4chan.js

...I think I fucked up guys. Being the dumbass that I am I followed a set of instructions that told me save an image file, rename it to 4chan.js, and open it. The file disappeared, and nothing happened at all, but now I'm ridiculously nervous. Does anyone know about this? Is there anything I can do?

If it's like the 4chan.js that was going around a while ago, all it does is log onto 4chan.org in the background and post spam messages telling other people to do what you did. It'll get you banned from 4chan. But that 4chan.js was a notepad file, not an image. I'd guess it might be the same though. Do you still have a copy of the image? I might be able to decypher it and figure out if that is what it does if you do.

It's official. I was banned. Apparently it's permanent. I wonder if it's possible to have the band lifted if I no longer have the virus.

I just restarted my computer in safe mode, ran a virus scan, and a spybot search and destroy scan, then I made a full system restore back to two days ago, before the malicious code was entered into my system. I'm no longer getting virus reports, and I'm no longer getting registry change notifcations. All is well on my computer. Hopefully I can appeal my ban from 4chan since I don't have the virus anymore, and never intended to cause any harm in the first place (curiosity killed the cat with a fucking shotgun). If not, oh well. I won't get too broken up about it. There's still GiantBomb.

In other words, crisis averted. Thanks to everyone who helped me out.
