I started to collect this year, but I only have about 5 or so albums, with Purple Rain and Abbey Road being the only noteworthy vinyls I have.

By the way, remember, it's Record Store Day tomorrow; go get some records for cheap, find some limited edition to buy & take home all while supporting your local record store!

I haven't been shopping for a while, but I have a couple boxes worth of them. Mostly classic rock, lots of Beatles, Stones, Doors, Who, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Springsteen  etc.

My sister has a bunch, she found some rare ones for super cheap in some garage sales, but I can't remember any specifics right now.

Personally, I spend way too much money as it is, so another hobby is a bad idea =P

I'd like to collect more, but it doesn't feel right, since I don't have a record player.

I have only three right now -
Children of Bodom "Blooddrunk" special edition
Dark Tranquillity "Fiction" special edition
Dark Tranquillity "Character"

Sort of? I have a bunch of ridiculous old records I got from my library for free. Including one from the 40s/50s that claims to be "German Beer-Drinking Music".

I bought a cheap player a few months ago, and a few records: deep purple, the who, bob dylan, miles davis, the clash, and a pink floyd record that would not play properly. I hve no idea what the problem is, the player plays all the other records just fine. I traded the LP back, and bought a new one from another store (this one, just like the other one, had no scratches or anything) but it had the same problem. NOBODY can tell me what the hell is going on.

I started collecting about a year ago. I've got about 40-45 LPs currently. Most of the collection consists of Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan.

I buy/collect records, pretty much exclusively metal and grindcore stuff.  Just ordered a Wolves in the Throne Room LP yesterday in fact.

My dad used to have a bunch of Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, and Thin Lizzy records back in the day, I wish he had kept them.

I've got a few, but I only want ones that I think are unique. Like, I have one that's translucent red, one that's white, and one that has the band's photo on it. Mostly, I just got them for the novelty. I don't even have a record player!

@TheCableKid: the record skip. If it was the needle or the player, then would it not have the same problem with every LP? But its only with dark side of the moon, but seemingly every copy of it

I have my parent's collection...Plus a copy of Franz Ferdinand and a Sex Pistols EP.

I really REALLY want some Nick Drake on Vinyl. That would make me exceptionally happy.

I've got some er...canto pop LPs as well as the soundtrack for the Godfather. The Bioshock 2 LP is probably the only video game related LP I've got. I think Fallout 3 had one as well.

" I suppose I'd like to, but buying music digitally for half the price is more attractive to me. Also I listen to most of my music on awful laptop speakers, so I'm sort of an anti-audiophile.

[edit] Half the price of a current release on vinyl, that is. I know I can go to Goodwill or any record store and get old jazz records for like $2. But pretty much all of the music I would want to own on vinyl is from the last ten years, so most releases would probably run me $10 and up I assume.
"
New releases on vinyl are usually within the $15-$20 range.

I have hundreds of LPs -  I bought them to listen to, rather than collect.

I still enjoy listening to many of them regularly.

@Thrillhouse87: My copy does not skip! There might have been a batch pressing fault, but that would not affect all copies sold, since record masters wear out and are replaced. For instance, you can buy an audiophile version of the LP from Amazon.

Whenever I buy a new record I delete the files off my computer to force myself to spin it when I want to listen. It's been working out pretty well, except for my warped original pressing of Wish You Were Here :[

Nah. My dad does, he has several thousand and several record players. He has his hobby I have mine.

I'm actually not sure if he still collects- from what I hear its all in a garage somewhere. Large portion of his collection was destroyed in a flood or something.

I've got a pretty huge selection of Vinyl (about 250-300 records).  I have everything ranging from classical to jazz to punk to rap (original Kurtis Blow self titled LP ftw!).

Most of my stuff is more rock oriented. I have lots of Beatles, Floyd, Dead, Stones, Zappa, Dylan, etc.

Honestly, I haven't even hooked up my record player since we moved in our "new" place over a year ago, but one day I'll get that bad boy going again.

Yeah I recently started buying almost all my music on vinyl. I'm not a collector per say but when I buy anything I really like to have that tangible copy that I can flip through and hold. I'll listen to the album a few times on vinyl but most of music listening, even on stuff I have on vinyl, is done via my MP3 player or computer.

My most expensive one is my $70 Sonic Youth "Washing Machine" LP.  But it was totally worth it

Yeah,I'll have to see what I can get up here.My collection could be bigger in my opinion, but I've got some good stuff.Bad Brains,an original pressing of Exile on Main Street,BB King, etc.Decent number of 33s too.Only problem:record stores have been disappearing rapidly around here the last several years. It's literally gotten to a "last man standing" point.Shame that.

Heh, I dont even know. I think its the LP, as the player have no problems with the other records I have played. Maybe its a batch pressing fault like diz said. I might buy yet another copy of the record at some point then, as dark side of the moon was the main reason I bought the player in the first place. Thanks anyway.
