Why did no reviewer mention that Mass Effect 2's story sucks?

I just beat the suicide mission and was left wondering "that's it?" Seriously, there was no story to that game. Ok, a bit hyperbolic, but the payoff at the end was nowhere near sufficient.

If you look at it from a distance the story is pretty thin. I found the last mission a little bit of a let down also. It could be the fact they spent the whole game building up to it. I didnt like that much either.

When the world of video games still thinks that "PRINCESS PEACH HAS BEEN CAPTURED GO SAVE HER FROM THE TURTLE DRAGON" is a passable story, anything anywhere close to the quality of Mass Effect 2's story is far beyond passable.

I am guessing they don't say that because they don't think it sucks. Why do you say there was no story in the game ?.

Because reviewers dont lie.

Anyway, the second entries in trilogies are usually the thinnest plotwise, they are all action, no rising or resolution.

"Don't know but probably because it's a trilogy.  It just goes back to Die Hard. Die Hard=Good Die Hard 2=OkDie Hard 3=Good(Samuel L. Jackson) So what I'm saying is that the Mass Effect 3 story is going to possibly blow your mind. "

That isn't really an accurate example as those three stories aren't really interconnected into one long story arc, they just happen to revolve around the same hero. Better examples would be Star Wars or LotR. Unfortunately the best films in those trilogies were the second, which goes against your the argument.

And I yes, the main story wasn't that great, and the final sequence was a little bit meh, but the all the narrative elements (characters, loyalty quests) worked really well. It did it's job of moving the story forward and setting up for a huge finish

The story itself is fine. I'm not sure what kinda story you were expecting in a video game. Think about the other RPG's and shooters out there today.
Modern Warfare 2: Action Movie
Halo: Slightly interesting
Dragon Age: Also slightly interesting

Anyways, my point is that, to an extent, every story has been told a hundred times. I question people who want mind-blowing video game stories and usually they cannot name one recent good one. It's not what the story is, but how it is told and ME2 uses terrific, believable voice acting and fleshed-out characters to tell a pretty good story in the first place. The story also branches out in different paths through the recruitment missions and those are pretty dang good too.

The overall journey and expansion of the universe is also part of the story, not just the endgame results. There's a wealth of substance to Mass Effect 2's narrative in my opinion, even if you take it as a standalone product and not simply the middle part of a trilogy.
