My perfect game consists of all of the above (except G. Fuck MMOs. And maybe F.)
Your perfect game consists more of:
i'd love a realistic sort of survival horror (ish) war game, cant see anyone ever putting that out though,
EDIT- after reading that back, i thought id clarify that i dont mean having zombies and monsters in it, i mean more like, very limited health/ammo and much slower pacing ect ect blah blah blah, you probably get the picture now
Based on my favorite games this year, I would have to say C. I was thinking about saying D but I would argue that the quantity of story isn't what's lacking, but the quality. I can't say I've ever played a game that had a story comparable to some of my favorite books or films. It would certainly be nice if they did, but I mainly play games for the actual gameplay.
I want fun in my games. Fun. Enjoyment. Couldn't give a toss about graphics. Appreciate them when they're great but if the gameplay is gash then what's the point. "It's like sewing silver buttons onto dog shit" as my gran would say.
If I knew what my perfect game consisted of I'd become a game designer and get paid.
I don't see why any one of those categories should take precedent over any other. In fact, a perfect game should combine all of them seamlessly.
Except for Realism and the last two.
I mean it could, but that isn't really the point.
Realism, in racing simulations.
I don't have iracing yet, because it costs a lot and my internet connection is awkward with online games so I don't want to subscribe to a game I can't play. That can't stop me fantasizing however...
Definitely more story! Most games these days are shallow and just plain short..... :(
Thankfully there are still a handful of companies doing some awesome stuff with storytelling. Kudos to them :)
I think I'd go with more options.
I'd like to see more games with genuinely good stories, there's very few I can think of that do. But I don't think games really require that to be fun.
Ditto for innovation. It's always welcome, of course. But I'm not part of the camp that believes a game has to be completely original to be fun either.
As for an MMO that isn't built around the success of WoW.. Guild Wars 2.
Where's H: some combination of them all? Fire Emblem 4 has a combination of several of those. However, I'll vote for the one that's odd, but true: realism, at least how you put it.
None of the above specifically, and yet everything. I like too wide a variety of games to really choose.
More story...better dialogue & better characters in that story. I hate to say it but we are not as stupid as the movie ands game industry thinks we are, we can actually handle motivation beyond: "This guy shoots people real good because he's angry and this woman is tough outside because she really vulnerable inside."
Good stories are not even complex. A good story doesn’t need a plot twist, a good story keeps you enthralled even when it just follows an arc that is easy to understand. One of the oldest stories is Gilgamesh and that story is dead simple. The basic story is the old gods, to keep Gilgamesh in check, creating a wild man named Enkidu. This wildman was as magnificent as Gilgamesh. Enkidu became Gilgamesh’s great friend, and Gilgamesh’s heart is shattered when Enkidu died of an illness inflicted by the gods. Gilgamesh then traveled to the edge of the world to find wisdom and get answers about 'life'.
A dude’s friend dies and he goes on a quest to answer the questions of life. Not hard stuff to understand. Moreover, the story is helped with the inclusion of the first 'hooker' with a heart of gold and the fact that most people think Gilgamesh was a womanizing prick & a big douche bag. We still love stories about jerks who find out life is more than chasing tail and making money. We still love stories where people high up get brought low. We still love stories where two dudes are best buddies and one dies. We still love stories with 'good girl' prostitutes in them.
Story, Gameplay, Options... Space Simulation?! What the fuck? Thats the most random option ever.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST IN YOUR VIDEO GAMES?
- Good gameplay
- Good graphics
- Good soundtrack
- Talking cartoon rabbits
" I want games to be more like Bayonetta. "Me too. I'm in love with Bayonetta but I haven't thought about running my hands across her naked body. I've got a Madonna complex about her, she's so good so she's untouchable. But I do purr and rrrreyoww during cutscenes.
I'm not sure how to compare these quantitatively... I guess I'd go with options, if I had to choose.
I like games that demand and reward intelligence, not a persons ability to hit buttons faster then another person. Sadly that seems to be the exact opposite way literally every genre of game seems to be going in, and I have come to realize that's why I'm enjoying fewer and fewer games.
I would also give an equal nod to deeper and more involved stories. It seems like almost every game is ether cliched to the point that you have already played the game before just with different character names, or is so badly written that it makes children's television look like Shakespeare by comparison.
It depends. I don't know what my perfect game would be, for it probably hasn't been invented. It could be a perfect balance of them all; it could focus more on story; or it could focus more on gameplay, I don't know yet. I'm very open-minded. But one thing I always want is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's okay to have a serious story, but I like it when the serious story is complimented by some charm, otherwise I don't feel like the developers were having fun making the game. A good example is the Metal Gear Solid series.
