Has anyone tried Xbox’s new app and streaming games from their Xbox? Is this how Xbox will get xCloud on iOS? Why does this seem under covered? So many questions.

The app update overall is a huge step backwards from what the app used to be. They stripped out nearly all functions - you can’t even check your achievements on it anymore.

As far as the iOS xCloud integration it is currently a mere workaround. Unlike Android where you connect to the xCloud servers, on iOS you are mirroring your Xbox to your iOS device. Hopefully with time they can actually make this work as intended but for now it’s a foot in the door.

It’s just too bad the app is almost pointless now for anything else. I remember two years ago or so when I switched to XB1X I was impressed by the great apps they had integrating your console with your PC. Compared to the PlayStation app it was night and day. Now Xbox is once again taking huge steps backwards for some reason. On PC the companion app has been replaced by the Game Pass app which doesn’t feature the activity feed, achievements or playtime milestones along with a ton of other smaller but useful features. Not sure what’s goin on at Microsoft or what the end goal is but so far it’s been a pretty negative experience.

@humanity: thanks, yeah leave it to Microsoft to ruin a perfectly good app. I bet this get another update soon to add some profile stuff back in. I am not surprised that they used this as a back door after Phil Spencer came out and said that they would be on iOS. Still seems like weird radio silence though from the industry. Did they cover it on the Bombcast?

Every thing on the Windows App Store is weird and broken in some way. Games tell you to launch the Xbox App, which is now actually the Game Pass app, to for instance, join a Forza club, but boots to the Console Companion App (not even Forza's own Companion App), which says its discontinued go launch the Game Pass App.

There is also a Beta channel still going for the soon to be discontinued one, so when you see that against a just plain Xbox app, you'd assume Console Companion (Beta) was the new one coming soon.

This has just been frustrating for me because the new thing doesn't have your screenshots or videos. And they must have turned off a bunch of servers for said captures due to the "Sunsetting" because the videos are un-stream-able and take 45 minutes each to download (after a Mac style loading circle over blankness for a minute)

Add that to the fact that the Windows Store always hangs on updates at 3Kb, and shows updates in the wrong order, and often will give you a different list of apps that need updating each time you press refresh, and lets you start a simultaneous update/download manually of something already in process with Auto Update.

It sucks. Rebuild the dang store! You've got a better gaming service than Apple, but your version of an app store is HP Touchpad Blackberry Playbook bad.
