So my friend wants me to introduce them to the best "American" snacks, the unhealthier the better. I know that the ever so popular oreos in nacho cheese will be on the menu. What other great, unhealthy snacks should I bring? (Note: it doesn't have to be a heart attack waiting to happy like nacho oreos...)
Best American Snacks
Butterfingers are great and will get stuck like an epoxy in your teeth before it rots right through them.
Nutty Bars are excellent. I like to peel the wafers off one at a time when I eat them.
Little Debbie's Fudge Brownies will never leave your colon.
And these are great, too! DON'T ACTUALLY BUY THESE, READ THE AMAZON REVIEWS
Where is your friend from? American candy is terrible (taste wise compared to UK/EU) so i would not recommend any of that.
Zebra Cakes are good, so are moon pies.
They only have Goldfish Crackers in the US, right? Cause those things are crack to me.
While we're talking about cheesy crackers, let's not forget about Cheez-Its!

Cheez-its are so much better than goldfish crackers to just snack on. But goldfish crackers on a nice garden fresh salad is amazing. Or in a nice hot bowl of soup.
@zombie2011: She's from Vietnam.

American chocolate is real waxy. I'm in no way a fan. However, if you've never had American chocolate, the texture and taste might be novel?
Moon pies are quite good...
Speaking of crappy American chocolate, when I get a craving for a Hostess cupcake, it's the best thing in the world. Granted, I haven't had one since the company went bankrupt, laid everyone off, and then came back, so they could be utter crap now.
@nightriff: basicly yes. German immigrants brought something that eventually became what its known as now.
Sorrow and broken dreams injected right into your veins.
But if you can't get that, Reese's Cups are the shit. There's also all of the molded sugar bombs (star bursts, skittles, anything gummy), but I don't come away from those happy with myself. But two Reese's Cups is like a mouthful of miracles. Mini-Reeses are also the bomb, but you have to freeze them first. I don't know why, but they are so much better cold and frozen.
You could go with the snack that killed Elvis, and I will make them from time to time, A peanut butter and fried banana sandwich. I will some times jazz them up and add chocolate chips or a Hershey bar on the inside and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Classic American snacks would be:
- Peanut butter related - Reeses Cups, Peanut Butter Snickers etc
- Oreos
- Twinkies - anything by Hostess really: Fruit Pies, Sno Balls, Hohos, CupCakes
- Jelly Beans
- Twizzlers
- Cheese Its
- Peanut Chews
- Famous Amos cookies
- Funyuns
- Nerds
- Butterfinger
- Raisinets
- Snyders Pretzel Pieces
- Combos
Used to eat Takis like crazy in high school until some health conscious person revealed to me how bad they were for you. I wouldn't say they're the best, but they're kinda unique. Rolled corn chips that taste hot and slightly limey.
Pop-Rocks are American I think? Those are pretty fun.
Also how are girl scout cookies not mentioned already?
Skittles and Starburst? Are those internationally acclaimed?
I'm from the UK (not sure if the OP is too) but we definitely have Skittles and Starburst here. Although, I think you have different Starburst flavours to us?
Side note: Starburst are British and originally called Opal Fruits (the name remained in the UK till 1998).
@humanity: This person gets it. Those are all hard to get in Europe, except Oreos.
I'm also going to second Rice Krispy Treats. Those are my 3rd go-to American dessert to make after cheesecake and butterscotch pudding. Always surprises people.
Skittles and Starburst? Are those internationally acclaimed?
They're both also English, not American, lol.

Well, thanks England.
I'm a Combos kinda guy.
They HAVE to be pretzel, and pizza flavored though.
This, Pizza Combos are fantastic.
I'd also suggest some Butter Toffee Crunch & Munch and some Strawberry Lemonade Filled Twizzlers.
Then, of course, there are Hot Pork Rinds.
I tend to buy and consume Old Wisconsin Turkey sticks a lot. I am still unsure, but I think they are healthier than just any old beef stick just based on the nutrition information, but I don't know about that. I really like them, but milage may vary.
Edit: Oh, and I should add I really like Pepperoni sticks too. It seems like you get less so it's more expensive, and I'm pretty sure they're super bad for your heart, but they are addictive. Of course, pepperoni is not technically "American" so this is really only an honorable mention.
If you can get your hands on them, Take 5 bars could potentially be a choice. I very rarely see them in a store (in the midwest, don't know about elsewhere), so get ready to order them if necessary.
