I don't know who this guy is and he shouldn't have posted shit like that up. Unless he is trying to get fired from Destructoid.
What has Felicia Day into the gaming world, except for one voice acting appearance in a DA2 DLC?
The only journalist I like on Destructoid is Jim Sterling. I don't give a shit what anyone says.
You clearly have no idea what a journalist is.
Last I checked, Jim Sterling reports on stuff that goes on in the gaming world and he reviews games. If that isn't considered a journalist, then neither is Jeff Gerstmann.
I'm pretty sure that it's come up in conversation before on the podcast and that they weren't really comfortable with being called it. I'd say the only person doing journalism on the team is Patrick, the rest might count themselves as press and critics.
Just read through his whole twitter for the past few days- doesn't really seem like a dude I'd be interested in following... I guess if you're a public face of a popular website, you probably should be a complete asshole publicly and expect no repercussions.

Ok. I see. In that case, the only critic I like on Destructoid is Jim Sterling.
Destructoid is pretty cool... well the only thing I follow about them is the DTOID Show, but yeah that guy is a dick for attacking her like that when people say "do you matter at all?" as if they are above someone else there isn't any room for "that wasn't what he wanted to say" he's just a dick.
It's kinda crazy how this story has been completely blown out of proportion. A couple of stupid twitter comments from a low level contributor at a website have equated to, a bunch of crazy people analysing equality and a MASSIVE witch hunt against people who see the comments for what they were, crazy babblings. People like Veronica Belmont and Wil Wheaton have had too much crazy juice and constude that he is talking about equality when it would appear that he just doesn't like Felicia Day. Just because I do not like Margaret Thatcher doesn't mean I am sexist and if I put in my twitter or facebook that she is one of the worst pm's doesn't mean that I am saying that men are better than women, she is just shit. HATERS GONA HATE!
Edit: Also he was drunk and I think everyone who has ever been drunk in the history of mankind can say that they can sometimes be absolute idiots while hitting the sauce.
So.. Destructoid has a writer that makes an ass of himself. For some reason that doesn't surprise me. At all.
I have no idea who Perez is though. I know who Felicia Day is, who Will Wheaton is, Who Whitta is, and no idea who Veronica Belmont is (I'm guessing that she's sadly not the next Dracula killer though...)
AWWWW you missed a great joke there. "Destructoid has a writer that makes an ass of himself......But which one!?." .......I think that follows the formula of that joke.
Yeah he tweets 3 times trying to get Felicia's attention. Once with no @ to just talking...then thinks to himself or unsatisfied she isnt one of THOSE people that have a search out. Decides to go direct and poker her with an @ to get her attention....she dosnt respond...so he DOES IT AGAIN! just repeating himself.
This is some bad behavior writer or not. Just sad.
I've never even been to Destructoid but it isn't the first time I've read a writer's comments and thought: "Wow, what a jaded, entitled pig." Anyone white knighting her on twitter thinking it's somehow going to matter at all in the long run is fucking retarded. I don't even understand the logic behind that. What's she gonna do, DM you pictures of her tits with a THANKS <3 note between her cleavage?
But none of this is important. The one thing I really want to say to you, is that you should really stop milking that victim complex. If I was routinely called a "racist, sexist hatemonger" by the community, I would probably evaluate my position and consider their point of view. I would not bury my heels and assume it's everyone else with a problem. It really is sort of immature.
(By the way, this is coming from someone who finds himself increasingly annoyed by this community and their creepy hero worship)
I know who she is first off, and I know what The Guild is. The Guild is nothing more than The Big Bang Theory if all they did was talk about WOW. All The Guild has done is commercialize and propagate the stereotypes that all gamers act the same way as the Youtube series portrayed us.
So you are saying since there is a majority opinion on something then that makes it right? I should changed my point of view to meet what a community thinks is okay? So going along your train of thought here, what the Nazis did during World War 2 was a-okay because "the majority rule" as you see it was in effect. What the Ku Klux Klan did in the south during segregation was a-okay because "that was the majority rule" in the south at the time. It was okay during World War 2 to put Japanese people into interment camps because "the majority rule" was in effect in the United States at the time.
None of those things mentioned was okay and should have never been okay because "the majority" said they where okay.
You know it sounds cliche but J. Michael Straczynski was right “Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say.Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world -- "No, YOU move.”
So guess what....maybe you should rethink YOUR opinion.
We live in a geek culture where for some reason its "wrong" to make fun of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1-bLmjLHlQ because "she put a lot of hard work into it"
But its okay to make fun of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=189QSTKC5no because even though these guys put hard work into it they're not popular and don't have a high rated Youtube show and haven't voice acted in all of four games.

This may be hard for you to believe but people are actually fans of her's and want to defend because you know...they're human beings who don't want to see people be insulted who they respect and like. Not everything has to have some sort of sexual goal behind it because she's a lady.
oh hey look Adam Baldwin has just called both Destructoid and Wil Wheaton out on their bullshit. Apparently Jim Sterling STILL has his job after giving out someone private information over twitter and doing this, warning you white knights are about to read exchanges of someone that is actually sexist and misogynistic, so if you are easily offended by people being dicks over the internet I suggest you go outside instead. http://www.auntiepixelante.com/?p=912
Sterling didn't change his twitter bio until half way into this incident, so if its implied again that his comments before didn't reflect those of Destructoid then it can be implied Perez's comments didn't either. However, if you white knights argue that Perez's entire outburst wasn't guarded because he didn't have that, Sterlings entire outburst then is admissible as his comments are associated with Destructoid and Sterling should be fired just as Perez was.
People are stupid, if Jeff posts something on his twitter "I hate waffles" for example does that mean since he works for CBS that CBS has a strict "fuck waffles" policy? No it means the man doesn't like waffles.
I'm genuinely surprised that Felicia Day is often apparently labelled in the public eye for being a 'hot gamer chick'. I really don't think she's all that attractive. But I do still like her for her work in Buffy and The Guild, though.
Neither do I, and the fact of the matter is she isn't. But she certainly thinks very highly of her own looks, which is why I hate her.
It's well known that when you're a writer or reporter for any kind of outlet, written or television, what you say and do in a public forum can get you fired. We had those talks all the time when I was in college pursuing my journalism degree. If you've got a public twitter and link directly to the website you work for, you probably shouldn't shit talk someone in the industry who didn't even engage in a conversation with you. This isn't even a free speech or white knight thing, it's common fucking sense.

Remember when I said that other guy is the worst? I was wrong. You're the fucking worst.
I'm not a huge fan of Felicia Day's work. To be honest, I'm not familiar with a lot of it. But show me one instance where she thinks of highly of her own looks. And then tell me how her looks have anything at all to do with this.
This is the kind of sexism horseshit that pisses me off and that a lot of people here refuse to believe exists in the game industry. No one can have a discussion about a women in the games industry without bringing her looks into the discussion or going on about how she's "not even that hot." And people wonder why women want no part of this bussiness.
Before the "white knight" comments come, no, fuck you. I'm just not a disgusting piece of garbage who is holding this industry back from ever evolving beyond a bunch of pastry women hating fucking nerds.
It's sad that the internet has come to see defending someone or responding to douchebaggery on someone else's behalf as a negative thing. Anyone who uses the phrase "White Knight" is an asshole.

A public thank you at the very least, and possibly a phone number if you defend her really, really hard.
Edit: That's not say I agree with you. Do you really think the majority of Day's defenders are expecting something out of it, either from Day or herself or from some pink-haired gamer girl cutie in harlequin glasses who'll see their tweet and PM them for a date? I don't see how defending someone whose work you enjoy is a bad thing.
Also people apparently don't know how things works in that kind of enviroment , you don't talk smack about someone who's "bigger" than you specially in the entertaiment industry wich lives by public faces and PR , this isn't any different if that guy would've say that in a youtube video or at the company meeting , the fact that he said it on twitter doesn't mean should be taken less seriously period, if you're a small fish going up agaisnt a big one you're in for a world of hurt even more if you're letting everyone know about it (that's why you shut the fuck up and don't just talk crap about anyone and save some stuff for yourself because no one cares about your opinion about others you don't work for people's critic magazine) , this has nothing to do with her being a woman, he said something stupid his boss heard about it, his boss knows the person he talked about is renown so he got fired, simple.

Yeah but why do people feel the need to rush in to help someone they don't know, and who is entirely capable of holding their own? It's patronizing as hell. At the end of the day, it's just words over the internet, those tend to hurt nobody but the poor idiots who write them. I'm sure reading Ryan's comments didn't make Felicia feel like some kind of damsel in distress who can't react like a normal adult and needs total strangers to come up with come-backs for her.
I mean shit- she's a writer, she can sass back if she wants to.
This whole story has no business blowing up at all. It's just become another stupid way for people to latch onto the hot game-issue du jour of misogyny.

As idiotic as Perez's comments were stated, it doesn't mean that he nor anyone else does not have the right to criticize Felicia Day. If one legitimately doesn't like her work, then they have the right to express that without being crucified by internet mobs.
@MikkaQ: So if you were in her position and your fans responded harshly to someone talking shit about you, you would be offended? How is it offensive to have people be like "Hey, don't talk shit about this person we like!"? That seems backwards to me.
I've never even been to Destructoid but it isn't the first time I've read a writer's comments and thought: "Wow, what a jaded, entitled pig." so people can't support her? if she really didn't want people to defend her she could have just brought this up privately with the destructoid heads or something.
@Hailinel: It's about how he said it. If he had said "You know, I don't understand all the love for Felicia Day" it probably would have been fine. Some people would have likely gotten over upset, because that's what people do, but I bet this thread wouldn't even exist. Instead, he chose to go the route of basically saying "The only reason Felicia Day is relevant is because she's a woman. It's not like she does anything actually worth anyone's time."
@AngelN7: You realize how often Ryan and Jeff talk shit about people who are actually industry people? We're less than a month from Ryan getting pissed off and blasting Jason Rubin on twitter. You can shit-talk a CEO to his face, but to bitch about an actress getting more attention than you believe she deserves is somehow a grave offense? I wonder if people would leap to the defense if this writer had said "Fucking Zachary Levy contributes nothing to gaming, he's just this week's Vin Diesel". What's the difference? They're not developers, they're actors. They both did voices for New Vegas and they both hosted the VGAs.
Actually, I remember the Bombcasters mention Zachary Levy being something of an entitled douche when he cut line to see WiiU last year, on account of being a celebrity.

Oh of course you can totally criticize her if you want ,I can do that (not that I want) because no one would care that's the difference , hell he could've/can do that too you just don't do it in an enviroment where people hear it/see it , If I am the guy who brings the lunches for the actors in a movie set I wouldn't talk crap about Christian Bale where someone may hear it because I don't know how that person is going to react to what I say , also while is totally ok and you're free to do it , is advisable for you to keep quiet because people don't like when you talk smack about others they care more.

If you literally can't see hte difference between a few offhand comments and a personal attack... he was saying this stuff TO her. What, exactly, did ryan say? that Rubin was an idiot for his comments? He was responding to a article that worried him. this was literally unprovoked and uncalled for.

But that's the thing , who's Ryan's and Jeff's boss? do they have business relationships with these e-celebrities? probably not, would they care if someone at Gamestop does it? probably. Destructoid "CEO" probably does it as well and he doesn't want to have his company associated with someone who talks like that to those people ... "hey but Jim Sterling is also a dick" , well Jim Sterling is a bigger dick that's the other difference recognition as I said before if you're a small fish you don't go and trouble the bigger ones it could lead to either good or bad stuff , this has nothing to do with the e-celebrity nor her gender... influence people you better have some if you want to throw yourself out there as being more important than someone else, that's how the entertaiment industry works ( or for what being a writter in a gaming website entitles in this case).

To be fair he stated that he didn't know that @ing someone meant that it would show in their feed or whatever because his twitter account was very new. So it's like he was trying to make an offhanded comment and didn't realize Felicia was actually right behind him. I kind of believe him too, because admitting that basically makes him look like an idiot.

Rubin made a slip up in the press and was lambasted by a journalist concerning said slip up. Perez just attacked a person for no reason whatsoever. One a personal giving a professional (if angry) response to a situation and the other is a person having a childish outburst. One is with the scope of a person's job and the other is not. It's really that simple. I personally have no interest whatsoever in Day's work but I see the situation for it is.

No I don't think so. I mean I'm willing to believe that he's an idiot, but that would take an imbecile, and that's two levels lower.
@WinterSnowblind: @BionicRadd: Ok I agree with you both on that his comments represent Destructoid and that they have the right to fire him. You guys are right, the only thing that bothers me though is that in that case, if you are part of an organization like that, you can´t express your own opinion. His comments aren´t THAT bad. He is just saying he doesn´t understand the appeal of Felicia Day. She is a horrible actress and a shame for any video game fan out there.
What? I mean I get not liking her as an actress, but how does she affect you to the point that she's a "shame for any video game fan out there"? As I stated, earlier, she isn't even really a part of the video game industry, which is the main reason why his booth babe statement is both insulting and asinine. She did voice work in, what, one game? She's an actress that's into geek culture. Anyone is free to not like her, but she damn sure hasn't done anything to justify the bile he spewed in those three twitter posts.
As for not being able to express you opinion, you are totally free to. Make a secret twitter account that isn't directly tied to you and express anything you want. This isn't an isolated idea. If you work at McDonald's and constantly make fun of your customers or belittle them, you're gonna get canned, because you are doing things that are damaging to your employers business. Any time you are representing your workplace, you need to act in a manner that reflects positively (or at least reflects in a way that your boss would approve of). In the case of guys like this that make a living on the internet, pretty much everything you do reflects on your employer.
Truth be told, though, that's just life. You can't go through life acting like an asshole and not expect backlash. Sooner or later, you'll run your mouth enough that you'll find yourself sitting across from an interviewer that remembers you for something stupid you said or did. It's a really small world and kharma is a serious bitch.
It's sad that the internet has come to see defending someone or responding to douchebaggery on someone else's behalf as a negative thing. Anyone who uses the phrase "White Knight" is an asshole.
Anyone who feels that they need to protect their semi-famous e-celebrity princess on Twitter because a drunk idiot criticized her is an asshole.
he has a point who is felicia day shes a crap actress when she first appeared on eureka I'm like oh god that decent looking ""gamer girl"" got another gig why oh why does she have to ruin eureka?
hell when Will Wheaton showed up It was just double the shame, Felicia day legitimately got her fame because shes a decent looking chick that is into games she really is a glorified booth babe.
To be fair he stated that he didn't know that @ing someone meant that it would show in their feed or whatever because his twitter account was very new. Hmm well you can say "I told you so" @Animasta. Now I kind of don't believe him though honestly. The way the original post was phrased definitely didn't sound like a personal message. Maybe it was exactly what it seemed like and he just made up that whole @ thing to cover his ass afterwards.
This whole thing is kind of lame. Destructoid was right to let him go, Ryan was nice enough to suggest it even, Felicia never seemed that offended and graciously accepted his apology, and now some guys out of a job for being a minor idiot while he was drunk (as everyone is.) What a shitty situation.
