I do a lot of travel to the US and the Canadian roaming packages aren't very good, some months my cell bill can be over $500 with 500-1000 minutes used.
I'm thinking about just converting my device to pure data and setting up a permanent Skype number $5 a month plus $3 for unlimited use. the money I save from dropping the calling plan should cover the extra data I use and what Skype charges for unlimited use.
I should just be able to get a prepaid data sim to cover the use in the US and not have to worry about juggling multiple phone numbers.
The main issue is, how full of shit is Skype on their data usage estimates? They say it's 1mb per 1 minute of call time, so 1000 minutes = 1GB, if that's true, I can really see any reason why everyone isn't already doing this.
Am I missing anything? Anyone have any experience doing something like this?
