I guess no one bothered to read my post...I'll reiterate:  April Fools Day has almost nothing to do with this one insignificant version of this old virus.  If you aren't updating Windows, chances are you already have Conficker and many other malwares anyway.  It's good to call attention to the fact that there is bad stuff on the net, but don't be so naive to think that there is only one piece of malware out there and that you're only vulnerable on one day of the year.

How much money do you think the author will make from this worm?  If he tries to sell phony software or something that is.

Who knows ?!! We know nothing about the author/s . They may be an organization or something but their HQ is located around eastern Europe .
Gotta be acquaintances with Niko Bellic

But I think it'd be funny if Macs did get this virus, however I don't buy it.

Don't you all realize that this is obviously a huge conspiracy perpetuated by anti-virus companies and Microsoft to sell more software?  At least, I hope it is...

That's why I love Mac. And I only use my Windows computer for Steam and iTunes, so...not many problems there. This will suck if it is a horrible bug that ruins MANY people's computers, so, i will be extra careful when needed.

As long as you're not an idiot, clicking every link you see without thinking, then you should be fine.

Problem is most people are like that  ^^^  :/

Can't the worm just install a root kit and change the registry?  Read that some mal-ware goes deeper then what a format will delete.  Just saying.  Sure you know a ton more about that then I do.

This thing looks real enough.  Trying to fix my PC atm.  The damn task bar and start menu disappeared out of the blue a few days ago.

PS3 porn FTW!

Yeah , My PC was infected as well  so I had to reinstall the windows which took almost 5 hours and I also spent some quality time deleting registry /unnecessary files and stuff in order to prevent any further infection .

I'm sorry to hear that. My sympathies are with you, it's so sad that people have to live with conditions like this.

Anyways, I knew this wouldn't be the apocalypse it was made out to be.

The registry is part of Windows, and most malware is written to run in Windows...even a quick format of a disk and a subsequent reinstall of Windows will get rid of every piece malicious software in existence that I know of.  Data can be recovered from quick-formatted discs, but I don't know of a single piece of software that can survive a format and reinstallation of the OS.
