The video game industry is somewhat unique in the way that us fans can, in a way, get to know a lot of the important people that keep this machine moving. Whether it be through podcasts, blogs, interviews, Facebook, Twitter or all the different types of videos and ways they interact with their respective communities, we stumble upon some dudes who we just think are generally cool. Smart, funny, interesting or thought provoking, just people that give us good insight into the world of video games. We may even follow their career closely. I know I'm not the only one who migrated here from Gamespot in early 2008, and I know a good portion of Respawn Entertainment's first game sales will come from the people who know "this is by the COD4 dudes."

They are afterall, living our dreams, are they not? They do video game stuff and get paid for it.

A developer? Hideo Kojima, CliffyB, Greg Kasavin?

A journalist? Patrick Klepek, Garnett Lee, N'gai Croal?

A PR dude? Phil Harrison, John Vignocchi, J Allard?

Me? Jeff Gerstmann. I'm sure that will be a popular response given this is Giant Bomb but hey, ya know, that's why I'm here. Hilarious, articulates his thoughts well without using big dumb words (though he can [?] ), and I always seem to share similar opinions on games so I always pay attention to his reviews.

My favorite personalities can be found here on Giant Bomb, though I have to say I do like to hear Adam Sessler rant for some reason.

I saw some of his stuff and I'm not a fan. I decided to watch E.T., and left when I could clearly see emulator stuff. So then who's my favorite? Does Seanbaby still count? If yes, then him; if no, then the Giant Bomb collective.

Ryan Davis (for being so delightfully likeable),
Jeff Gerrstman (for having a goddamn bold opinion and not letting down--Twilight Princess, anyone?),
Jeff Cannata (for sharing all my views on everything, and being a great guy) , and
Greg Kasavin (for being the lordthing of all role-playing reviews, my favourite genre).

Besides the GB crew, I like Justin McElroy, Geoff Keighley, and most of the Talk Radar staff. For developers, Tim Schafer is always a riot, but also Gabe Newell and John Carmack for their insights into the industry. As for PR/ executives: Reggie Fils-Aime.

GB crew, Shawn Elliot, Jeff Green, Robert Ashley, Gabe Newell, John Carmack. Even though I study PR and might get in to games PR I don't really see anyone as awesome. I mean, it's more behind the scenes. I'd have to say Valves PR-team in that case, they're probably among the best in the world at what they do.

  • Peter Molyneux ~ Yeah, he's full of shit most of the time, but I love listening to him talk.  He's very enthusiastic and he makes me want to believe.   Like a shuckster peddlin' snake oil, I fall for his line of hogwash most of the time.  Afterwards, I come to my senses again, but while he's talking I am totally into whatever nonsense he is pushing.
  • Jeff Green & Garnett Lee ~ Rather different guys from the gaming press, but both are people I connect with when I hear them via podcasts.  Part of it is their comparative ages to myself, but also I like their senses of humor.  They keep shows interesting.
  • Peter Moore ~ His interviews are always interesting and as far as corporate suits go, he's the most personable.  Besides, he's usually the best personality on stage at any E3 press conference.
  • Leigh Alexander ~ Well, her blog, Sexy VideogameLand is pretty good but what I really love about her is that whenever she appears on Giant Bomb, it sends the membership into a foamy rage.   Much hilarity ensues.
  • Others worth mentioning are Dan "Shoe" Hsu of Bitmob, Bioware doctors Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, Shane Bettenhausen, Ryan "Surly" DavisPaul Barnett and Cammie Dunaway (so awkward it's cute).

Just my opinion bud.

Yeah there was a point when he couldn't record video footage so got other people to get the parts he wanted to show, he went into it in one of his Q&A videos. For me it's how passionate he gets about games and everything he says feels very honest, even if I don't agree with him. I enjoyed his Final Fantasy reviews, SWAT 4 playthrough and most recently he went through the Ultima games. Maybe have a look at those but hey everyone likes different things.

Lots of the people already mentioned.

Also, I will say Randy Pitchford. The guy just seems so cheerful and enthusiastic about everything, it reminds me a bit of Vinny. Plus the guy used to perform as a magician.

My favorite developers include Randy Pitchford and Ed Boon.
Something about them wants me to buy their games on command.
Given that this is in fact Giant Bomb, I am going to exclude the obvious and I am going to say Michael Pachter is pretty cool. He may not always be right, but no one ever is.

WHAT.  That makes so much sense now.  He's absolutely the kind of person that would be a performing magician.  He's not actually charismatic, it's just an illusion man.

Developers: I am a fan Gabe Newell, and I enjoyed the cast on the Bungie Podcast back when there were Bungie Podcasts (especially Marty O'Donnell).
Journalist (or enthusiast press, whatever they want to be called): I like the GB crew,  Arthur Gies and Anthony Gallegos of Rebel FM, and now IGN, as well as Charles Onyett of IGN.
As for PR: I don't really know of anyone notable in PR that I've heard much from. I do however hear good things about J Allard, so I guess J by association.
