Hey guys,
Having recently played through a few of the older games in my collection I've noticed many titles don't stand up too well to the test of time. I'm curious to know if you could have a title, any title remade with today's game developement capabilities, what would you like to have remade?
My personal choice? System Shock 2. Having finished a playthrough of it after a fair time span has passed, graphically it's certainly starting to show its age. Even with texture and graphics enhancement mods they can only improve it by so much. The audio logs and the voices of the hybrids for the most part are still pretty damn good for an eleven-year-old game, although there are some instances that really make me wince, like just about every ghost you encounter. The combat is definately much more sluggish by today's standards, it would be great to see the speed ramped up to where your reflexes really count in those melee battles.
Don't take my criticisms the wrong way. I love this game. Those who have any kind of PC or laptop, dinosaur or not should certainly check it out. Infact, you'll probably have an easier time getting it running flawlessly on an older machine. I can't help thinking how incredible this game would be developed with todays development tech and a dev team able to devote to time to polish it up good. One can dream.
Oh well, there's always Dead Space and Bioshock. They'll have to do for now.
So guys, what's your choice?
Which video game would you have remade?
LBA 2 but I dont think it would hold up by todays standards so ill go with Neverwinter Nights because I want some more NWN.
A few years ago I would've said the Monkey Island series but since that dream is coming true I'd probably go with King's Quest. Oooo, or maybe Quest for Glory.
All the 2D Metroid games. Update them with detailed 3D graphics (or, even better, Vanillaware-style hand-drawn 2D) and Shadow Complex-style aiming, and release them on Xbox Live and PSN.
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Update the graphics, tweak the combat (make dodging a one-button deal, like in the 2D Castlevanias, and make it so both blocking and dodging instantly cancels whatever you're doing) and the camera, change up the enemies and their patterns, and add some more secret locations. Oh, and add five more areas to explore. At that point it'd be more of a reimagining than a remake, but hey, it's for the best.
Odin Sphere. Update it with Muramasa: The Demon Blade's combat system. It'd be one of the best games -- if not the best game -- of all time.
Resident Evil 5. Make it so you can revive Sheva Gears of War-style, or even better, completely remove her from the single player campaign. Replace the crappy inventory with the one from Resident Evil 4. Oh, and put it on the Wii, with RE4: Wii Edition controls.
Final Fantasy 6. It's perfect because it'll allow the dev team to get creative with the environments in 3D seeing as we only know the game from a 2D isometric view, the combat is ATB so they might be able to do something like FF13 (but with all characters controlled, yet slower paced fights), and they could really make it feel huge because I feel that 6 is the most "epic" Final Fantasy.
I would like a remade final fantasy 8, metal gear 1 and 2 could also do with being brought to metal gear 4 standard.
GTA Vice City with updated graphics and the same physics engine as GTA IV. Other remakes that I have in mind would be Conker's Bad Fur Day. That would be sweet.
I'd love to see Phantasy Star 3, narrative and all, brought into the modern age with a more robust story, side quests, voice acting, and more characterization. It was one of the greatest RPGs ever.

"This, but also I know its already been done but I'd like to see a truly good remake of Bionic Commando. I just found the new design of Rad Spencer just horrible and they could have re-worked the story in a much better fashion. I wouldn't mind also seeing a remake of the old SEGA game "Streets of Rage" but then again Im already content with action games like Ninja Gaiden. :D
" @weegieanawrench: Conker's Bad Fur Day has already been remade - http://www.giantbomb.com/conker-live-reloaded/61-7353/ "
heh you beat me to it. maybe they could re-make the remake.
Final Fight - Just like to see it get the 2.5D treatment
Mario RPG
Double Dragon - Same as Final Fight. Online Co-op too.
Morrowind
Rygar- Like Bionic Commando: Rearmed
@AlwaysAngry: Why do you keep posting in this thread, then? Game remakes are usually pretty great, like the Gold/Silver remakes, the Bionic Commando: Rearmed game, and even Klonoa to some extent.
@Clinkz: If you've played the first 10 minutes of Nuts and Bolts you know why that wouldn't work in this day and age. Platformers are dead, but platformers modelled after Super Mario 64; a 14 year old game, are.
The remakes that I'd like to see would be probably Strider, Freespace 2, and even though it'S mad recent, an update to Vice City would rock.
With remakes, we can play the games we already have, except we get to spend money on them again!
" Sounds crazy, but someone needs to remake SC with the same stats as they originally had. SC2 is alright, but it's not fully the same and it would be sweet to go back to old stats. "Starcraft?
Soul Calibur?
Super Contra?
Super Columns?
Sly Cooper?
Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve's Racing?
So many SCs, so little time.
We need a new Sly Cooper game though. Infamous was meh compared to Sly.
I don't know what remakes you've been playing, but the ones I've played have usually been substantially improved versions of older games. If it's just the same game, it's not a remake. It's a port." @XII_Sniper: i know rite!!1 With remakes, we can play the games we already have, except we get to spend money on them again! "
" @VanderSEXXX: Dude whaaaat, Bionic Commando: Rearmed is like the perfect remake. And yeah, I'd love a new Streets of Rage, but the 16-bit graphics kinda made the game awesome, so i'd just keep 'em like that, or maybe upgrade them to Neo-Geo level graphics.

I've played Nuts and Bolts... uh its not a platformer, bro. Have you played Super Mario Galaxy? Platformers still work with innovation.
