I grew up reading Goosebumps. And one of the things I remember while reading the books was that they were scary. That's not the feeling that I am getting from this trailer. It looks like a goofy action comedy, which I am fine with except that for the fact that it has the goosebumps brand.

Should a Goosebumps movie be scary or was Goosebumps always campy and this is the correct interpretation of it?

The books were a bit campy, but the television show was its own brand of camp. If the movie is playing more off of the show and how silly it was then I'm all for that. Maybe.

I like the idea that the movie exists in a universe where the books are real and people have read them. Leaves the opportunity for some self awareness. At the same time I didn't think the comedy in that trailer was particularly great. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Yeah, as a kid Goosebumps (and Are you Afraid of the Dark?) would scare me, but looking back it was of course pretty campy and silly, so I think the tone fits if this movie is speaking to the 90's kids.
It reminds me of a not as good Gremlins or Monster House or something. I'm cool with it.

It's not the most original idea but at the very least I like that it is his creations come to life.

They were always campy, but I remember some of em freaking me out a bit. Are You Afraid of The Dark generally had creepier stories.

But I will totally watch this and probably have a good time.

Looks... alright. I actually really like Jack Black and I like the idea of RL Stine's books coming to life in the movie's universe, so I will probably check this out.

Are you Afraid of the Dark was some hardcore stuff when I was 7. The Ghastly Grinner episode scared the piss out of me.

I know that I read Goosebumps books as a kid, but all I remember is a killer sponge and ventriloquist dummy. I'll probably catch the movie if it's streaming or on HBO,

I didn't even realize Goosebumps was still a thing. Loved those books when I was growing up.

The movie seems like it's probably not worth seeing, but the nostalgia trip was fun.

Yeah, I remember the books and the show. I remember getting scared on one of the episodes and digging my head into my moms arm, I think it was about some mask or something, and maybe it was the same one or different, but I also remember one with spiders, where a kid or something grabbed his hair and spiders came out. I was too young to notice the goofiness (I was in kindergarten I think), though I always knew the books were more for kids than adults (though if I remember correctly, R.L. Stine said he hadn't intended it to be for children). As for the movie, it looks kind of dumb, but I'm not surprised by its tone. You may remember it being scary, but as adults, I doubt they are, though I suppose I don't remember the sheer goofiness of it like this. Also, is it weird I thought that was Tom Arnold with the still image before you click the video to start? Someone mentioned Jack Black, and I thought 'wait, Jack Black is in it?"

I clicked on this just to see what a train wreck this was going to be, but oddly enough, this actually looks kind of ok. I think I'm more surprised than anything else.

Uh....

Well I mean Hollywood are cashing on just about every other TV/movie/book property from the past 100 years so sure, this lines up with how things are going, though I do like the idea of Jack Black as R.L. Stine. Looks like some pretty inoffensive family PG horror fair anywhoo from the trailer. Kinda brings to mind Joe Dante's The Hole in some respects, which was also surprisingly really damn good.

Also, this brought to mind the hilarity of how Anakin Skywalker was in Night of the Living Dummy III.

I read the Fear Street books to make myself feel like I was more grown-up than the other kids in 5th grade.

As I recall, the rule was that nobody could die in Goosebumps, but Fear Street would usually off one of its characters.

Are there still Goosebumps books being written? The film seems super geared towards kids, nothing wrong with that, but what kids these days can really relate to Goosebumps? Maybe the books are still big in school libraries, I don't know.

It's weird I think I kinda want to watch it but in that same breath I don't think it's the kind of goosebumps movie I think it should be. I want unintentionally campy semi scary not this. Again though I kinda want to see it.

Doesn't really have that same feel and appeal from the old Goosebump TV series.

Seems just like a comedy featuring Goosebumps rather than a Goosebumbs movie.

PS All the Are You Afraid of the Darks are on youtube.

The only Goosebumps books I read was the first Monster Blood and some of the choose your own adventure books. Never got too into them. I was more of an Animorphs guy.

Well, since no one else has posted it, Goosebumps by Niel Cicierega / Lemon Demon (Of Brodyquest fame). A pretty damn fantastic song.

Hello I'm ryan and I'm a member of the "actually" police.

ACTUALLY, old slappy didn't look like that if you look at the cover of the books. He just looked like this in the show, which is honestly creepier in my opinion.

Regardless, this movie looks like garbage.

1. Pandering this hard to my youth is fucking annoying, Hollywood.

2. Jack Black. Ew. No.

3. So Jack Black is an over-exaggerated version of R.L. Stine, and some kids break into his house, open his books, and monsters from the stories come out?

I can only hope that the monster from It Came Beneath The Sink slits all their throats and they drown in their own blood at the end of it.

Fuck that trailer. Fuck this movie.

I'm still waiting for the day R.L. Stine is the answer on the Wheel of Fortune final round.
