I always imagined we would enter into a phase of "on demand" gaming. Kinda like OnLive, but people actually buy into it.

PC...SNES, Genesis, PSX, PS2, heck it can even play Wii games (1920x1080 with 4xSSAA at that :D). All of the official releases. PS3 and 360 emulators in a few years as well.

It will be called an 'emulator' and people will load games and laugh at how lame they are, calling SF4 a button masher and Modern Warfare 2 too slow.

There was a time I never thought I would have played a Sonic game on a Nintendo console. And just over a decade ago, if you told me I would be able to play Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie on a Microsoft console I would have called you a moron.

Anyone who says no isn't taking the long view. Give it enough time, and absolutely there will be some kind of machine that plays all current games.

Only when humanity is wiped out and aliens make a historical archive of our achievements.

Sure, in 10 years you'll probably be able to play a handful of 360 and PS3 games, barely.  There will be at least another generation of consoles by then too.  The key word here being current.

Agreed.  Duck Duck Goose in real life is like a murder simulator.  It's much safer playing it on PC.

No, then there would be no competitive market and it would collapse.

Wouldn't that defeat the point of American capitalism?
