why i think sony will DOMINATE next gen

I make no allusions to the fact that I am a Sony fanboy, that I harbor overly fond memories of the PS2 that border on the nostalgic; nay I am forthright that my vision of the coming generation may in fact be clouded by my love of SSSSOOOOONNYYYYYYYYYY :3

But with the mistakes Microsoft has made, I cannot help but feel confident and giddy!

1. xbox one is 100 dollars more than PS3, and equally as powerful
2. xbox one is being advertised as a multimedia box first, gaming console second
3. developers have had more time with ps4 final dev kits than xbox one's
4. sony has a pause/resume button for ease of access
5. sony has a chipset designed to download in the background while playing
6. SONY IS 100 DOLLARS CHEAPER

I hope they both do well. Why do all the fanboys want one of the systems to fail? More competition means a healthier gaming landscape.

We'll see if you're so smug when the Dreamcast 2 is unveiled at TGS.

Two of your points are basically the same (1,6), and some of them are inaccurate (4,5 same features are on Xbox One) or largely irrelevant (3 will possibly factor in a bit at launch but be moot soon after).

I'm glad that you're a fan of Sony and that you're happy with what they're offering you with the PS4, but the competitive nature of fanboyism really accomplishes nothing. The video game industry is healthier with multiple strong competing platforms.

I agree with your thesis but your points do need some work. The price difference is absolutely the biggest reason why Sony will get 2/3 boxes sold during the first 18 months. @chaser324 is right about the other points being irrelevant though. The 360 can download games in the background as can the PS3, the only factor that affects that is whether or not the system is using network connection in the game your playing. The pause/resume button is a cool idea but in no way is it a system seller. The reason why Sony could lose in the long run is that they have a history of not being able to innovate and update the console to meet needs of their consumers. So that means that they will probably win the short term sales race but the war for the generation hasn't even started.

The closer it gets to the launch of next gen consoles the less I care about next gen consoles. Besides Watchdogs nothing else interests from what has been shown so far. Might just stick to the PC unless something crazy gets revealed at some point.

Yep, and when your ultimate dream comes to reality, ms and nintendo will drop out of the race and leave sony to do whatever it wants, leading to jacked up prices, poor service and lack of creativity. But hey what else are you gonna do, it's not like there's any other console to play out there....

I reckon if the PS4 sells super well at the beginning it will probably 'dominate' the xbox one in a couple of years. I am basing this on the PS3 outselling the Xbox 360 year on year since the PS3 was first sold. (The only reason the 360 has sold 'more' units overall is 'cause it came out a year earlier) (E: Seems like the total sales figures have equalled one another)

I'm still pulling for the Sega Genesis.

1.Genesis is hundreds of dollars cheaper

2.XOne&PS4 are being advertised as multimedia boxes first, gaming consoles second

3.Developers have had WAY more time with Genesis kits than either the Xbox One or PS4

4.Genesis is keeping it simple with a single start button

5. Sega has a CD add on! Enabling you to not only play music but also CD+G!!

Some of us are old enough to remember when one console did dominate the market. The Atari 2600. And how did that turn out?

After the Xbox One got its head out of its ass with the always online shenanigan, both consoles look solid. I'm just more interested in the PS4 Launch line up.

That being said. PC Master Race and all that jazz. It's my system of choice. :B

2. That's not necessarily a bad thing? Everyone who has played a video game in the last ten years will know Xbox is a video game console, they want to lure people who wouldn't buy a console like that in the first place so it makes sense why they're going the multimedia angle.

I'm getting a PS4 and no intentions on getting the X-One. That said, I hope they both do good. It's a win/win for everyone.

DOMINATE is unlikely but I wouldn't be surprised at a 60/40 or even 65/35 market swing away from the present 50/50.

Also, Sony will dominate 2 out of 3 markets - at least for Phase 1 (launch & the first year). For that matter, is there even a significant homeconsole market in Japan anymore? I guess Microsoft will lose some marketshare to Sony in the US too, but I don't think it will go beyond them sharing equal marketshare.

Let's say Phase 2 starts with Black Friday 2014, at that point it's really anybody's guess again. Will Kinect 2.0 prove itself in the market? Will casual gamers latch on to it? Will core gamers embrace it? Will Sony's online experience be competitive with Microsoft's? Does the PS4 noticeably outperform Xbox One in multiplatform games? How's the games line-up going to be? And so forth.

At least in the US, the game for Phase 1 is still afoot. I don't think Microsoft has a shot to win marketshare in Europe and Japan. The UK might be more open to Xbox One than the rest of the EU, but overall there's just no win here in Phase 1. Sony's bound to dominate these markets. Even if Microsoft delivers a kick-ass product and customer experience, it will be an uphill battle here - especially in the lower income countries.

I just think Microsoft is a mess. The One seems like a product of a very disjointed corporate culture. The key features of Kinect and TV integration do nothing for me, and their initial vision for what "next gen" meant just came across as bad news.

Sony is just making a better gaming platform than their last one. Which is what I want.

The reaction to that by Microsoft has done a lot to shore up the bullet point comparisons, but makes their original plans even more insidious. I don't feel like Microsoft wants to be fair with me as a consumer. They seem to view gamers as useful idiots and open wallets. Which may be true, but it's awfully arrogant to tell your idiot that he's an idiot. Sony at least makes me feel good about supporting them his generation.

I think that, since MS is in the worst position of the two, they will see that their console isn't selling as well as they hoped and will react accordingly to make the system more tempting to gamers. Sony did this with the PS3.

Although I do want the X1 to do well. I want them all to do well.

Personally I've kind of stopped caring about who wins whatever console war. Both will end up doing fine and I'll just get whichever one has the games I'm more interested in when they are cheaper.
