POST LAUNCH EDIT: As of right now, we cannot actually support friends in TPP's FOB system. BSF is still taking names for when this will (hopefully) be patched, and also for people interested in playing MGO together. The original post is below for posterity:

With the revelation that you can call upon your friends to help you defend your FOB (Forward Operating Base) if you aren't around, and with MGO delayed for at least a month on consoles and until January for PCs, I thought it would be nice to trade names for FOB related activities and set ourselves up for MGO's eventual release.

MGO doesn't have a clan setup confirmed yet, so this is going to start out loosely organized. For FOBs, no rules about not attacking each other or anything like that (I'm not sure how you pick your targets anyway) as you can't really enforce it; just a way to connect to some like minded people who'd want to have the chance of someone backing them up when they are offline. My assumption is that you'd get a notification when someone on your friends list is under attack if they are offline themselves.

There's no cross platform multiplayer confirmed so far, so make sure to list the platform you are on. I'll be playing on PC, so if you guys and gals want to organize the console MGO stuff in a separate thread (you'll probably have a few months head start), feel free, but this can act as just a general friends list even if you aren't planning on going heavy into the MGO scene, PC or otherwise. I'd highly encourage anyone who thought they wanted no part in the FOB stuff to still drop their names in, as you might find that having a Giant Bomb shaped safety net is just what you need to get into a little Snake on Snake action, and there's no obligation to actually set up a base yourself. It seems that you can give other players a tour of your FOB, so seeing the unique setups that people have made might cause you to change your mind!

I'm Cath52 and I'll be on PlayStation 4 and this is a great idea. I want to try out the FOB stuff because I love all of the base-building aspects of the game but I rarely play online games because I get super smoked. Having anyone out there to lend a hand sounds great!

Yes. I don't know if I'll get into the FOB stuff until later in the game, as I wouldn't want that bothering me all the time. At least in the beginning. All PS4 users add me: Not-A-Stalker.

Does starting a FOB open up more development options or something? What exactly is the benefit?

If there's enough GB duders in on the PC version of Phantom Pain, I'd definitely be game to try out the FOB system. I'd be happier building my bases knowing that Giant Bomb had my back.

Holy shit, this is the most Steam friend invites I've tossed out in years. As soon as I get a chance, I'll send invites to the Steam Group and you can yell "BROTHERRRRR" or "Snake, you stink!" in a group chat to your hearts content.

I'm getting my hands on the PC version first and foremost, and I definitely mean to engage a ton and a half in FoBs. I'm basing that prediction off the ridiculous amounts of time I spent in Dark Souls PvP, which just kind of strikes me as the closest thing, what with having to deal with AI enemies (or utilizing those to your advantage), and setting up traps for your foe. Mind games being at the forefront of these engagements.

Depending on how good MGO turns out, I just might pick up a second copy on the PS4 to play that. But we'll see.. (I probably will)
