Anyone following this Felicia Day twitter drama?

To me it feels like he was mad because websites and blogs in general keep using felicia day's 'sexy gamer' image to get pageviews.

But that's my optimistic-self.

I'm pretty sure that it's come up in conversation before on the podcast and that they weren't really comfortable with being called it. I'd say the only person doing journalism on the team is Patrick, the rest might count themselves as press and critics.

For sure, a very large majority of people who write words about video games for money are critics, not journalists.

It's crazy what people will do to get publicity.

Just read through his whole twitter for the past few days- doesn't really seem like a dude I'd be interested in following... I guess if you're a public face of a popular website, you probably should be a complete asshole publicly and expect no repercussions.

Destructoid is pretty cool... well the only thing I follow about them is the DTOID Show, but yeah that guy is a dick for attacking her like that when people say "do you matter at all?" as if they are above someone else there isn't any room for "that wasn't what he wanted to say" he's just a dick.

It's kinda crazy how this story has been completely blown out of proportion. A couple of stupid twitter comments from a low level contributor at a website have equated to, a bunch of crazy people analysing equality and a MASSIVE witch hunt against people who see the comments for what they were, crazy babblings. People like Veronica Belmont and Wil Wheaton have had too much crazy juice and constude that he is talking about equality when it would appear that he just doesn't like Felicia Day. Just because I do not like Margaret Thatcher doesn't mean I am sexist and if I put in my twitter or facebook that she is one of the worst pm's doesn't mean that I am saying that men are better than women, she is just shit. HATERS GONA HATE!

Edit: Also he was drunk and I think everyone who has ever been drunk in the history of mankind can say that they can sometimes be absolute idiots while hitting the sauce.

Sterling didn't change his twitter bio until half way into this incident, so if its implied again that his comments before didn't reflect those of Destructoid then it can be implied Perez's comments didn't either. However, if you white knights argue that Perez's entire outburst wasn't guarded because he didn't have that, Sterlings entire outburst then is admissible as his comments are associated with Destructoid and Sterling should be fired just as Perez was.

People are stupid, if Jeff posts something on his twitter "I hate waffles" for example does that mean since he works for CBS that CBS has a strict "fuck waffles" policy? No it means the man doesn't like waffles.

It's well known that when you're a writer or reporter for any kind of outlet, written or television, what you say and do in a public forum can get you fired. We had those talks all the time when I was in college pursuing my journalism degree. If you've got a public twitter and link directly to the website you work for, you probably shouldn't shit talk someone in the industry who didn't even engage in a conversation with you. This isn't even a free speech or white knight thing, it's common fucking sense.

But that's the thing , who's Ryan's and Jeff's boss? do they have business relationships with these e-celebrities? probably not, would they care if someone at Gamestop does it? probably. Destructoid "CEO" probably does it as well and he doesn't want to have his company associated with someone who talks like that to those people ... Rubin made a slip up in the press and was lambasted by a journalist concerning said slip up. Perez just attacked a person for no reason whatsoever. One a personal giving a professional (if angry) response to a situation and the other is a person having a childish outburst. One is with the scope of a person's job and the other is not. It's really that simple. I personally have no interest whatsoever in Day's work but I see the situation for it is.

Any time you are representing your workplace, you need to act in a manner that reflects positively (or at least reflects in a way that your boss would approve of). In the case of guys like this that make a living on the internet, pretty much everything you do reflects on your employer.

Truth be told, though, that's just life. You can't go through life acting like an asshole and not expect backlash. Sooner or later, you'll run your mouth enough that you'll find yourself sitting across from an interviewer that remembers you for something stupid you said or did. It's a really small world and kharma is a serious bitch.

Hmm well you can say "I told you so" @Animasta. Now I kind of don't believe him though honestly. The way the original post was phrased definitely didn't sound like a personal message. Maybe it was exactly what it seemed like and he just made up that whole @ thing to cover his ass afterwards.

This whole thing is kind of lame. Destructoid was right to let him go, Ryan was nice enough to suggest it even, Felicia never seemed that offended and graciously accepted his apology, and now some guys out of a job for being a minor idiot while he was drunk (as everyone is.) What a shitty situation.
