Worst box art ever?
I'm not posting pictures, but check the NA boxart for ICO. Then go look at the Japanese boxart. Why couldn' t we have the Japanese boxart?
I actually agree that the boxart isn't that great.
And before you start flaming, I'm interested in the game.
I think the boxart is alright. I like the concept anyway but they could've done it a bit better.
I'm much more interested in the content though.
" Sorry if you disagree but I don't think it is a good represention of the game I'm sorry... "How is it not a good representation of the game? It has a cool pulp comic book style vibe to it (the font especially), it has a creepy looking stylized dude mock-shooting himself in the head, it's incredibly colorful and unique, and it has dudes riding in Mad Max style cars shooting the hell out of each other, just like in the game. What more do you think it could do?
Heres how it went down.
Capcom Marketing Guy: Hey, I need you to whip up some box artwork for a new state-of-the-art high-resolution Game Pak we’ve got. It’s called Mega Man.
Artist: What’s it about?
Capcom Marketing Guy: Beats me, some guy who’s like ... this man with ... mega powers, I guess. He’s like Superman I think, but he wears blue armor and has this arm cannon thing.
Artist: OK, well, I’ll just draw a picture of a syphilitic old man wearing blue and yellow armor because I really like the color yellow. Also, instead of armor, I’ll just give him a futuristic t-shirt with extra long sleeves that bunch up near the shoulders and elbows. I don’t know what an "arm cannon" is, so I’ll just give him a ray gun pistol and have him hold it at this really awkward angle. Oh, and I’ll put this white burst of light behind his prominently exposed crotch and have him standing in a field of giant colored contact lenses…
Capcom Marketing Guy:(interrupting) Yeah sure, do all that, and add like a futuristic Tron Tic-Tac-Toe thing in the background while you’re at it. OK, gotta go, bye!
I don't like the background, maybe if they took that out and replaced it with those bandit-dudes riding on that vehicle it would look better.
The colors don't integrate that well, the guy on the front looks stupid, I'd have preferred that desert scene...
Just my opinion by the way, but at least I say why I like/don't like it unlike:
"BEST box art ever. What don't you like about it?" (Unless you're being sarcastic, I can't tell)
So, why do you guys think it's good?
My "best box art ever" was a bit of an exaggeration, but I do really like it. I love the new art style of Borderlands, and the box art highlights that immediately with the high contrast, colorful, cell shaded look. What I've seen of Borderlands' promo material, especially the trailers and Clap Trap promo vids, makes it seem like the style is very over the top and in your face, not afraid to be a little controversial. The masked bandit dude miming a gun to his head and the brain splatter cloud certainly conveys that well. It also seems to work on many levels. If I recall correctly, there are suicide bombers who charge at you. There's a level. There's the fact that you'll be shooting at them throughout the game. There's a level. There's also the more abstract level, as in "this game will BLOW YOUR MIND". etc etc.
In those ways, I thought it was a great representation of what Borderlands is. Or, at least, what it's supposed to be. Gotta wait another week till we know for sure :-)
"fucking amazing boxart. really.
yep, that boxart is, in fact, very shitty. You know what had better boxart?
I not sure how to explain it but if I went to game stop with 60$ and said "I am going to judge a game souly on it box art" (Which I have before I picked Red Faction:Guerilla over Section 8. I thought i made a good choice) I would not chose this game. but since I have followed Borderlands I do know something about I can look past the box art.
I'm trying to think of some good boxart and all I can think of are special editions like the Halo 2 steelbox.
