IGN, 1UP and GS are giants of gaming industry working for than a decade now and its not easy competing with them but do you guys see GB on that level in say next 2-3 years where it'll be regarded as a well reputed site in gaming community? I think GB has longway to go but it has all the potential provided it continues moving in the right direction with the right staff and delivers what gamers really want!

Well, this site certainly has the reviewing talent - that's probably the most important thing.

First of all, they need to streamline the mainpage, make it more intuitive.

Also right now the forum is seriously cluttered, they need to streamline that as well.

They obviously will, it just takes time.

agreed.

GBis unique in that the faces behind the text are well known. I mean, the Gerstmanngate thing was huge. So I think that this website has full-on potential right out of the gate.

This site is still in beta, and even for a beta I would say its doing pretty well. If we can keep the momentum up this site will be there in no time.

I don't think it will ever compete with absolute giants such as IGN, but I really like the somewhat close-knit status of this website at the moment.

yeah. It will easily pass GS I think. Quite a few around GB are GS people. It also helps to have the likes of Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny around.

To be honest, they just need to clean the forum up a bit and I could see it happening.

This, as far as I can see, is a site for people who love games, rather than a news site. So I'm not sure it will be directly in competition with the bigger gaming sites.

I would compare this site to something like GameFAQs, or UVL or Mobygames. Hopefully taking the best bits of those and building a community around it.

Giantbomb has a pretty talented staff so they'll probably be as big as those other sites. Just not anytime soon.

Over time it could easily compete with the big guns, as Henjin said this is still the beta and is only the first day of it. So far so good.

When the problems are fixed and the site launched offically, who knows where it will end up.

In a year or two they should be on the level of Destructoid, Joystiq and Kotaku type blogging/gaming site.

No. They need to get out reviews quicker. They don't review as much and what they do review it up a week after the game is released.

Giant Bomb needs a bigger staff pretty much.

I have enough confidence in Giant Bomb.  It is being ran by several renowned critics, who already have established a name for themselves.  As long as they build a strong set of forums, I can see this site thrive.

I think this site can compete with the others, just not right now as many of you already pointed out.  Also, I think other sites will eventually adopt the database formula that GB uses.

I think they could. It depends on a number of things, but it's certainly got the potential to catch on. It just depends on how much money they have available, who else they will be able to attract to join the editorial team, and how much word of mouth spreads about the site. For now Giant Bomb is the little website that could, but I could totally see it being the next IGN or GameSpot.

Jeff, Vinny, Brad, and Ryan are totally competent. They have the ability to make innovative decisions that will please the community and better the industry. Although this site may have it's problems, it is still in in infancy. Give the guys some time, and everything will come around.

Don't forget the people that write for this are old Gamespot employees and all that jazz, they will have this all ironed out.  This site is not definite, its merely an open beta.

I don't think it really matters if they ever compete with the big players or not. As long as they are satisfying their users (us), does it really matter? Of course recognition is nice for the people who put in the hours but it might as well be superfluous if it adds towards the degradation of any "ethics" GB is seen to have today. Keeping the core happy is key I think.

I believe that it is possible, but its also not Giant Bombs goal to compete with sites like that... Its goal is to create a kick ass community. Which i can see them easily achieving already.

I don't think the point of GB is to emulate IGN, 1UP, and GS.

I like to think of GB as the pub down the road where you hang out and have a good time with your friends and you get to know everyone there.  While the others are more like those giant dance clubs where you don't know anyone, the staff is constantly changing, and you get molested once a week.

I think this already excels over those sites. In terms of vision and content it's so much deeper than any one of those sites. This rabbit hole can go on for miles, IF we let it...

Right now? No

The site layout and colors is just horrible in my opinion. Gamespot still has the best forums layout.
Plus, I hate the 5 star review system.

This site could potentially become a big online video game wiki resource but for now it's too early to say it will become as big as IGN or Gamespot. If you check Alexa it shows that Both sites are like ranked in the top 200 websites on earth. GB is like 30,000 which is good, but not quite huge. Time will tell.

I think, like anything, time will tell. Already this site has an amazing review crew, and I have visited 1up, ign, gamespot, and it seems to me that Giant Bomb is more focused on a community site where gamers can share their opinion. Gamespot has evolved over the years and now are a major staple on the internet for games...I think Giant bomb will eventually reach that status. GO GIANT BOMB!

The site is still in beta so there is time until we see the finished thing but Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinnie are so much funnier and in pretty much every way better than the editorial staff at any of those other sites that for me they have already won.

In the sense of community then probably. Considering most members here are already from GS its already snagged itself a part of the community pie.

Reliable and up-to-date information on the other hand? Well only time will tell.

Although it's still quite early in development, I feel it does have what it takes to compete with other gaming publications. The Community aspect is a strong feature that many other sites don't really fully develop.
