Just heard it on IMDB, maybe it's old news to you guys, but no production start date was said, and the story is still being written by Nolan. I thought for awhile that they really were done with the franchise, but lately it has seemed like a forgone conclusion.
your opinions!
Batman 3 to be released july 2012
" @TheMasterDS: Who? "The last Doctor Who. I don't think he would be good, I can't imagine him being scary enough. I reckon Johnny Depp will end up playing him, although I would really like to see Brad Pitt play him (think of that scene in Fight Club where the bar owner comes down and tries to make them leave his basement, and Tyler loses his shit).
" @TheMasterDS said:It's really funny, because honest to God, I watched it opening day and walked out and said that I think the only villain that can top Ledgers Joker is maybe a Riddler played by Johnny Depp. It's wierd now that I hear that rumor because I feel like I started it. No one would believe me though if I said I did." Hope David Tennant is the Riddler. "I thought the rumor was Johnny Depp was the Riddler. "
I think that judging from the casting of the Joker, Tennant would be the more likely choice. Like Heath Ledger, his big role was well received, but then didn't quite have massive appeal for one reason or another (In the US anyway). Nolan seems to respect acting chops over big names, which I think bodes well for Tennant.
I'm not sure why everyone feels they have to shoot down Johnny Depp as The Riddler. I don't know if there was ever a more custom-built role than that. As long as he puts effort into the role instead of just sleepwalking (Caribbean 2 and 3) that version of Edward Nigma would be epic.
God I hope they don't have the Riddler, A) because he's too similar to the Joker, and B) It'd just be Die Hard With A Vengeance. I mean, there are so many different villains they could do. Personally I'm voting for Brendan Gleeson as the Penguin, but not really expecting it to happen.
It would be such ownage if batman has to solve puzzles before the riddler blows up gotham. They better have that character in it.
I have a feeling Batman 3 was supposed to involve the Joker, and then Heath Ledger died. I hope Nolan can figure out a way to make Batman 3 as bad-ass and awesome as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were.

I completely agree.
The last season of Doctor Who with David Tennant was the best season anyways lol =)
If Superhero sequels have taught us anything it is more then 2 super villains equals crap. Oh and don't give me crap about Scarecrow being in The Dark Knight for a couple of minutes.
Personally I think Hush and/or a non campy Edward Nigma that is obsessed with finding out Batman's secret identity would be preferable.

"Saying The Riddler wouldn't work because we've already had Joker is like saying Iron Man wouldn't work because Batman Begins has already been out.
@bartok: TDK handled two villains the correct way. I like the idea of Hush in a movie but I doubt it will happen.
If we're pipe dreaming here, I'd still like to see Russel Crowe as Hush. He has a lot of good chemistry with Bale. Don't take my word for it, watch 3:10 to Yuma. Best western since unforgiven.
Why did anyone think this wouldn't happen with the amount of cash the last movie made. I don't really think Depp would be good but then I'm not a huge fan of his or the Riddler for that matter but since the trend so far has been to have two villains per film I imagine that the Riddler will be one of them.

"IMDB is basically the worst place on the internet for accurate movie news.
I personally hope they choose one bad guy, stick with him and not mess around with pathetic plot lines like they did in the last movie. oh and actually make Batman a detective..like he's actually supposed to be.
I know I'm pretty much alone when i say that The Dark Knight was a massively wasted opportunity and the script was horrendous.
I'm still hoping he might include Catwoman/Selina Kyle and erase the memory of that horrid Halle Berry movie forever. The series will need a new girl now that Katie Holms/MaggieGyllenhaal's character is dead. I say let it be someone who can take care of herself and provides a nice conflict between emotions and duty to The Batman. Another good choice would be Talia, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul. Depending on which DC reality is currently considered "canon", she is also the mother of Bruce Wayne's child.
Keira Knightley would be my choice for Selina Kyle and Emily Blunt for Talia.
It's going to be very hard to follow The Dark Knight. It's also going to be brutal on whoever is playing the next villain. There are very few actors who can be able to withstand such a burden, one of whom is Johnny Depp.

"The Joker and Twoface were in The Dark Knight, and that is regarded by a large group of people as the best superhero movie ever.
" @SSValis said:Isn't that more a joker thing than the riddler? The riddler is all about outsmarting batman rather than just being batshit insane" @TheMasterDS: Who? "The last Doctor Who. No, it's like saying the Incredible Hulk wouldn't work because we already had Iron Man. Which is exactly what happened. And I'm not saying a Riddler vs Batman movie wouldn't be ok, but I just get the feeling that if they did decide to use him, it wouldn't work as well as the Joker did. Cheesy riddles don't fit in with the Gotham Nolan has set up. I mean, if they had the Riddler working with someone else, that... that would actually be really cool. yeah. I guess my problem is that I don't think the Riddler could hold up an entire movie on his own the way the Joker did. But if like, he does the riddles to distract the police while the Penguin does something else, that would totally work in Nolan's Gotham. Ok. I'm on board with this now. See, compromise solves everything!" @MarkWahlberg said:
