According to my TV, 78 people have been reported dead so far, and growing. I guess the main point of this thread is to tell all my fellows down in California to watch the news and make sure you don't have a ridiculous tsunami coming. Anyone in Hawaii should also watch out. (If anyone in Hawaii even goes on video game forums...) USGS reports (I assume that's United States Geological Survey) waves so far of up to 9 feet. Waves can rise or fall during the several hour trip through the Pacific. Apparently, since the richter scale is pretty much measured exponentially, the 8.8 earthquake would be about 500 times as strong as the earthquake in Haiti. That's probably wrong, to some large extent, but it's what my weatherguy is tellin' me.
"8.8" Magnitude Earthquake hits Chile
First I thought "Oh god, Jeffs old review of Twilight Princess just hit Chile and they're pissed"
But it was nothing nearly as funny.
Everyone get to high grounds!
Or get in the submarine.. something!
" Crap... Well this sucks. Watch the 2012 people use this to further their agenda. Their pants are still wet after Haiti and now this will prompt them to spread their stupidity even more now. -_-' Hope everything turns out okay over there. "Sadly, that's the first thing I thought of. If anything, I hope the people who made that stupid movie feel horrible about themselves right now.
Where I live, we don't get earthquakes. We get brutally cold winters and in summer there are occasionally tornadoes. The thing with a tornado, see, is that you can see them coming. The sky turns black, and it was fucking hot all day. There are things you can do to prepare (get in the basement, not stay near glass, etc).
With earthquakes, there are no warning signs. That would freak the fuck out of me.
Those poor families who lost their loved ones and homes. :(

I wonder what un-Godly behaviour the Chileans have done that the Christians will blame for it.
We miss almost all those natural disasters in Australia. The biggest tremor I have felt is probably only been about a 5.0 - minor shaking. I hope destruction and death ism't on Haiti's scale.

@ZeForgotten: im not racist... racism is a crime and crime is for tornados
Don't make jokes and.. such.. yada yada ramblings and noise..
From what I can gather the epicenter was in quite a sparsely populated area, so the death toll hopefully wont be anywhere near as big as could of been possible. Only worry is big aftershocks, but the majority of Chile's tall buildings have shock absorbers so they should stay up.
Reports claim a 40 meter(131ft) wave hit Juan Fernandez island.
If that's an accurate report then holy fucking shit.

"Yeah, the media doesn't like to say it, but Haiti's buildings were pieces of shit. Basically just plaster with windows. Chile has much more modernized structures, way more suited to deal with things like this. That's not to say there can't be significant damage... just less of it.

I always find news list this depressing, because my first reaction is always "I want to go help these people out", but then I realize how I can't really do that, and the only option I hate to help out is by giving money.
Here in Argentina (a neighbour country of Chile) it was felt very hard till the middle of the country and we even had our own 4 magnitude earthquake in the north at the same time, but the epicentre was located in a uninhabited zone and it was very superficial. What the hell is going on, so many earthquakes in the last months (none of them nearly as devastating as Haiti's luckyly)
Damn, this is the first I heard about this tragedy. Looks like more bad tiding for those in the path of the tsunami and then there are the expected aftershock for the Chileans, as well.
Repent, the end is nigh...
I hope everything goes well for people there, best of luck to them

That's pretty big. Not sure where that is, but it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't want to be near that thing.

I thought that to. I'm a bad person :(
" @Unchained: For some reason I've always wanted to see a tornado in person. I know it's a stupid wish, but I know it would be something truly awesome. ...That may be an asshole thing to say, for anyone who has had tornado trouble. "oh yeah.. me too. I've had dreams about it as well. It's scary..
" @CptChiken said:Well, the only time I've been close to a tornado was right down the road from my workplace (we played Halo 2 while the tornado was hitting the Coca-Cola plant). Given that it was pitch black outside and we couldn't see it...I don't think he's being racist. Just real." @FunExplosions said:Racist!!! :o ""For some reason I've always wanted to see a tornado in person."kind of difficult... they arent people "
