I recently got an e-mail from Amazon saying I can get any (I think any) gaming magazine for 50% off, so i was thinking of using it. I own all systems and a PC (a mediocre one at that) and was wondering if I should go for a jack-of-all trades mag (GameInformer, GamePro, etc.) or something like the Xbox mag or Nintendo Power, which focuses on one system.

So, any magazine readers out there wanna give me some recommendations?

i really like xbox magazine as long as you get it with the disc. sometimes they put a free premium theme or gamerpic on the disc. i just got a 2 year subscription for the price of 1 year from amazon like 2 weeks ago.

I loved the little I knew of GFW. I was sad to see it go. It was the only game magazine I ever really read.

I get OXM for the demo discs. Most of the time it's useless, but there are  nice goodies now and then like free Oblivion add-ons, Rockband songs and sweet gamerpics.

After trying to add a magazine to the cart, evidently the only ones I can use the 50% off coupon on are the Xbox mag with DVD, Nintendo Power, PC Gamer, Nvision, and Playstation Mag.

I guess I'll get Xbox mag for $12.47 for one year. Never even heard of Nvision.

I guess if I had to choose it would be Edge. It is just very high quality and is worth the money. But with sites like this one and Kotaku, I don't see much point in picking magazines up anymore.

Hyper was great before the internet got big, I still read it every now and then but it can get weird reading "breaking news" from almost a month back or reviews for games you bought a couple of weeks ago.

I used to get PC Powerplay, they were pretty awesome.

Don't think it's available from amazon though...

I read the Australian Gameinformer the other day, and while i won't agree with all their reviews, they're pretty decent. Not sure how the US version is though. Keep in mind, the magazine only cost me $2.

I don't currently subscribe to any gaming magazines but I love what John Davison is doing with GamePro. He's really turning it around. As for non-US mags go I think EDGE is a gold standard in terms of print quality, editorial, etc. It's a classy read. Don't always agree with their review scores but I'm not really getting it for the reviews.

N64 magazine, the unofficial one, was a long-time favourite of mine, along with PC Gamer.  I must say I really miss the pleasure of pouring through a magazine, and you're inspiring me to pick up a subscription.
That said, I get more focused (and probably in-depth) gaming journalism from here and a few other sites. But perhaps magazines might push me in directions I wouldn't otherwise go. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Discuss.

The last couple issues of GamePro that I've picked up had great cover art and some really interesting articles. They get my vote.

I agree with the fact that I could get more info from the internet, but I don't always wanna be sitting in front of a computer screen. If I'm sitting on the couch watching TV (wow I make myself sound so lazy lol) I can be flipping through the mag, and there's just something about it that makes it so much more appealing than a bland webpage.
