Giantbomb Community 2012 Game of the Year Voting

Hello duders and welcome again to the Community GOTY list thread.

So a quick bit of history for those that don't remember: two years ago Giantbomb had a feature where users would create game of the year lists and submit them to the site. Those lists were then added up together and Dave and the crew would give us a neat rundown of what the users of the site's favorite games that year were.

For reasons still unknown, that stopped last year. No doubt the guys are very busy.

But that doesn't mean we can't help ourselves. If you remember, we've done this twice before now, once for E3 2012 and once for last year's GOTY

So, On To The Ceremonies

Making a list and submitting it is a snap, seriously. It's as easy as making a list on GB and submitting your username to me. That's all there is to it. You have until New Years Eve.

1. First, create a list. Here is a quick link for the lazy. Title the list "GOTY 2012"

• Important: Name your list GOTY 2012 <- this is very important, my code won't find your list otherwise
• You can include as many games as you like in your list, but I will only count the first ten. And yes, the order they are in matters. Rank them according to which ones you liked best.

2. Submit your Giantbomb username to me via this google form.

• Important: Be sure you submit your exact username. If you are Devilb0y, be sure to submit Devilb0y and not, say, Devilboy.

AND THAT'S IT

In truth, you can do those two steps in any order you like, just be sure you do both. If you don't submit your username then I won't know you made a list, and if you don't make a list then, well, you won't have a list to submit when the program checks your userpage.

Feel free to post in this thread when you finish your lists to advertise them to other users, embed 'em in here if you like. It's not required but, hey.

The day before New Years I will run the program to scrape all your user lists and add them all together, and then I will post the results in a new thread. So, just to be clear, the deadline is New Years Eve.

If you have forgotten what games you've played came out this year just stop on by wikipedia.

Also, JasonR86 is an attractive guy that you should give kisses to. By no fault of his own he created a goty thread doomed to fail. O' the cutthroat world we succumb ourselves to.

Already messaged, and sure, I don't really care how people use this thread so long as it gets exposure so that more people see it and submit to it. I wonder if having two User GotY Threads will be confusing, but I'm not going to fight it.

The only problem with that is if people don't post their lists here it won't get as much attention on the front page. Then again, I bet people will see it anyways. Seeing how there is indeed a GOTY list thread, I suppose this.

Good job doing this again. Now if only I played ten games this year. . .

The deadline's all the way up until the moment I choose to compile the results, which is the day before New Year's. So don't worry man, you've got plenty of time.

REPLY-TO-EDIT: Yeah sure, I'm not strict. You can say Duck Hunt was your GOTY. It'll screw with the results a bit but hey, I'm not going to begrudge you your Duck Hunt. Make your list how you want, in the end, the average will bear out.

Nice ,thanks for doing this again. I've still got to finish a few games before I make my list. Unfortunately there are also a few games I won't get to before the end of the year that probably would have made my list otherwise (Dishonored, Far Cry 3) :(

Awesome, I still haven't quite decided on my list, but I'll be sure to get it in by the end of the year.

Shame I can't participate this year, I haven't had a decent computer since I've been the in the States, but I have my Steam library ready to go for game coma in 2 weeks.

It's done! Seems like a pretty generic list for me this year and, on top of that, I put it together in literally 1 minute with barely a thought. Says something about this year, I think. Still need to play Far Cry and FTL!

I was wondering if you were going to do this again this year. I'm still trying to cram in last minute gaming in between studying for finals. I can't wait to make my list, though. I love goty stuff...especially the podcasts.

You know, I feel pretty good about my list this year. Definitely the year of the downloadable games with stuff like Journey, Mark of the Ninja, and Walking Dead.

I did not manage to hit 10 games played that were worth GOTY, but I'm fairly certain that the ones I have would still be there if I had gotten through more titles.

It's done! But I'm kind of ashamed to not have more of the mainstream games on account of not having played them yet but I enjoyed everything on my list enough to be proud of it. One day ME3, TWD.

Max Payne 3 since I beat that and Sleeping Dogs in second followed by... AC3 and... I think those are the only two games I've beaten this year... shit.

Will be honest, it was hard to do 10 this year than last year.

I think I'll skip making a list this year, it is hard saying which games are better than others. I could probably mention my favorite ten games of the year, but I don't know if I could rank them this year.

I didn't realize this until I started my list, but holy crap did downloadable titles kick the shit out of retail stuff this year. Trials Evo, Walking Dead, Mark of the Ninja, Pinball Arcade, Rock Band Blitz...daymn.

Really struggling to come up with 10. I still play plenty of stuff from years prior so I'm not sure I even played 10 games released in 2012.

Getting mine put together, but so far there is only one -- ONE -- retail disc game on my list. Times they are a changin'.

I've been keeping a list throughout the year here and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I still haven't played Far Cry 3 or Mark of the Ninja and will try play enough of those before the end of the year to make some sort of judgement on them.

It has to be said that this year ended up being surprisingly good for videogames when a game like Diablo III didn't even get into my Top 10.

My Top 3 for the year is The Walking Dead, Halo 4 and Journey.

Done and done. Hoping to figure out 10 by the deadline but I'm definitely happy with Journey being my 2012 game of the year. There is no other game like it this year and its grammy-nominated soundtrack just accompanies the probably timeless visuals so perfectly. ThatGameCompany should be damn proud of this game.

Fin. That was harder than I thought, but mostly because I only played 8 or 9 games from 2012, but there were some games that I loved in 2012 that were technicalities so I hit 10. I'll probably do my usual and have a shitload of "This year's last year's GOTY" like I do for every year. Still haven't even touched XCOM, FTL, or Far Cry 3, not to mention Crusader Kings II or Max Payne 3.

I thought it was really hard to cut it down to ten games. It seemed like a slow year but looking at my list it shows quality game realeases all year. Sorry to the great games that could not make it. Mass Effect 3, Walking Dead, Journey, Tokyo Jungle,Dishounerd,Dragons Dogma,Lollipop Chainsaw , Gravity Rush, Zero Escape VLR ,Ridge Racer Unbounded. Your all number 11 in my heart. Actually FIFA 13 is 11 and your all 12.

Made the list last year, but didn't know where to submit it. Now I know.

I had to put in games that I didn't even play to get to 10. (Far Cry 3 & Mark of the Ninja) And I left off Darksiders 2 which I did. So that's saying something. I wonder if DS2 will be on anyone's list?

Fudge it (edit): I went back and took out those two games because I didn't play them. Put on Darksiders 2 and Transformers instead. Those were both plenty good for me. And at least I have an informed opinion on them.

Looking back, I've played some freaking awesome games this year.

Got my list up, although I still need to do a bit of work on their descriptions.

There's a few big names I left off mine, just because I haven't played them yet. Particularly anything that was released later than August. I think you'd have to be crazy to invest in them, when they'll appear for so much cheaper just a few months/weeks later in the Winter sales.

You mean I can't wait until July to do my GOTY list this year? Damn. Guess I better get cracking.
