Your most favorite game over screen of all time?

My personal favorite game over screen of all time is R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, which occurs if the player fails to meet the finishing position objective in order to qualify to advance to the next rounds of the Grand Prix mode after running out of chances or they choose to end grand prix, then they must restart from the beginning or load from their save data where they left off.

I know this is the answer everyone is expecting but the MGS Game Over screen is my absolute favorite. I love how dramatic it is and mixes both the dialogue and music. Not to mention the way the text is built.

@xolotl: Yep, this is one of the greatest stealth games from the 90s, now I'm curious on Kojima's coming up game for Xbox is going to be like but I hope it won't end up like Death Stranding for being bizarre.

The first one that comes to mind is the original DKC. I remember finding it creepy as a kid. That music is just so sad. The art shows them just a little bit beat up, but from the music they are clearly dead, and all hope in the world is lost.

Chrono Trigger & Sega Rally

The immediate answer really is MGS though.

Wouldn't really call it a favorite, but Daytona USA's is always memorable.

if i'm being honest i have a bit of bat-fatigue, but at the time i had an absolute hoot watching Mark Hamill spit game as Joker.

i'm a fan of antagonists kicking the player while they're down, generally.

Similar to above, the one from Maximo after you've used up enough second chance tokens and the Grim Reapers kills you while laughing. I don't know if its all time, but its the first one that came to mind. I also like the GAME OVER, YEAH! The one from Final Fight and Street Fighter Alpha 3, mainly because of the cool music and the goofy announcer counting down.

@xolotl: Let's not forget the jump scare everyone got when you had to change discs.

OK, now for my real answer: Max Payne. Maybe it's just because I died a lot playing it recently, but it sticks out in my mind. The music stinger, the camera work - it all fits with the rest of the game's presentation so well.

Also, shoutout to the fake game over scene in Control. Remedy puts so much effort into using every part of the buffalo when making their games engaging.
