This may not bother most of you and heck, I don't even know if you guys are aware of this, but the new generation of university students who've just gotten out of high school use the term "rents"....guess what that means, just fucking guess! PARENTS! WHY WOULD YOU TAKE AWAY TWO LETTERS FROM A WORD TO MAKE A STUPID SOUNDING WORD THAT YOU THEN USE SERIOUSLY AND SINCERELY IN A CONVERSATION? Not to mention that it sounds like you're trying to say that you have multiple rents, like the type you pay.
Are you ****ing serious? This is an actual thing?

I am part of that generation, and I have never heard this before.
Yeah what the fuck is rents?
I'm actually lost. What are the parents doing?

it can flow better in conversation
consider the following two sentences:
"I have to go shopping with the 'rents"
"I have to go shopping with my parents"
it's both less effort to say and it flows better, so...
No to both. If it takes 'effort' to say parents over rents, stop talking before you kill yourself.

@Doctorchimp: They're being distastefully called rents.
It's just parents with the pa taken off...it's a slang term that hardly needs this kind of vitriol direct at it. Note I'm not from that generation, I'm 28, last slang we had was "parental units". Of course I once had a similar hate-filled post sent my way for using that term in a joking way. Seems people get way too upset about little quirks of language.
I wanted to, but there were a couple of guys and they were up to no good.@H2Oyea said:

Go back to West Philadelphia, you trash.U siri?
Did you spend most of your days on the playground? Chillin' out, maxin?
Also, to lighten up the mood, here's the Batman catching predators.
Cooee cobber, that slang is bloody blooming funny buggers to me, or I'm a bird's eye with dead horse.
Struth.
I'm not usually one to get mad at colloquialisms and slang, but fuck. Every time someone says "jelly" in conversation I die a little. I bet they think that shit is from fucking "le reddit lmao xD", too. Fuck it all.You are so jelly of our slang

when the hell did it get ok to call parents rents? Is 21 really at the age of being to old to understand this crap?
This it what it took to piss you off? really? That's so sad and pathetic, even more sad than people actually saying 'rents

Ok, someone needs to give me a fucking book that translate Voodoo to English (Or Danish og Japanese, I don't care) because I feel like I'm missing out when people start speaking in tongues

Allow me, old chap. Ahem.
That is entirely neat and with the times, brother, but I have to go acquire some frozen yogurt with my chums!

Fantastic, thanks. People talking like that seem super cool. Frozen yogurt, that's so "gangsta".. I think.
Now what happened to the Danish and Japanese version? :P

Bro is short for brother.
Sis is short for sister.
Ma is short for matriarch/mama/mother.
Pa is short for patriarch/papa/father.
So obviously they can't use "pa" to refer to parents since that's already taken.
Pretty sure 'Folks" was been the short hand for Parents for a long ass time.

I was trying to be a smartass. But I will argue that "folks" doesn't have to be the only term.
