about Pokemon was always about what your final team of 6 is.

Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty are the only two that stand out for me. And let me be clear, I used to actually get excited for these games and actively look forward to new entries in the series. I'll still play them and have an okay time, but it's just not what it used to be.

Assassin's Creed is a big one for me, also Resident Evil. RE6 killed the whole franchise for me.

I fell off of Assassins Creed real hard after 3 and I'm apparently the outlier on 4 because I think the boat stuff sucks.

While I no longer care for some others on the list the big one for me is Starcraft. Back in high school I lived for Starcraft (which eventually morphed into a Warcraft 3 addiction for many more years), but I didn't even buy the last expansion for Starcraft 2. I dunno if it's because other games got better or Starcraft got worse, but something really bad happened to that franchise.

Maaaaan, Halo for me. I used to be all about Halo both the gameplay and the lore. I even read a book or two. Once I played Halo 4....I had lost interest completely. When the newer consoles came out I went with a PS4 over Xbone so I haven't personally played 5, but from what I hear I'm not missing much/wouldn't be thrilled with where Halo went.

Prince of Persia was one of my favorite franchises during the PS2 days, and when Assassin's Creed was announced I thought "Awwww yeaaah this is the hot new successor to PoP for next gen!" And I really did like the first game. It was exactly what I wanted at the time. The second game was even better in most ways and continued down the path I envisioned for the series. Every game a new time period and a new Assassin. Brotherhood bummed me out and I skipped Revelations. Came back for AC3 and I liked it but not enough to fully bring me back and I haven't played one since. And that's my rambling uninteresting story of my relationship to Assassin's Creed.

Also I stopped playing Pokemon after gen 3 because the formula never changed.

I don't care about any of them unless they make a new one that's really good. Then I might check it out.

The idea of being excited about a game just because it has a certain name on it is really bizarre to me. Is the game good? That's all that matters.

I mean, yeah, the part where you don't actually handpick a team misses the mark pretty bad, and the fact that everybody just uses Dragonite and Vaporeon and Snorlax because they happen to have good stats and are somewhat easy to grind out is just a bizarre move.

I was obsessed with Final Fantasy from the original NES game through Tactics. FF8 just killed my enthusiasm. Which is too bad, because 9 was another high point that I wouldn't touch until much later.

I don't think the MMOs helped, either. They definitely killed my 'I must play them all' mentality when I came back.

I've become less interested in Assassins Creed but I'll still play a good one of those.

Call of Duty I completely fell away from.

Of the other series' listed that I'm not fussed on anymore I was never heavily into them to begin with. I thought Total War was going to lose me by making a Warhammer game but somehow they made a great one.

'Sony' ones that I grew up with I've lost interest in - Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy (I first played Sony era FFs, not Nintendo)

@ares42: they wreck the story with some of the worst writing of all time and that might've even been forgivable if multiplayer wasn't only about ladder which pushed everyone away. God, the amount of joy I had with SC1 + Brood War online with fastest maps and user map setting maps...

Civilisation for me. I played all of them up to Beyond Earth. I think 4 was the peak for me. 5 highlighted the fact that the AI had no idea how to play the game and then Beyond Earth bored me to death. I have no interest in getting 6. Grand Strategy are more my bag now.

JRPGs. My favorite genre for decades. Except for one or two standouts during the Wii/PS3/360 generation (Xenoblade Chronicles was the last one I actively enjoyed) they went completely to shit. Or I stopped enjoying them. I suspect a combination of the two.

Final Fantasy XV doesn't interest me in the least. If it gets a PC release and goes on sale for $10 a year or two down the line I might think about trying to relive the magic.

Mass Effect for me weirdly enough.
I loved Mass Effect 1 and 2. Never played 3 and not really looking forward to Andromeda. I don't know why.

Also: Zelda. Didn't care at all for the last 2, but the new one looks promising again I must say.

I think I'm over Final Fantasy. I had a great run with the first four games when I played them on iOS and then PSP but once I got up to Final Fantasy V my interest started waning fast. I think this is because FFV was the last of the sprite-based Final Fantasy games to have a remastered version and I did not like the original art all that much.

I fell out of Assassin's Creed after seeing how they butchered the Desmond storyline. I did buy Black Flag on launch for PS4 when people, even Jeff, praising it but never finished it. Did the same with AC: Syndicate and again on managed to play a few hours of it.

I would've also added God of War had the E3 announcement not brought me back in. I already gave up on God of War III but this one looks like it'll take the series to an interesting direction and I am keen to see where it leads.

From that list...Battlefield, I guess? I played a whole lot of Battlefield 1942 (Desert Combat & Vietnam) and sank plenty of hours into Battlefield 2 as well. Only ever briefly tried the SP campaigns in both 3&4, never touched the multiplayer and had no desire to. But this maybe has more to do with me not really playing online games in general these days.

I read the whole list and didn't want to vote for any of them. I'm close on AssCreed and CoD, but I also wouldn't write off a new game if people were really talking it up. I'm always open to new games. Perhaps some of these I wouldn't be as excited about as they used to be, but there's none that I'm flat-out done with.

Probably Elder Scrolls/ Fallout. Until they show some good faith effort to move their games forward in a meaningful way, I think I'm finished buying the big Bethesda games.

Fallout 4 was just sad.

I've found it pretty impossible to get back into Assassin's Creed after Brotherhood. I have like three of the more recent games which I've got for free, but have not had any inclination to play them. With Call of Duty I've gone from playing every iteration ferociously to playing a bit of around every third game they put out.

I was a huge Battlefield person back in the day. Can't even tell how many hours I spent playing the 1942 Wake multiplayer demo alone before I got the full game and then all the mods started rolling out.

These days I couldn really care less. They sort of stripped away a lot of the things that I personally enjoyed about the game and the move back into mundane WWI territory was like the final nail in the coffin that was already closed and gathering dust for years.

Halo, after Reach(which I hated so much) I gave 4 one last chance and found it dreadfully boring until the final chapter. I have 0 interest to play another Halo game again.

Runner up: Assassins Creed. Much like sports games, I only play one every 2-3 years rather than ever year.

I'm done with both Assassins Creed and Halo, to the point where I haven't been trying any AC since 3, and I won't be continuing Halo after 5. Both for similar reasons, I feel like the story/narrative in the games went to complete shit. I am a person who really likes my continuous story line that build upon the previous games, and both these series have thrown that out for various (bad) reasons. For AC, I was one of the few people who didn't really care about the past stuff, I was in the game for the Desmond/Real life problem story line, and the history stuff was just a set piece to further explore the present. Once they quickly and unceremoniously threw that out the window with AC3 (and also everything else about AC3, what a bad game) I was done with the series.

For Halo it was similar. I really enjoyed the story between 1 to 3, and even tolerated the new launch of 4, though it had some pacing issues and failed to explain some narrative stuff, especially about the big baddie. But that paled in comparison to the shit fest of a story that 5 was, explaining nothing about anything that happened since 4 and those Spartan Ops, and not even fucking blinking at the fact that they expect you to just deal with the fact more Spartans from Master Chiefs time. I know some of that stuff is in books/side media, but in my opinion if any game that requires you to watch/read outside information for a base understanding of the game's story then that game needs to fuck right off. Extra media for games should add to the games story, not be required to understand (looking at you, Kingsglaive)

So I'm done with those game series. I enjoy my narratives, and I don't have much spare time nor money so I'm not gonna waste it on games that don't appreciate my time.

P.S. I was also going to select Mass Effect, but I felt it might be premature. While I have no faith that Andromeda will be good, seeing Bioware's recent track record and how much I despised Dragon Age Inquisition, I still would love a ME game in the vein of 1 or 2, so I don't feel like I currently "don't care" about it. This answer will change one way or the other when Andromeda comes out finally and we see what the hell it is.

Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, The Sims and Final Fantasy are all things from my childhood that I've long since moved on from. I was done with AssCreed midway through Brotherhood. Valve is a husk of its former self and I've given up on them ever finishing the Half-Life saga.

Mass Effect, because of ME3 and the direction they seem to be taking the new one in (Wow! We're The Special. Again. Fighting an ill-defined and Ancient Evil. Again.)

Also, it's not on the list, but Dragon Age falls here too, for all the same reasons as Mass Effect.

Assassins Creed because Ubi pushed them out like so much shovel-ware and the quality drastically declined.

Gran Turismo. Played 2 a ton on the old PlayStation, but haven't had much to do with it since.

Used to love Pokemon, but I couldn't even muster the will to finish Sapphire. At this point only a full-blown 3D console Pokemon game could bring me back to Nintendo.

Call of Duty for sure but what I find with most series is that after I've played around two entires I usually take awhile in getting around to later entires. BioShock, Mass Effect, Batman, Gears, Assassin's Creed are all examples of that.

Assassin's Creed for sure. First game was a very profound experience for me and I'll still claim that it was truly the only Assassin's Creed game in that whole series. While not to bbe confused with "The best" in that series it is the most pure distillation of that concept. Later games just became a GTA version of AC.

For anyone who want to experience the real AC game I recommend playing the first game with all HUD elements taken off.

Dragon Age was a pretty big one for me. The first game had its flaws, but two was a garbage fire, and three was a single player mmo with mostly lazy quest design. (Pro-tip, no one plays an mmo because of the quest designs like of go collect X boar tusks.)

So despite playing them all to completion, I don't have much interest in the series going forward.

Kingdom Hearts. I love the original, 2, and the HD remakes of them. Birth By Sleep is a cool variation on the formula, and decent addition to the story. The rest of the games are trash.
