Anyone find it annoying when dudes sign the bottom of their posts
Signatures are the fucking worst. Ugh. No, for the last time I don't want to read that stupid quote from some dead poet/author/philosopher/general/dictator that most of the time has no relevance to the thread, to the discussion at hand. It's hard enough as it is to stop staring at the bouncing tits avatars
@BisonHero: Maybe he's the only one who I saw sign his posts. And no, there's so few people doing that that I don't really care.

I entered this thread expecting most people to reply by signing their name at the bottom of their post. I was not disappointed.

I immediately thought of that guy too, seems like he's stopped doing it though, which I appreciate.
I think it's fine. Maybe a little pointless since we can clearly see your user name at the top of the post. Perhaps it would be better to sign off with a little known fact about yourself instead. Read enough of somebody's posts and you'll eventually get to know them a little better over time.
Sincerely,
The worlds second greatest lover, after Steve Buscemi.
This thread is everything I expected and more.

(its like a urge, if everyone writes their name, so must we! Argh!)

As I've explained before, my penchant for signing my posts with my real first name (not my username, though in the case of this one website, they are pretty much the same thing), is a habit that dates back to Usenet boards in the early 1990's when we were exchanging long posts with eachother, and signing our names to them. It has nothing to do with ego, and everything to do with wanting to put my name to my posts (instead of a meaningless username). It's a habit that has never been a problem on any of the other forums I use, yet seems to get repeated snarky comments here specifically.
So in the interest of not having to endure that every single time I comment on something, I've tried to stop doing it here, even if it means going back and editing my posts when I slip up. I still don't understand why anyone could possibly give a shit. In the realm of "things worth getting your back up about", people who like to put their real name to their opinions and comments should be about seven millionth on the list.
Yes. I am, however, fine if they sign their post a hundred times.

I put my name at the bottom of my blog posts. I know people can see it at the top, and I don't do it because I think I'm more special than anyone else, it's just a stylistic choice. When I see people doing it on forum posts I think it looks a little redundant, but I don't think it's a big deal, to each their own.
@Scotto: Been thinking about a way to get out of this one without coming off as a tool, without instigating any more fighting and whilst retaining some sort of notion that "I'm in the right"
Turns out that takes too long so I'll just sacrifice that last one (my pride) and apologize instead.
I'm sorry Scott, I was wrong and immature. As a token of my earnesty here is my real name:

This thread has really blossomed into something I am proud of.

Dear forum thread,
I think of signing your name like a letter of some sort. It's aimed to be personal or perhaps meaningful in a formal way. Or maybe he/she hates his/her username after a while, and signing the bottom of their post gives them a chance to go by another moniker. Maybe. I dunno at least that's how I think of it.
Hope the wedding reception went swell

Isn't there a thread on this already? Anyway it could just be me but I've noticed that Germans do this a lot on just about most websites. Never understood it but it seems harmless enough if a little silly.
