N64 CLASSIC - which games should it have

The N64 classic is going to come out. I know its only speculation so far, but i can almost guarantee you it eventually will. Anyways, regardless of 3rd party licensing issues etc. In a perfect world what would be your top 20 to put in the n64 classic.

Ppl probably scoff at this but I didn't have a PS1 so I played a lot of Tony Hawk 1 on the N64 and I have a lot of good memories of it.

• Blast Corps (Maybe secretly Rare's best N64 game)
• NFL Blitz (A must play game back then)
• Mystical Ninja starring Goemon (Ben's playthrough convinced me this game deserves a shot on here)
• Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (Not the best version of this game, but seeing SW 1 Racer be released in some fashion would make me super giddy since this was one of my first games)

After Star Fox 2 was on SNES classic I just want an N64 compilation of all the scrapped tech demos. All those Metroid, Earthbound, and Fire Emblem games they half finished then threw away. Give me some DD games too. Finally release a Doshin game in North America, or localize that OG Animal Crossing game. None of this is reasonable, and I'm sure they threw away the source code long a go for these games, but that's what would get me to buy a N64 classic.

Too bad there's no chance in hell it will include any of the great AKI engine wrestling titles, that's what I'd mostly want given most of the big titles have been offered on the virtual console.

@meteora3255 & @liquiddragon: Yeah, that is a playable version. But, having to rebind your controller/gamepad bindings every time you boot up the game, and the cut scenes not displaying larger than (what I'm assuming to be) 800 x 600 resolution can be a little annoying. So, the N64 version is second best under the arcade version. Shame that my N64 is busted 'cause I still have the cartridge.

Bomberman Hero

The N64 library isn't all that deep and a lot of games that people would really want are going to be difficult or impossible due to licensing issues (Rogue Squadron, WWF/WCW games, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie). I know OP wants an ideal list, but I think those issues are tough to ignore.

Its the best game on that console.

@shiftygism: I have my little sister’s N64 still, with all the AKI games, imports included. I also have Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and Mario Kart.

Unless the N64 Mini has all those games, longer cables, and all the right controller options for the Rare shooters, I have no need for one.

Though if they had a solid version of Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 built-in (which they won’t), I’d buy one just to have it.

Oh, yeah. Almost definitely not. There's a bar where I live that has a Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey cabinet there, and it's definitely a relic. That, and all games between people that know how to do power shots end up 10+ on each side.

I may be in the minority here but the N64 wasn't a great system and that controller was awful. I do not want an N64 classic

This thread inspired me to pull out my 64 and see if F-Zero X held up. The answer is a resounding yes. It's shocking how well it actually does. It plays just as well as I remember it playing, if not better. Smooth as fuck. A lot of N64 games can be a bit awkward with the single joystick playing them now but F-Zero being a racer, this isn't an issue. It runs incredibly and it still neat to see NPCs going at it, side wiping and spin attacking each other as you drive past them. The drivers in this game always felt like they had personalities which is pretty rare. Also, 30 cars being on the track, while it's not impressive seeing it now, it does create an excitement to every race.

I only went through the first cup but the draw distance is good enough, something that could've been a deal breaker. I'm gonna go through all the cups and see this if crops up cause it's one of those things I was expecting it to be a problem. One thing that is distracting is the heavy aliasing. It's bad and it's everywhere, which I guess is to be expected but it's a little much. It'd probably be far less noticeable on a CRT. The tracks themselves I like a lot. They brought back a lot of memories and I'm looking forward to revisiting the rest of the cups. Lastly, the music, so good.

I agree with you, but people in their early to mid 20s seem hyper nostalgic for it currently, so it'll basically be Nintendo just printing money.

A baby N64 with 4 huge controller ports on the front is gonna look real gross regardless.

I'm right in that age group and had a N64, but I just do not have nostalgia for it at all. Good for other people though and I hope its awesome.

So much potential for this, but as others have said there's also the rights issues,especially with Rare.

With all the licencing issues I could see it being maybe 15 games.

I am ready to be disappointed though.

Since it’ll probably be rated T (12+) like the SNES classic, there’s no hope for Goldeneye anyways (until someone whoop whoop hack a doodle doo), so all I’m asking for is Mario Party...1, 2 and 3.

I'd be more likely to scoff at people being snobby about the PS1 version, cause I played it on Dreamcast, which I think was the best console version? Although I could be wrong
