So what you are saying is, do I want to play as a human being? Don't know about that like.
Would you play a game with an openly homosexual protagonist?
As long as the character's story is structured well and makes sense sure. I have nothing against those that are gay, but I would avoid a stupid game with a Gay protagonist or a game that makes him unrealistically flamboyant. Just for reference, however, I wouldn't play a game with a straight guy/girl that wasn't well crafted or they were over-the-top male or feminine.
Games sharply focusing on a character's sexuality is not strictly adherent to gay characters. Look at the Duke Nukem franchise. That argument shouldn't even come up in a debate such as this.
Great stories with gay characters deal with their homosexuality just like if they were straight; as "yeah, he's gay. so what". Look at The Wire with Omar Little:
Sure? I dunno, I would like to see more gays in games. Doesn't have to be the main character, personally I prefer my maincharacters to either A) not have a sexuality or B) be able to pick it myself. That way I don't end up with romantic interests like fucking Ashley. Damn you Bioware, why did you make the racist bitch the suggested romance?
Also, it has to not be offensive. That should go without saying, but I don't want to see a gay treated like a women in an Eastern developed game, any more than I want to see a women treated the way they are treated in eastern games.

Or a sequel to Bayonetta starring a flamboyantly gay man, that would be fucking incredible.
... That would be pretty awesome, potentially.
@Vinny_Says: That thing that is ending in about 19 days...?
If it makes sense.
In regular games, the characters don't make a big deal of being straight heterosexuals: they flirt where it makes sense, but they don't go about dry humping everything. A non flamboyant gay character should be easy enough to portray, but a flamboyant gay characters requires a lot more attention and control over what he actually does. Too much and it's stupid and/or offensive, too little and it's just a token gay character.
Sure why not, gay characters dont have to be defined by the single trait, people arent that simple
Also Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood is one of the baddest Mo'Fo's out there and he is openly gay

ive played a game where i was surrounded by openly homosexual characters (dragon age 2) not a single male character in that game wasnt gay.
everyone was bi in that game and well, that was poor IMO.
EDIT: OK, not really poor but extreamly odd. some 'definition' in characters would be great.
Sure, why not? Well, I suppose the character could be so flamboyantly gay that it could become annoying.
@Dany:
Yeah, but bi-sexuality has been the norm in real life history for some countries. Also Varric, Sebastian and Aveline were straight.
who plays a game and thinks "hmmmm i wonder who this character likes to have sex with?"exactly. like shit, the dude you play as in COD (or multiple dudes for that matter) could all be gay as hell but who would know, or care? it doesnt seem relevant in the context of the game
Any character with an overbearing sexuality can be annoying regardless of orientation. Duke Nukem comes to mind particularly.
But yes I'm always pleased to see gay characters in games especially the subtle ones like Captain De Santa from Red Dead Redemption.
If it contextually makes sense, instead of "o guys btw Dumbledore's gay", hell yeah I'd play the game if it was fun.
I will play literally anything I think is good. Asking me if I would play a game starring a gay man or woman is like asking me if I would play a game that starred a British man who more-likely-than-not would love to have a good cup of tea. If it works, do it. If the game's only trick is "He is gay! Get it?" I will not care too much. I don't want it to be something annoying like "It is Bulletstorm, but instead of ridiculous cursing it is just a lot of dick jokes from a pair of gay dudes."
Make a good game with a homosexual star, and a bad game with a heterosexual star. Do it. My choice is easy that way.
Sounds dumb and contrive if the protagonist is openly gay or flamboyant. So, while I don't care about an artificial beings sexuality, a game that advertises that as an aspect of itself would probably be pretty shitty.
@CaptainCody: So, if one of the main selling points on the back of the box was "PLAY A GAY CHARACTER!" It would probably suck. And you're probably right if there's nothing else worthwhile on the back. What if, however, you were given the option to have a homosexual character, or a sudden reveal at the end of a game?
As said, I don't care if someones gay. Yet, in the context of a games BIG REVEAL being a dude admitting he's gay? That'd be pretty shitty, if you want to storyboard me a game in which that would work then by all means, as to the first point: you can already be gay in some games, but I'm not gay, so I'm not going to play as a gay character when I can be straight.

Well I wrote a whole post about how I could understand the use of an openly gay character who isn't flamboyant, as a large majority of gay men are...
Really? Large majority? I assume you took a poll?
All you know of gay men is what you see on TV and in movies most likely. How do you know some random dude who doesn't "act gay" isn't openly gay? Guess what, you don't.
Stop making assumptions.
If it would be like any other action or adventure type game only with the character being gay? Sure, now if it was some kind of dating game or something liek that then no only because i'm not gay and I am not interested in that kind of romance storyline, albeit that I watch Degrassi and they have gay characters on there, it's not the main focus. It would be very tricky on how they would have to do it in order for the character's homosexuality to stand out and yet not have it be a huge slap in the face diverting me from the games main story. It would be the same to me if it were a game with a lesbian main character or a character that was racist ect. As long as the main point of the game was not: Make out with this guy, make out with this girl, commit this hate crom ect. It would be all good with me. The only other reason I could see anyone not wanting to play a good game with a gay protagonist is if they had a big case of homophobia.
Besides it's not like there aren't already plenty of games, shows and movies where there are two striaght main characters that get made out to be gay (Gears of war, street fighter, naruto) So in short yes, if it was good, or if they made it interesting enough. Now if we are talking Medal gear solid 4 style kind of game where it is almost completely story based and full of cutscenes, then it would have to be a pretty good story and not romance (At least not the main point like Catherine or something) nothing against gays it just wouldn't be my kind of game. Hope I didn't offend anyone with this.
