nope we used to have it . And it got abused by trolls .
would you like a ratings of comments system on giantbomb?
Definitely not. We used to have one, but the Flag/Karma system works a lot better in terms of alerting mods to rule-breakers. That, and +1s mean nothing.
I mean a +1 -1 next to the comment as on youtube.
I think this might improve the forums as if someone makes a troll-like comment you can let them know without getting into a flame war with them. What do you reckon? Sorry if this has been brought up somewhere else mods...
obviously I'm thinking if alot of people care and vote then maybe the sitebuilders will look at it. Democracy woo!
If it was made like urbandictionary.com, where both positive and negative votes are counted, rather then one score overall, then yes. I would prefer a system that would allow us to favorite comments we really like and save it on a "favorite comments" page where we could go back and look through all of them.
We used to have one, but it was supposed to be a moderation tool. It didn't work very well. Also, in general I just find that they unnecessarily undermine someone's opinion just because it's unpopular. Why disagree with you in an intelligent way when I can just minus one you and make your argument seem less credible?

"I don't think it works.
As has already been said, people -1 anything they personally don't agree with, no matter how fair or balanced their arguement/post might be. Just take a look at the Joystiq or Eurogamer comments sections.. if it's a Nintendo topic, every pro Nintendo comment gets a +1 and every thing even slightly against Nintendo gets -1.. Same with Xbox, Halo, Playstation or whatever. And then you have a system like Kotaku's where only "star commenters" appear, which is typically only people who have posted something deemed amusing, meaning that many of the intelligent comments are completely ignored.
I really haven't seen a single ranking system that I think works well.
" We used to have a +/- ratings system and it was abused. People would give a minus vote to anything they disagreed with, whether it was a trolling comment or not. If you see a troll comment, simply flag it and myself or one of the other moderators will deal with it. "There was one dude who just had to post anything and quickly amassed -50. I can't remember his name, but it made a mockery of what it was supposed to do.

Ratings serve no other benefit than stroking the egos of other poster. There are plenty of other ways to do that. My favorite is actually replying to a post, that way they know I took the time to read what they wrote. That's really the biggest compliment of all, I think.
My god man, you are right. I just had to look ^-^" @oldschool said:

Whatever happened happened to him?
Edit: The extra happened was a typo, but in a way, still works, as he brought the derision upon himself.
" @EvilTwin said:Now all you need to do is sync up your gamertag so I can know everything about you too. *insert evil laugh*" @oldschool: According to his activity feed, he hasn't posted in about 5 months, but he has been playing a lot of the Orange Box in the past few days. Giantbomb makes it so easy to be an internet stalker! "I feel dirty just talking to you now xD "
