So I got my copy of L.A. Noire delivered from Amazon and went to pop it into my PS3 and whaddda know, ylod.  This was my bc 60 gig model, that I bought used off of Ebay. It had been repaired previously by Sony.  Luckily I kept the box Sony shipped to the original purchaser than to me, so I'm set to ship it.  I'm going to try out GopherMods as most of the reviews have been positive.

A copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine is in the drive, but the site assures all will be well.  Incidentally, 3 out of 5 Ryan?  A 4 out of 5 would be a better score imo.

So anyway I pulled my original non-bc PS3 from my bedroom, and played L.A. Noire for about an hour.  I like the atmosphere so far, and wish I had more time to sink into it this week, but will be hitting the road tomorrow morning.  Earliest I'll get to play again will be maybe one or two days next week, if not that then the week after.

I feel for you brother. I wouldn't wish a YLOD on anyone. :(

Good to see that you'll still be able to play L.A Noire though. :D

That sucks man.

I had 2 PS3s die on me within 6 months of getting the first one and that was a time when I had no other way to play games.

I hate console deaths. I've had 2 360's die on me. So far, my PS3 that I bought in late 2007 has worked just perfectly. I actually have money and gift cards put away in case a PS3 death occurs.

This is the only real reason I like the OnLive idea.. I can't wait til the day we can buy a gaming product and expect it to work 10+ years.

That sucks...reminds me of my launch-day 2006 60GB PS3 that died in May 2009 (with COD4: Modern Warfare stuck within it) due to the YLOD. My fat 2009 80GB PS3 is still ticking (but I am concerned since the fans have been acting up on it).

Happened when I got GTA IV on my birthday. Had to drool over the case until my PS3 finally came 3 weeks later. Then I played the shit out of it.

@thebroken: Had 2 PS3's die on me in 13 months. Got my PS3 in January 2008, just stopped working when I got GTA IV on my birthday July 1st. Got it back the end of July. Then August 2009, BOOM! Yellow light of motherfuckin death. Had no warranty and my mom said she wasn't paying for it. Then while we're moving in October 08, the damn mover took it and BAM! It didn't arrive at our house. Been out of a PS3 since. Just been gaming at friends houses but I borrowed my cousins PS3 back in March and my mom gave it back just before spring break started. Getting one in June though and only I'm going to play it. Make my family pay me $5 if they want to play.

I'm not 100% but I think there is a way to get the disc out of a ylod ps3. I did it by accident, the fan went on full blast and then back to ylod but the disc came out. but i think its an actual method.

Hmm...I had to use a fine-tip pair of tweezers to pull my stuck copy of Modern Warfare out of my 2006 60GB PS3 when it suffered a YLOD in 2009. I could never get the disk out otherwise (as to why I had to pull it out).
